The speech never bothered me. I think it's a fine idea for any president to do this. It's the lesson plan that rubs

I thought it was a very good speech. Then again, I've always agreed with him on his general positions on education (other than lack of support for vouchers). He is for charter schools and merit-based pay, which is... quite un-socialist of him. :haidscratch: I wonder why he doesn't apply that same thinking to other things.

 

My favorite part was when he referenced the kid in Cali with brain cancer who is going to college this year. He basically said "dood had half his brain removed and is still going to college, wtf is your problem?!"

What is the point of the article? That partisan politics always existed? That one party will always second-guess the other party? Can we get another editorial on water has most always been wet?

Were they bringing massive pressure on the schools not to show it? Were the disrespecting the president in a way that under the Republican mentality (you're either with us or against us) would be extremely unpatriotic?

 

None of this happened.

 

Is it crazy to ask -- after the fact -- what a president who has gutted education is doing spending $27,000 on a lame as "skool is kool" speech? Is it crazy to ask about the timing about a president who completely ignored domestic affairs (and later lost an election because of it) is using this as an attempt to pretend like he cares about domestic affairs during a heated presidential election campaign?

I think most of the uproar was over the corriculum the Obama admin was gonna send to the schools. I saw somewhere yesterday that this is in violation of federal laws prohibiting the Feds from being involved on that level. I have not looked it up, so I'm not sure. However, the fact the Admin changed the coriculum tells me they knew they were wrong on some points there.

 

Other than that, I have no problem with any POTUS addressing school kids on generic "stay in school" stuff.

 

The Dems launched and investigation into GHWB for his speech, and demanded he pay the $21k out of his pocket for the cost of the speech, so you should get your facts right before making claims such as this.
