thesitedoc 5 Posted July 30, 2009 Not that this is deep insight or anything new but I think by drafting both Schaub and Palmer one can guard against injury and unfavorable matchups and easily have a weekly top 4 QB all for a couple of modest mid rounds picks. Each of these guys on their own has the potential to finish top 5 in terms of PPG. Schaub has AJ, Walter, Daniels and Slaton to throw to Palmer and Ocho, Coles and Henry - all very talented. They would have to try hard NOT to succeed. Now if you draft both and they both tear an ACL don't blame me because you weren't smart enough to draft Orlovsky with your last pick. KSB2424 3,148 Posted July 30, 2009 The only problem is that a whole helluv alot of people are saying the same kinda thing. "Wait and get two second/third teir QB's in the 5-8 rounds". Which means they will all be gone by the sixth round and most will reach. Meanwhile Brees/Brady/Manning's fall to the second and third rounds. :gold: In other words while a good stategy in theory, I would just let the draft come to you and make the best value picks. Laurence Maroney's Nuts 2 Posted July 30, 2009 I agree. My strategy is similar... but with a David Garrard insurance policy added in. Based on mocks I've participated as of today (12 team, re-drafts)... QB1: McNabb / Schaub (rd 5 or 6) QB2: C Palmer / M Hasselbeck (Palmer is going ~ rd 8 / Hasselbeck even lower ~ rd 10 ish) QB3: Garrard (who I've seen go in rd 12) I think both Palmer and Hass have the potential to be QB1's. I see bounce back years for both of them, health permitting of course. An even riskier proposition might be to hold off and try to get Palmer / Hasselbeck / Garrard. Then could use rounds 1-6or7 (depending on where you have Palmer slotted) to load up on RBs and WRs.
ed_jones 0 Posted July 30, 2009 I love the Palmer idea but Schaub is going WAY too high. No way would I draft him in Rd 5/6 hoping this is the year he stays healthy. I would much rather have a guy like Palmer in 8 and Hass or Garrard in 10-12. Much better value IMO.
jgcrawfish 232 Posted July 30, 2009 all of you SHUT UP!!! You're driving up the price everytime you talk about it. SSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... I have a handful of QB's I'm targetting in various combos but Rodgers (too high a cost), McNabb, Palmer, Schaub, Garrard, Ryan, and Hasselbeck. Hell, I might even take a flyer on Orton for the right price.

Orton may pay off big if you can land him as your #2 on the cheap.

ed_jones 0 Posted July 30, 2009 Doesn't Palmer's elbow concern anyone else? Not me. After all this time and the fact that they did'nt have to do any major surgeries on it, I have very little worry.Plus, he's going in the Rd 7-9 range, a VERY worthy gamble at that point. I see him being top 5 by years end and will be a large cog in many a title run this year.
PATSSOX 22 Posted July 30, 2009 schaub is going way to high. i think you guys are right. but its too late to sssshhhhh , the people who have been studying fantasy football have realized to wait and grab one of these type QBs late. there are about 12 QBs that i will be fine with. im not greedy ill be happy with 15-20 pts from my QB as long as i nail the rest of my team. if Orton has any skill what so ever he can be a very servicable QB. My sleeper QB is Edwards. he should have a very good running game and has Evans and TO at wr so both can not be double teamed. last year Evans got dbld teamed and produced very little. Orton has skill and if you look at what he did last year on a poor Chicago offensive team he's likely going to be WAY more than serviceable. He has maybe the best pass protecting line in the league (Cutler hardly ever got touched and was the least sacked QB in the league) and now probably gets at least 1 decent/healthy back to help out. Moreno is a 3 down back if he gets the role. I also like Edwards (own him in dynasty) but his success will depend solely on the Bills offensive line, which is shaky at best. nordwave 2 Posted July 30, 2009 Flacco is my sleeper QB. Just look at all the guys he has to throw to: ... ... ... Wait. Nevermind.
We Tigers 71 Posted July 30, 2009 I don't think Schaub is going too high at all based on what we've seen in terms of points per game thus far, and what his offense can do. He's Steven Jackson at the QB position, and I'm happy to take that risk in the 6th or 7th round.
PATSSOX 22 Posted July 30, 2009 if you could get AJ at bottom of first round or beginning of 2nd round and get Schuab in the 6/7 round range now that wouldnt be to high i guess. i love double dippin with QB-WR especially a stud like AJ

Our league gives 6pt tds so qbs go off the board early.....but i really think their are 13 and arguably 14 solid starters that i would be ok with as my starter. So im loading up until about the 8th or 9th qb is off the board.....then targeting a Hass, Palmer or Shaub......i just dont see the dropoff being terribly significant. 9-Route 0 Posted July 30, 2009 this is great for the fantasy owner who: 1] is a 25+% shareholder in Ace bandage company or any another athletic tape company, or 2] is themselves an orthopedic surgeon who can schedule an immediate appointment at the local surgi-center
desertfire 4 Posted July 30, 2009 I am staying completely away from Palmer this year. The elbow is a small concern but another is no Housh and they have a freaking brutal schedule.
Tony_Romo_Domination 0 Posted July 31, 2009 I am employing this strategy in a few leagues. I am getting Romo and Roy Williams. The Romo to Witten connection is also gonna happen for some of my teams.

cooolbreeze 0 Posted July 31, 2009 By the time most drafts roll around, I think both Schaub and Palmer will go much higher than most prognostications on this thread. Once HBO's Hardknock's has a couple episodes...Palmer, 85, and Henry will jump up the charts. Palmer will no longer be a sleeper...he will be a top 5-8QB. Exposure is everything. HeirCoryell 0 Posted July 31, 2009 Take this with a grain of salt because it was a really weak ESPN mock draft but Schaub and Palmer went 6-1 and 8-5 respectively tonight.
edjr 6,584 Posted July 31, 2009 QB's are the key, especually when trading. I usually draft 4 to 6 QB's and none in the 1st 4 or so rounds. I drafted Cutler and Rivers (among others) last year all 5th round or later. Ended up trading Rivers for Portis and losing in the semi finals, it was a great year trading for me, my 1st 2 picks were Marshall/Edwards though. (traded 1st round pick)

nordwave 2 Posted July 31, 2009 I can guarantee you not 1 person in my 14 team league probably has HBO, let alone watches this stupid show. guarantee probably? Doesn't matter if the people in your league watch. Most people get their cheat sheets from magazines or the internet. A player's stock rises and falls with the general consensus of everyone. This doesn't mean you have to agree with the cheat sheets, but chances are good that someone in your league will blindly follow them.
