Breaking news on ABC local in Dallas tonight was that Dez Bryant was banned for 90 days from North Parks Mall. haha. If that's not dumb enough, it was for arguing with an off-duty officer after the cop asked him to pull up his sagging pants....

I'm curious to see what happens with the Merriweather situation. Merriweather's lawyer claims that he (Merriweather) was only acting as a peacemaker trying to break up a fight and that he did not fire any shots. His lawyer said that they conducted their own investigation and that he has eye witnesses to back up their findings. Supposedly some other guy with 20 felony convictions was the actual shooter:

http://audio.weei.com/a/38340495/adam-swickle-merriweather-s-lawyer.htm

But then Dino Costa of Sirius Radio cited an "impeccable" (but unnamed) source as saying that Merriweather was the shooter. The really odd thing is that the source also claims that the alleged victims might not be alive anymore. Which is weird because if they were dead you'd think that would've been reported somewhere else. Here's the article:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/17/report-meriweather-was-the-shooter/

Hopefully this doesn't end up like the Marvin Harrison episode where everyone pretty much knows what happened but there is never any official confirmation of that.

#7 Johnny Jolly

HOUSTON -- Troubled Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly has been arrested on another drug charge in Houston.

Houston police spokesman Victor Senties said Jolly was pulled over about 12:45 a.m. Friday. Senties said officers discovered a bottle containing 600 grams of codeine under the passenger's seat and another bottle with an unidentified substance in the driver's side door.

Jolly was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

Senties said the former Houston high school star gave the arresting officers a state identification card instead of a driver's license. After a background check, police discovered Jolly's license had been suspended in 2007 and was ineligible for renewal.

A Packers spokesman said the team would have no comment. Jolly's agent didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

Jolly was suspended by the NFL without pay for all of last season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The ban stemmed from a separate drug arrest.

In July 2008, Jolly was arrested in Houston for possession of at least 200 grams of codeine, a second-degree felony.

Jolly could've faced up to 20 years in prison. But he was given pretrial diversion, a form of probation that would've had the charge against him dismissed if he didn't break the law over the next year. Part of the sentence was 160 hours of community service, which included 10 speaking engagements where he was supposed to talk to children and others about the dangers of drug use.

It was unclear how the latest charge would affect Jolly's probation. A call to attorney Michelle Beck, who was representing Jolly last year, was not immediately returned.

The 6-foot-3, 325-pound Jolly started all 16 games for Green Bay in 2008 and '09. Without him, the Packers won the Super Bowl last season

Eagles LT Jason Peters has been arrested on charges of disturbing the peace in Shreveport, La.

It appears his arrest stemmed from playing "loud music," but details, including when exactly he was arrested, are scarce at the moment. He was booked into Shreveport City Jail, presumably early Saturday morning, and released. More details should be available by Sunday, but from the sound of it, Peters' crime was minor in nature. In the makings...

GARLAND, Texas

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib is a "person of interest" in connection with a violent dispute in which his sister's boyfriend was allegedly attacked and shot at, the Dallas Observer reported Monday.

According to police in the Dallas suburb of Garland, Talib was involved in a fight March 21 with his sister's partner, Shannon Billings.

"The investigation is ongoing," Garland Police Department administration supervisor Captain Patrick McCulley told the Dallas Observer. "But I can confirm that Mr. Talib is a person of interest in the case."

The incident, according to police, stemmed from an argument at Talib's sister Saran's house between her and Billings. Saran Talib reportedly called her brother and mother for help during the alleged altercation.

Neighbors called 911 after hearing gunshots, and when police arrived they found Billings outside a residence in the area.

Billings was arrested in connection with two prior incidents involving Talib's sister. He told officers he had been shot at during the latest bust-up.

Billings also alleged that Talib had tried to "strike him in the face" with a pistol.

Talib, 25, could face a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, in addition to a misdemeanor gun charge, the Observer said.

FALLS FROM GRACENeither Talib, nor his agent Todd France have commented on the incident. NFL teams are prohibited from contacting their players during the lockout.

In the makings...

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81f006ec/article/bucs-talib-expected-to-surrender-on-texas-arrest-warrant

An arrest warrant was issued for Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib on Tuesday in Garland, Texas, as the result of a police investigation into a domestic incident in which shots were fired, according to The Tampa Tribune.

Talib is scheduled to turn himself in later this week on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bail will be set at $25,000, police said.

...

A police statement alleges that Talib physically assaulted and shot at Shannon Billings, who the Tribune reports is the boyfriend of Talib's sister. Talib's mother is also accused of firing shots at Billings, the report states.

