Merriweather's lawyer claims that he (Merriweather) was only acting as a peacemaker trying to break up a fight and that he did not fire any shots. His lawyer said that they conducted their own investigation and that he has eye witnesses to back up their findings. Supposedly some other guy with 20 felony convictions was the actual shooter: http://audio.weei.com/a/38340495/adam-swickle-merriweather-s-lawyer.htm But then Dino Costa of Sirius Radio cited an "impeccable" (but unnamed) source as saying that Merriweather was the shooter. The really odd thing is that the source also claims that the alleged victims might not be alive anymore. Jolly was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Senties said the former Houston high school star gave the arresting officers a state identification card instead of a driver's license. After a background check, police discovered Jolly's license had been suspended in 2007 and was ineligible for renewal. A Packers spokesman said the team would have no comment. Jolly's agent didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. Jolly was suspended by the NFL without pay for all of last season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The ban stemmed from a separate drug arrest. In July 2008, Jolly was arrested in Houston for possession of at least 200 grams of codeine, a second-degree felony. Jolly could've faced up to 20 years in prison. But he was given pretrial diversion, a form of probation that would've had the charge against him dismissed if he didn't break the law over the next year. It appears his arrest stemmed from playing "loud music," but details, including when exactly he was arrested, are scarce at the moment. He was booked into Shreveport City Jail, presumably early Saturday morning, and released. More details should be available by Sunday, but from the sound of it, Peters' crime was minor in nature. GARLAND, Texas Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib is a "person of interest" in connection with a violent dispute in which his sister's boyfriend was allegedly attacked and shot at, the Dallas Observer reported Monday. According to police in the Dallas suburb of Garland, Talib was involved in a fight March 21 with his sister's partner, Shannon Billings. "The investigation is ongoing," Garland Police Department administration supervisor Captain Patrick McCulley told the Dallas Observer. "But I can confirm that Mr. Talib is a person of interest in the case." The incident, according to police, stemmed from an argument at Talib's sister Saran's house between her and Billings. Saran Talib reportedly called her brother and mother for help during the alleged altercation. Neighbors called 911 after hearing gunshots, and when police arrived they found Billings outside a residence in the area. Billings was arrested in connection with two prior incidents involving Talib's sister. He told officers he had been shot at during the latest bust-up. Billings also alleged that Talib had tried to "strike him in the face" with a pistol. Talib, 25, could face a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, in addition to a misdemeanor gun charge, the Observer said. When she was booked into jail, she also was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, based on a previous conviction, police said. Her bond was set at $30,000, and she remained in jail Tuesday afternoon. The assault charges against the Talibs are classified as second-degree felonies and carry a punishment of five to 20 years in prison, according to police. The warrant stems from a March 21 incident in which police were called to investigate a disturbance where people had been fighting and gunshots were heard. Murphy, who plays for the Oakland Raiders, was taken into custody just after midnight. Gainesville Police Officer Thomas Harrison said he spotted Murphy's Cadillac Escalade at 100 SW First St., with the stereo playing loudly. Harrison said he told Murphy, 23, to pull over, but then Murphy continued driving to a city parking lot, where he and his passengers got out of the SUV and walked away. Harrison flipped on his lights and ordered Murphy and the passengers to stop. Harrison said Murphy refused to present identification and demanded to know why Harrison stopped him. Harrison said Murphy continued to refuse to show his ID and so Harrison attempted to place him in handcuffs, but, he said, Murphy refused to put his hands behind his back. It took three officers to place the 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound NFL player into custody. Harrison said Murphy consented to a search of his vehicle, where officers found a “non-labeled prescription bottle containing 11 individual pills later identified as Viagra.” Murphy could not provide a prescription for it and allegedly told the officer that he had peeled the label off of the bottle “because he did not want his girlfriend to know he had a prescription for it.” This is Murphy's second arrest in Gainesville. The first one came in 2006, when he was taken into custody for possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. In a plea deal, the state attorney's office later declined to prosecute if Murphy completed 12 1/2 hours of community service or paid $125 to “Project Payback,” a juvenile program designed to monitor and enforce restitution to the courts. According to a Sports Illustrated article, Murphy vowed to turn his life around when his mother was diagnosed with cancer a second time in 2007. She died in on Valentine's Day 2008. He grieved in the butterfly garden at UF's Museum of Natural History when he worked there as an intern for part of his sports event management degree. He was also captain of UF's football team that year, scoring a touchdown from a Tim Tebow pass in the BCS championship game. Murphy volunteers in his off hours. Last year, he spoke with inmates at the Pinellas County Jail annex in Clearwater, telling them that everyone deserves a second chance. Thanks Mike - Added - here's the story... (RotoWire) Vrabel was arrested on felony theft charges at Belterra Casino Resort (Florence, Ind.) early Monday morning, NFL.com reports. Analysis: Vrabel apparently had some disagreement or misunderstanding over how many beers he was entitled to, or something to that effect, and took off with more than what the establishment figured he was owed. While the felony technicality of all theft in Indiana will make this a (briefly) juicy headline, it's doubtful anything substantive will come out of this. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said that he will enforce any violation of the league's personal conduct policy during the lockout once the work stoppage ends. The NFL, though, is prohibited from conducting drug testing during the lockout. Britt was not tested for possible drug use at the scene of the arrest, the police spokesman said. How do you translate this? Sounds like Goodell will punish if it occurs during the lockout - - - but only take action after the lockout??? Washington Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor sexual abuse, accused of fondling a server in a hotel restaurant in Washington. A grand jury returned an indictment formally charging Haynesworth in the alleged incident at a downtown Washington hotel in the early hours of Feb. 13. If convicted, the 29-year-old two-time All-Pro faces up to six months days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. According to the U.S. attorney's office, the government's evidence shows Haynesworth slid a credit card down the front of the server's dress and fondled her breast. Telephone and email messages left for Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, were not immediately returned. At the time the server's accusations became public, Speck said "there seems to be no truth to these allegations." Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie said the team referred all calls to Haynesworth and his agent. Haynesworth also faces charges in Virginia, accused of punching a man during a road-rage assault. His trial is scheduled for May. Titans receiver Kenny Britt is in trouble with the law – again. Britt was charged on Wednesday night with tampering with evidence, obstructing a government function and resisting arrest after allegedly crushing a cigar containing marijuana, according to court documents. Britt’s most recent arrest was in Hoboken. According to a complaint, Britt was arrested by narcotics officers after he destroyed/discarded physical evidence after being approached by two officers.
