Well. I called the "home" of a guy nailed on "to catch a predator"

Recommended Posts

I don't think it's on anymore...but they are showing "hidden footage" on MSNBC. I love the show...watching how people react, lie, etc.

So I see a show tonight about a fella named "Matt Cogburn". He was this self proclaimed lover of Christ....but also a lover of sex with 13 year old girls.

I figure Matt's in jail (he got 4 years mandatory in 2006). I search whitepages for the last name "Cogburn" in Gray, GA.

It comes up with 3 or 4 of them. The pedo. is still listed....but I figure Whitepages just hasn't removed it yet, and the number will be just disconnected.

So...I dial it....(my number was "well" blocked), and a lady answers. I ask "Matt there?"

She says "He's asleep".

I then hung up.

I then notice that all 4 "Cogburns" in Gray, GA have the same number. All one family, apparently. The 13 year old girl lover was still living at home at the time he was busted? Who knows....

But...here's my question. How can this guy be "sleeping"? Shouldn't he be in jail? I suppose his mom? would have a good chance of being correct, as even if he was in jail he'd likely be sleeping.

So...was she lying, or is there a chance he's really not in prison? This guy got 10 years, with 4 mandatory. How the fock could he be out of prison already and "sleeping at home"?

What a bunch of sh#t. So now he can continue his career as a minister?

There's been lots of legal questions about this series. I mean, there are all these occasions where the perps were actually talking to an adult .... and he didn't REALLY send a pic of his cack to a 13 year old ... but to an adult ... and they say, "She SAID she was 13." .... but she wasn't. she was 19.

It's sad, but I think most of them got embarassed .... I think one even killed himself .... but a lot of them got away with it because they hired a decent lawyer that questioned the law ... and there were problems. A lot of them got away with it.

There was also at least 1 case where they continued questioning the suspect after he had requested an attorney ... and they had to throw a bunch of stuff out .... because it was right there on tape, "I want to talk to an attorney before we continue." Botched ... big time.

So what you are saying is that as soon as Chris Hanson walks out you should say, "I want to talk to an attorney" ? Seems to me, that you have thought this out already

BUT....it's the intent. If a guy tries to buy (OR SELL!) a bag of baking power or whatever because they think it is cocaine (or try to pass it as cocaine if they are selling it), they are guilty. At least that's what the cops here said during some public seminar they gave.

It's sad, but I think most of them got embarassed

They should be.

I think one even killed himself

during taping of the show even...while they were at his house knocking on his door. It was a state representative or some government official.

but a lot of them got away with it because they hired a decent lawyer that questioned the law ... and there were problems. A lot of them got away with it.

What is neat about these "hidden footage" segments, is at the end of the show, they show what they were charged with and what kind of penalty they got.

It was interesting to see that one "group" (all the guys nabbed from a particular house during one filming) got around 30 days in jail and like a year or so probation, whereas another group all got around 5 years in prison + 15 years probation.

I would surmise it comes from the laws in a particular state.

Like Chris Hansen said "At times you start to feel sorry for some of these guys....then you read the transcript of the conversation they had and what they intended to do with a 13 year old....and then you quickly stop feeling sorry for them"

He is prolly home asleep because this show was a fake and most of the time, the city officials and cops wanted nothing whatsoever to do with it.

Really? I'd think the cops would love to have the resources to fock with perverts like this. :(

Of course I can't find the damn video now, but I watched some stuff on this a year or two back that had some cops and city officials basically saying this whole thing was joke and very difficult to prosecute.

I don't see why.

A crime has to components, an actus rea, and a mens rea. The Actus Rea is the act. In this case, the act would be sending driving to the house. The mens rea is the mental state, in this case, with the intent to have secks with a minor. They also often set them up even further, having them bring alcohol or condoms with them.

The fact that the girl was not in fact a minor is immaterial. As another poster mentioned, it is illegal to sell oregeno as weed, even if you know it isn't.

These guys committed an illegal act with the necessary mental state. I don't see why they couldn't be prosecuted. And according to the show, many of them were, as some did jail time.

Now if we could just get them to catch GFIAFP...

GFIAFP watches this show so that he can figure out how NOT to get caught...it's kind of like a user's manual for pervertedness in reverse.

For those who do not understand the concept here...if you are an adult (over 18 most states, 17 in some) and you knowingly pursue ANY kind of relations of a sexual nature with someone who has identified themselves as underage, regardless of whether they actually are or not, you have obligation so cease all communications of that nature. Many of those accused plea out, some are convicted, but the concept is the same, as an adult you still maintain the obligation.

My personal favorites are the guys that turn the tables and say they were just there to warn the girl about "predators" out there that could harm them. They'll drive 400 miles, sneak around like a mouse walking thru room full of hungry cats, have condoms and bottle of MD 20/20 in their jacket pocket and damn near take off their pants when the girl leaves the room but suddenly they're there to WARN the girl??? i haven't seen one aired in a while, but i love watching them dudes squirm.

since i have no real idea who GFIAFP is in real life, or what he looks like, could someone please be sure and let us know when he appears as a guest of Chris Hanson? Thanks.

Thats like the defense saying I did not proposition a ######...it was a cop...she never intended on having sex with me so it should not count.

I was just coming here to talk and to make sure she was safe and not harmed by anyone else.

"but in the chat log you mention wanting to stick a 14 inch d1ldo up your ass and have sex with her"

I was just trying to teach her the kind of man to avoid.

I just know several of them got out of the charges. Google it.

So ... what if I'm chatting with some chick .... who clearly looks 35 ... but says she's 15 ... if I meet up with her, is that illegal? Just because she lied about her age? I don't get the law there.