#9 is on the wall of shame. I like how his mom was booked also...

Talib's mother, Okolo Talib, also was involved, police said, and turned herself in Tuesday. When she was booked into jail, she also was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, based on a previous conviction, police said. Her bond was set at $30,000, and she remained in jail Tuesday afternoon.

The assault charges against the Talibs are classified as second-degree felonies and carry a punishment of five to 20 years in prison, according to police.

The warrant stems from a March 21 incident in which police were called to investigate a disturbance where people had been fighting and gunshots were heard.

Police say Aqib Talib physically assaulted and shot at Shannon Billings, whom The Tribune reports is the boyfriend of the player's sister. Talib's mother also is accused of firing shots at Billings, who wasn't injured.

NFLer Laurence Maroney Charged for Holding ... Weed

NFL running back Laurence Maroney was charged today for a drug and weapons bust in St. Louis a few months ago -- and he's only going to face a misdemeanor.

Prosecutors tagged Maroney with one count of marijuana possession -- for the arrest back in January when St. Louis PD pulled over a car and busted the former Denver Broncos player and four other people.

Cops originally booked Maroney -- who's now a free agent -- for possession of a firearm, but it was later determined he had a permit to carry the gun.

Maroney faces up to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine.

Raiders' Murphy booked for possessing Viagra, resisting arrest http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81f131ac/article/raiders-murphy-booked-for-possessing-viagra-resisting-arrest

Oakland Raiders wide receiver Louis Murphy was arrested in Gainesville, Fla., early Sunday morning and charged with possession of a drug without a valid prescription, failure to obey a police officer and resisting arrest without violence -- all misdemeanors -- The Gainesville Sun reported.

Murphy, 23, was taken into custody shortly after midnight after a Gainesville police officer tried to pull him over because his Cadillac Escalade's stereo volume was loud, the newspaper reported. Murphy, according to police, drove on to a city parking lot, where he and his passengers exited the SUV and walked away.

Officer Thomas Harrison ordered Murphy and his passengers to stop and said Murphy refused to show identification. When the officer tried to place him in handcuffs, Murphy resisted; police said three officers were required to take him into custody.

A search of Murphy's car turned up a "non-labeled prescription bottle containing 11 individual pills later identified as Viagra," police told the newspaper. Murphy could not provide a prescription for the pills, allegedly telling the officer that he had peeled the label off of the bottle "because he did not want his girlfriend to know he had a prescription for it."

Murphy, who is from St. Petersburg, Fla., and played collegiately at Florida, has started nine games in each of his first two seasons with the Raiders. He caught 41 passes for 609 yards and two touchdowns last season after making 31 receptions for 521 yards and four scores as a rookie.

Former Gator Murphy arrested in Gainesville

By Kimberly Moore Wilmoth

Staff Writer

Published: Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 3:40 p.m.

Last Modified: Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 3:40 p.m.

Gainesville Police arrested former standout Gator wide receiver Louis Morris Murphy Jr. early Sunday morning, charging him with possession of a drug without a valid prescription, failure to obey a police officer and resisting arrest without violence -- all misdemeanors.

Murphy, who plays for the Oakland Raiders, was taken into custody just after midnight.

Gainesville Police Officer Thomas Harrison said he spotted Murphy's Cadillac Escalade at 100 SW First St., with the stereo playing loudly. Harrison said he told Murphy, 23, to pull over, but then Murphy continued driving to a city parking lot, where he and his passengers got out of the SUV and walked away.

Harrison flipped on his lights and ordered Murphy and the passengers to stop. Harrison said Murphy refused to present identification and demanded to know why Harrison stopped him. Harrison said Murphy continued to refuse to show his ID and so Harrison attempted to place him in handcuffs, but, he said, Murphy refused to put his hands behind his back. It took three officers to place the 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound NFL player into custody.

Harrison said Murphy consented to a search of his vehicle, where officers found a “non-labeled prescription bottle containing 11 individual pills later identified as Viagra.” Murphy could not provide a prescription for it and allegedly told the officer that he had peeled the label off of the bottle “because he did not want his girlfriend to know he had a prescription for it.”

This is Murphy's second arrest in Gainesville. The first one came in 2006, when he was taken into custody for possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. In a plea deal, the state attorney's office later declined to prosecute if Murphy completed 12 1/2 hours of community service or paid $125 to “Project Payback,” a juvenile program designed to monitor and enforce restitution to the courts.

