Round 6 Commentary

Recommended Posts

I liked the value Ward presented. He may split carries in TB, but he put up 1000+ yards and 40 catches sharing carries last year.

6.06 - RB Joseph Addai, IND

a starting back that catches 40+ balls on a strong offensive as my #3. I'll take it!

Greg Olsen - Im not really one to go after one of the top 4 TE's. Had one of them made it to me with this pick I would have selected them, but knew that would never happen. I think Olsen is in for a really big year as Cutler's go to guy. Doesn't matter to me how well Cutler does or the Bears do as a whole, all that matters is he feeds Olsen the ball for PPR.

Well, KSB have not been on for a hour now. Slow progress today. I'll either make my pick late tonight or tomorrow. Cheers guys.

FWP should outplay his ADP. His backup isn't ready per early camp reports to do very much. And Willie was the man for them down the stretch last year when it counted. He looked like the Willie of two years ago. Giving the coaching staff confidence that you can perform in pressure ike he did in the playoffs, will give him the start and lots of carries. Still fairly young, and now healthy.

I drove home from work. Bout a 40 minute commute. But I'm here.

Dude you pick like two picks away and it's 3:15 West Coast Time for you. Why not send a three man list to Mike?

6.04 - WR Jerricho Cotchery, NYJ

Happy to land my #15 WR here in round 6. I have Cotch pencilled in for 80 catches, 1,100 yards and 8 TD's. The solid commitment to running the ball will aid the QB situation. I do see teams stacking 8 in the box and looking for the QB to beat them. I'm hoping, and betting that Cotch often will.

The Cotchery pick should pay nice dividends this year RC. I haven't really considered drafting him thus far in my mocks, but the more I think about it, the more I like what he's capable of. Your experiment is turning out well!

I decided to opt for my WR3 rather than addressing other positions. Berrian lit it up last year when TJack was on the sidelines. Uhm, TJack will be on the sidelines this year, and generally speaking the Vikes QB situation is vastly improved over what they had in '08. I can't see him catching more than 65-70 balls, but I do see 1000 yards and 7-8 scores. I'll take it for my third receiver.

I really like this pick. I very nearly went with him at 6.1, only opting against him because I didn't want to invest that heavily in the Indy offense. Color me weird.

Hey guys, something has come up with the family and I will be without internet access for the next two days. I just emailed Mike FF Today a small cheatsheet of guys at various positions that I'm eyeing the next few rounds as well as a template of what I'm looking to do. Hopefully he will get the email and make the picks for me. I will be back on Sunday.

Have an excellent Friday. :shocking:

Random thoughts

5th round

Like the Bryant, Warner, Moreno picks...particularly Moreno who is great value there as I've seen him go mid-late 4th.

Not sure if he'll be able to do much as think with that def, Den will be playing from behind alot and running game may not be used much in 4th. But kid has talent and again, solid value here.

Thought Rice was a bit of a reach, more of a mid 6th, early 7th guy...I like the kid, but leary of any announcements of a player being starter before preseason starts.

And thank you all for the BARRAGE of comments about Braylon...appreciated. :music_guitarred:

6th round

Santana was solid then after the nice pick of moreno clash comes back with LJ...just think this guy is done. JMO

Addai is nice value there, most other picks decent, though bit of a TE run this round (which I joined in on).

Moore was guy I liked early on, but isn't he hurt?

Thoughts on Benson guys? I know he's a journeyman of sorts, but at this point in draft a guy who should get the workload and be solid as #3 rb, with slight upside should he run with his new team and role.

NAn -

Regarding Edwards: My apologies. I deliberately waited, because I wanted to see other players fall first before commenting.

I believe the kid has a ton of talent, and HUGE upside, if he can overcome being 1) inconsistent, and 2) a Brown. He can't blame the quarterbacking, because that has not been an issue to this point. Derek Anderson got the ball to him consistently, and in 2007, he hung onto a bunch of those balls. What happened in 2008? Did he forget the stickum? The problem is that this habit seems to be more in line with what we know of him. Now, he lacks Winslow, which theoretically helps him in terms of targets, but hurts him in terms of drawing coverage from him, as there is no one else on that team that is going to pose a significant threat to pull coverage away.

I love the upside, but personally, especially with the way I started, I wasn't willing to place the necessary investment to get him. I think Vincent Jackson is just as good of an option, and Antonio Bryant has as much talent as he does. For my own position, I wanted options that are more consistent year-in and year-out.

I mention that he's a Brown, somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but it is a very important part of the whole argument. The Browns are a nightmare, and with Mangini at the reins, I don't see much more semblance of an NFL offense happening this year, either.

So . . . bottom line, I think he's boom or bust. You have to hope he plays to his talent. Here's hoping. :music_guitarred:

Dan summed it up pretty well. The Browns offense hasn't scored a TD in a laughably long time. I won't call Mangini a terrible coach, because he was able to do some good things in NY, but hes not a good coach. He doesn't have the respect of his players and I don't see him infusing much life in the offense.

If Braylon can hold onto the ball, he will be a good investment. If not, he will be a wasted pick in PPR.

NAn, the Braylon pick was alright. It's a boom/bust kind of pick, but for where you got him I think it was worth taking that chance. We've all seen the upside he has (2007) but we've also seen that he's unstartable too (2008) for huge stretches.

As Dan alluded to, he's a Brown....so he's got two strikes against him off the bat. The fact that they don't have a dependable WR2...at least on paper....nor TE....nor a dominant run game.....nor a trustworthy QB...kind of points to one conclusion: this team will struggle to score points......isn't that Mangini's motto?

Braylon is in a contract year, so I think the drops will be less of an issue. He should be more focused.....should. And really, the talent around him isn't too bad, and is something he could overcome considering his talent. BUT, I think QB is the thing that really hampers him this year....obviously. On the one hand, their QB had a solid 6 game stretch but hasn't even remotely resembled that player since. On the other, their QB is unproven and has been shaky in the action he has seen. Whichever QB gets the nod, he's not going to help Braylon's value....just the opposite really.

Still, Cleveland will be behind a lot this year, and Braylon should get a lot of looks. But I wouldn't expect anywhere near the production of 2007.

All in all, not a bad pick by you...but a pick I wouldn't have made out of personal preference.

It was a key grab in my draft, after taking the chance on the #1WR, QB, and TE. I jsut missed out on Pierre, took Smith, then prayed Rice would make it to me. The 45 receptions in this ppr league were the key to my decision. I am much more worried about him staying healthy then him not starting. I love the fact that he and Flacco came in together, and are the building blocks of that offense. Time will tell if I am right or wrong, but he was a necessary piece that fell into place. He does carry a 6.03 ADP, and i considered benson here, but he carries a 7.03 ADP, and I did not know how much he would be used in the passing game.
