KSB2424 3,148 Posted September 21, 2009 The one thing that I kept thinking about the whole game was how much Welker was missed. Against a blitzing team like the Jets his quick slants, 5 yard hooks, and WR screens were imperative for Brady to get the ball out quickly. That really hampered the Patriots IMO. The Jets looked really good, and are built for the post season. Defense / Low Turnovers / Running game.

Dan 66 Posted September 21, 2009 OK OK luck was a bad description. Jets had one very good day the Pats weren't prepared. Luck was a poor choice of words. Denial . . . not just a river in Egypt.
Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted September 21, 2009 I didn't see the game TD, just the highlights (or lowlights as the case may be), but going by the stats the defense didn't play too badly. I was really worried about the run D, but they actually look to have held up okay against Jones and Washington. How did they look? Any positives to take away from yesterday? The defense was fine. The offense was stifled. Brady looks very tentative. Dropped passes and passes that were not close to their intended target. The Jets played very well and clearly deserved to win that game. It is still a long season, but the Patriots really should be 0-2 right now. If that does not give them enough motivation to step it up, then I don't know what will. They have two tough games coming up at home (ATL and BAL). If home-cooking does not work, then they could easily be looking at the playoffs from the outside. I don't know about the running game thing; they were held pretty well in check until garbage/sell out time last week and less then four ypc against that Patriots d that is still a work in progress is nothing to write home about. I really thought they might run wild, especially Washington.
kmbryant09 1 Posted September 21, 2009 Its so funny how whenever the Patriots do something great, or even getting lucky (yes I said it) week 1 against the Bills...all the fans live in the moment, brag about how Brady is back and the Pats can look at another undefeated season yadda yadda yadda. Now when the Patriots get their sh!t handed to them, all the fans are like....let's not overreact guys, it's just week 2 out of 17, I expected a split with the Jets and still do, this doesn't change anything. I hear some Pats fans giving SOME credit to the Jets, but mostly just that their DEF was solid. Someone even claimed that it was simply Wes Welker was out, Brady had one of his worst games of his career, and the Pats had a billion penalties. Well isn't that more of a sign of a mediocre team, than just a stroke of bad luck??? Especially considering they're one fumbled kick return from being 0-2. I really thought they might run wild, especially Washington. We will see, I'm not a Jets fan. However the Jets rushing attack has been pretty solid the past year and two games. Factor in that the QB ooks decent and has yet to make many mistakes (turnovers), plus what looks like a top 5 defense, and you have a team that should do well . It actually reminds me of the Pittsburg team when Big Ben was a rookie.

In the first half the Texans did everything they could to stop the run - and Washington was still doing lreatively well, Jones not so much - daring the rookie QB to beat them. Once he started doing just that the Jets found a little more room to run. It's unfair to call it "garbage time" because the game was still close before Jones broke his first big run. Yeah "garbage time" maybe wasn't the best term there, and I have to admit I'm somewhat regurgitating info I read that Jones particularly looked fairly crappy other than the couple of runs. I do agree that if this team can put together even an adequate running game and keep from asking too much of Sanchez, they could be pretty dangerous.

Once they get comfortable, and I think they are still getting their "rex legs" under them, they may very well emerge as a viable threat at playoff time. BirdBradyBobbyOrr 0 Posted September 21, 2009 From Tom Brady on the Jets dominating our O line and rattling him. "Well, I wouldn't say that. There were no sacks. Anytime you throw 47 times they're going to hurry you from time to time. It's not like you're going to stand back there for 47 attempts untouched,". "I think the offensive line performed well. Those guys really stepped up in the face of tough communication out there and a team that does challenge you with the blitz looks. We didn't make the plays that were there. There were a lot of yards that we left on the field. We had almost 200 yards of offense in the first half. "We controlled the first half. We just didn't get the ball into the end zone when we had the opportunity. At halftime it's 9-3, if we get the ball into the end zone it's a significantly different game. That's a couple of weeks in a row that we're failing to get the ball into the end zone, so that's an issue that we're dealing with and that's something that we've got to correct." I think that is a fair assessment by Tommy Boy. If the Patriots correct their GLARING mistakes than this is a much different game. Lucky for the Pats it's obvious what went wrong and now they can work on fixing the mistakes. They did go against a team that challenges with the blitz and the Patriots failed to make plays against that blitz. History has shown that Brady can adapt to the blitz and Belichick can coach against it. Jets won but the Pats did not play well.

What I find funny is posters who think Pats fans should run out and slit their wrists every time the team loses a game. I think any honest fan has recognized that the Pats have some deficiencies on both sides of the ball and knew this was going to be a tough game going in. The loss is disappointing - as all losses are when you expect your team to be a contender - but it shouldn't be shocking to anyone who has been paying attention to what Ryan has been doing with the Jets. The Jets are officially a good football team now, and I believe Buffalo is a much better football team than in recent years as well. The Pats are going to have to play a lot better to win the division, and they will LOSE MORE GAMES.

You act like they got beat by thirty. They lost a seven point game to a pretty good football team playing at home. Did you happen to see how the Jets dismantled Houston, in Houston's house, last week? The same Houston team that hung 34 on Tennessee yesterday. Should Pittsburg be embarassed by losing to Chicago yesterday? What about Green Bay losing to Cincinnati? Or it it just the Pats who are supposed to be embarassed anytime they lose? BirdBradyBobbyOrr 0 Posted September 21, 2009 It wasn't the trash talk that helped the Jets beat the Pats Sunday. It was the chalk talk. Sure, the Jets talked tons of smack going into their battle vs. New England, and who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned, violent, trash-talking rivalry? But take the trash out of the equation for a minute. The real dirty work was done with some behind-the-scenes intrigue on the part of the Jets and head coach Rex Ryan. This week Ryan used former Patriots QB and Tom Brady understudy Kevin O'Connell to prepare for the Pats. Team sources told FOXSports.com that Ryan took O'Connell and pretty much passed him around from coach to coach this week to give a group-by-group tutorial of New England's tendencies. In fact, he was so helpful that Ryan named O'Connell team captain for today's game. That's right, a No. 3 QB as team captain. And the Jets showed how good they can be with a little captain in 'em. "It was just another shot across their bow," said one team source of why Ryan made the surprising move. Sources said while the former Patriot QB was revealing in helping with tendencies of different players and schemes, he was most helpful in revealing the tendencies the Patriots use to adjust against different blitz packages the Jets will try to employ. Basically, he's able to say, "Hey, when you use this blitz they like to check it over here. When you use that blitz their tendency will be to use this guy, here." ********** Congrats to the Jets but they won't have this distinct advantage next time. mzf5c5 0 Posted September 21, 2009 Here's a wacky idea, maybe not everyone lives on the internet, particularly on Sundays. Props to the Jets. They're playing very good football and were clearly the better team yesterday from what I saw (highlights). The Jets defense is legit. They clearly had Brady rattled and rushing, and kept Moss completely in check. If you do those things you're generally going to beat the Pats, particularly when Welker isn't on the field. Don't take this wrong Parrot, but you guys are usually the first to post about a dominating game not only during but right after and have 50 post in it. So don't play the not everyone lives on the internet. Coming here and saying, I just didn't want to face the music yet, is more respectable. But props for your comments! Many teams lost to the same type of rookie tandems in the Falcons and Ravens last year, should those teams have been embarassed as well? Or is this just a deal where the Pats have set their own bar so high that they're held to a different standard than everybody else? Sanchez looks to be in the Ryan/Flacco mold as far as NFL readiness goes and has acquitted himself very well to this point, and Rex Ryan has been a well-respected defensive coach in the league for years.