According to a Sports Illustrated article, Murphy vowed to turn his life around when his mother was diagnosed with cancer a second time in 2007. She died in on Valentine's Day 2008. He grieved in the butterfly garden at UF's Museum of Natural History when he worked there as an intern for part of his sports event management degree. He was also captain of UF's football team that year, scoring a touchdown from a Tim Tebow pass in the BCS championship game.

Murphy volunteers in his off hours. Last year, he spoke with inmates at the Pinellas County Jail annex in Clearwater, telling them that everyone deserves a second chance.

Murphy's father is a pastor and he has said publicly that his faith shapes his life.

I had no idea Viagra's were illegal? Why would a 23 year old need/want one anyway? Then the dumbass goes on to resist arrest, and disobey the police. Come on man - when are these kids going to learn. Three officers were required to take him into custody

It looks like we can add Mike Vrabel to the list.

You think he was stealing some chips from the Casino at 4:00 in the AM to tide him over during the lockout?

Thanks Mike - Added - here's the story...

(RotoWire) Vrabel was arrested on felony theft charges at Belterra Casino Resort (Florence, Ind.) early Monday morning, NFL.com reports. Analysis: Vrabel apparently had some disagreement or misunderstanding over how many beers he was entitled to, or something to that effect, and took off with more than what the establishment figured he was owed. While the felony technicality of all theft in Indiana will make this a (briefly) juicy headline, it's doubtful anything substantive will come out of this.

Under normal circumstances, sure.

But it's questionable (at best) whether the NFL can punish players for incidents during the lockout.

Just gonna get worse, the longer this lockout goes on. And the owners smile!

Britt is the 10th player arrested since the NFL locked out its players on March 11. The Titans' inability to run an offseason workout program may explain why Britt was back in his hometown.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said that he will enforce any violation of the league's personal conduct policy during the lockout once the work stoppage ends.

The NFL, though, is prohibited from conducting drug testing during the lockout. Britt was not tested for possible drug use at the scene of the arrest, the police spokesman said.

How do you translate this? Sounds like Goodell will punish if it occurs during the lockout - - - but only take action after the lockout???

Then again, I was never to good at reading comprehension

Albert Haynesworth finally charged from his incident in February. Breast fondling

(.) (.)

HIS WHOLE RAP SHEET IS WORTHY...

Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor sexual abuse, accused of fondling a server in a hotel restaurant in Washington.

A grand jury returned an indictment formally charging Haynesworth in the alleged incident at a downtown Washington hotel in the early hours of Feb. 13. If convicted, the 29-year-old two-time All-Pro faces up to six months days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

According to the U.S. attorney's office, the government's evidence shows Haynesworth slid a credit card down the front of the server's dress and fondled her breast.

Telephone and email messages left for Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, were not immediately returned. At the time the server's accusations became public, Speck said "there seems to be no truth to these allegations."

Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie said the team referred all calls to Haynesworth and his agent.

Haynesworth also faces charges in Virginia, accused of punching a man during a road-rage assault. His trial is scheduled for May.

At one point last summer, he was also involved in lawsuits from a bank, an exotic dancer, a man injured in an automobile accident and complaints from his ex-wife that he wasn't paying for her health insurance or their children's bills.

Haynesworth has also dealt with his share of on-the-field problems over the past year. He had a tumultuous 2010 season with the Redskins that ended when he was suspended without pay for the final four games of the season for ''conduct detrimental to the club.''

Haynesworth had constantly feuded with coach Mike Shanahan, skipped offseason workouts and failed to pass a conditioning test at the start of training camp. He did not start a game last season, despite being in the second year of a seven-year, $100 million contract, and is expected to be traded or released by the Redskins this offseason.

“I didn’t touch her,” Haynesworth said, according to documents. He also explained that he doesn’t “even like black girls.”

Haynesworth even took it a step farther, claiming that the alleged victim was motivated by Haynesworth’s taste in women.

“I know what this is about, she is just upset I have a white girlfriend,” Haynesworth reportedly told detectives. “I couldn’t tell you the last time I dated a black girl. She was trying to get with me.”

Thanks Mike! I heard this on the way home tonight and was like damn, again...

I couldn't wait to post this...

Titans receiver Kenny Britt is in trouble with the law – again. Britt was charged on Wednesday night with tampering with evidence, obstructing a government function and resisting arrest after allegedly crushing a cigar containing marijuana, according to court documents. Britt’s most recent arrest was in Hoboken. According to a complaint, Britt was arrested by narcotics officers after he destroyed/discarded physical evidence after being approached by two officers. The complaint said Britt had a hand rolled cigar leaf “containing suspected marijuana" and he broke it with his “hand and therefore making it unavailable to the investigating officers."
