Tax question

Recommended Posts

So I'm getting my taxes done yesterday and was informed my my tax girl (36c) that my CA state refund from last year (approx $1000.00) now has to be added as income.

I'm like

It's not like it makes much of a difference, if any, but it's the whole principle behind it. :bench:

Are all the other states like this, or only CA?

It's a federal thing, you declare it on your federal taxes. This is because the prior year, you told the feds that you paid $1K more in state taxes than you actually did.

Have you never gotten a refund, or have you been cheating all of these years and plan to accept a cabinet position from Obama?

It's not a state issue. Its your federal tax return, so yes everyone has to do it.

Must be nice to get a refund

I wonder how CA's IOU's are going to be handled on the 2009 tax forms?

Guess we can't claim money that we never actually receive, eh?

Virginia does that as well...

Huh...Usually Cali is the first to try this type of bullsh1t.

Also, they are holding our state refunds from us for a min. of 30 days this year.

Wha?! I must have missed this. So if you got a refund last year, they said "sorry we don't have the money?"

OK...I get it....sort of

It's still double taxation, right?

I just round up all my tax stuff and give it to my girl..Ever since I bought a house, I have never focked with my own taxes.

Also, I average about $3500.00 - $5,000.00 in returns each year.

No, this year, the state has run out of money and could possibly issue IOU's for any tax refunds. As Sux mentioned in his previous post, they are currently holding the refunds for a min. of 30 days at this point.

No. In 07 you got a W2 from your employer saying you paid, say, $5K in state taxes. This was deducted from your federal income. You subsequently (well, 36C chick) did state taxes for 07 which determined you really only owed $4K, so you got $1K back from the state. The fed says "hey you lied last year!@#" and wants it's chunk of the $1K. Make sense?

Interestingly, I had to amend my taxes this year. We got our statement from the state indicating a huge (pre-amendment) number. My wife called the state, they looked it up and said "hey, you are right, we focked up, we'll send you a new one!" WTF? The correct number is in your system, why did you send us the wrong one?

Focking Obama.

Actually I have it set up to where I don't get as much money on each check, but a nice refund at the end of the year.

Financially dumb, I know.

I'm betting SUX pre-orders his beer straight from the distributor.

He calls up around Jan 30 and order the Kerrrrrs Truck to deliver 900 cases of beer.

Then he proceeds to start working on them immediately and will do so every day for the rest of his tired existance.

Dude, if it was a decent beer, I'd probably be able to back you on this one.

I saw Sux's fridge. I don't remember there being anything else in it except Coor's Light.

Did he already have the feline semen chasers in the fridge ready to go, or does he perfer it fresh from the tap?
