Round 7 - Discussion

leaned in a few diferent directions. Ultimately decided to go with Daniels. He got a new 4 year deal and is fully healthy. The end of his 2010 was very strong and as Schaubs 2nd favorite target, i think he will easily be a top 5 TE.

QB? Nothing nearly worth this pick.

TE? Nothing nearly worth this pick.

WR? A few options, but no one really stands out.

Fred Jackson? Put up 1150 total yards and 7 TDs last year. I'll take that in a 4th RB.

I agree, I love Daniels this season.

I managed to land him in the 9th round in a money league made up of fftoday members, and I am happy with that pick, we are in the 13th round.

http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=383752

Daniels isn't so anxious because he is in contract limbo like roughly one-fourth of the players around the league. He received a four-year, $22 million extension a week before the lockout began.

No, Daniels is eager to prove to the organization and all of its fans that he is worth the investment. That he is the player who was poised to become one of the league's elite tight ends before injuries derailed much of his 2009 and '10 campaigns.

"I know the team has confidence in me to re-sign me with the deal they did," Daniels told PFW earlier this week. "I'm just excited to go out there and get a chance to prove myself again and gain some respect that I may or may not have lost along the way,"

Daniels tore his right ACL in Week Eight of the 2009 campaign. After suffering a setback last spring and dealing with a nagging hamstring injury last season, it was Week 14 before he found his stride again, reeling in 22 catches for 271 yards and a pair of TDs in the final four games.

"I tried to sound like I was feeling great when people asked me last season before I hurt my hamstring, but honestly, last year was a struggle for sure," Daniels admitted. "A little bit just gaining some confidence in the knee earlier in the year, then having the hammy issue and missing five-plus games during the middle of the year was tough. It's always been all or nothing for me, not something little that keeps me out for a little while."

Ending the season on a high note — he was the most targeted Texans receiver the last four weeks with 37 — was critical for the veteran tight end because it allowed him to carry momentum into the offseason.

"It's good from an individual confidence standpoint to feel good and know you're getting back close to where you were before," he said. "I've carried that into the offseason — I'm having my best offseason as a pro, which is kind of weird since it comes with this situation — but I'm looking forward to getting into camp and playing football with the guys again."

Daniels has been working out with teammates at Rice University since the lockout began. The workouts have included most of the skill-position players on offense, although the defense is expected to participate next week.

He raved about the leadership of QB Matt Schaub and ILB DeMeco Ryans, both of whom have helped spearhead workouts.

http://www.profootballweekly.com/2011/06/03/te-daniels-healthy-eager-to-get-back-to-work

2007 16 games - 63 receptions - 768 yards - 3 TD's

2008 16 games - 70 receptions - 862 yards - 3 TD's

2009 8 games - 40 receptions - 519 yards - 5 TD's

2010 Not so good, but it was because of setbacks in his ACL recovery

Both 2007 and 2008 were solid years, and 2009 he was on pace to be elite. He is only entering his age 28 season, which is extremely young as far as TE's are concerned. The team must believe in him to hand him the contract that they did.

If he stays healthy I think he is a safe bet to match his 2008 numbers which would put him around TE 4 or 5, and if Jacoby Jones(free agent) leaves he has the upside to finish with 1000 yards.

I think Owen Daniels is a safe late round selection that can even be used as a flex player in deeper leagues.

I decided to take the day off and sail up the Bay, will check in periodically when my Verizon air card picks up a signal, should not be an issue; I will also have my BB on me too, and can check through that.

I'm very curious to see how the next 16 picks play out. I'll comment more then, perhaps, but I like my receiving corps. Branch brings a little big-game to the mix, and I like that explosion.

I really want to know who you thought I was taking in Round 6. I've heard a few times in this draft now people penciling in my picks, and it makes me wonder if I'm that predictable.

Not surprised that Addai went there . . . more surprised that it was JScott who took him. It's a nice coup-de-grace for the RB corps, but leaves other positions chancy, no?

There were a few other players (other positions) I liked here but rolling the dice that I can still get one of them at the next pick. There are really no other solid RBs left on my board, so decided to take the last one on my list and close out my RB corp. Don't get me wrong there are other talented RBs worth rolling the dice on but the rest are splitting time, have questions, FAs, etc. Others might not agree but IMO Addai is the starter back in IND. Peyton trusts him, period. He is an injury risk but projecting his numbers from last year over a full season he was on pace for:

Touches: 283

Tot Yds: 1314

TDs: 9

The other RB he shared the backfield with is not the answer. They did draft a rookie RB who I think will take the other RBs place and spell Addai this upcoming season but that's all. Very few rookie RBs are trusted in pass protection their first season.

So, not bad at all for a RB4 but we'll see how the other positions fill out before I pat myself on the back too hard.

I very nearly took Addai instead of Branch, for the same reasons you stated. I figured him to have a snowball's chance at making it all the way around, but ultimately I went WR because of the teams that were between me. Can't fault the pick at all . . . it may be my "regret pick" when we evaluate post-draft.

Nice pick with Ben Roethlisberger. I figured Riceman would be the one to grab him between me, and he was the third consideration at my pick. Totally unsurprised, but I'm thinking that strategically, you could have let him drop through to the 8th round. It was unlikely that the group between the 7th and 8th were going to snag him over needed positions. Of course, I could easily be wrong . . .

You know when you start counting how many teams still need QBs (and you're one of them) and you figure ok, 6 teams left so at worst I'll grab the 12 ranked QB and be ok with it. But then you think with 11 off the board and you're the only one left you can wait an extra round before someone grabs a backup.... and in the midst of all this some a-hole decides to grab a 2nd QB before others have their first so it screws the pooch for you....

Just food for thought

Sincerely,

a-hole

I have been that a-hole many times over the years. As I would tell my friend that was the only one waiting to draft his first QB..."It's moments like these that teach leasons and build character. Now stop crying and take Scott Mitchell like a man, you dip$hit."

I'm not usually that a hole that takes a 2nd QB early...

but I ALWAYS am that a hole that takes a 3rd RB early.

I might have reached a round too soon on Graham, but I really wanted him. I have him at the same place I had Finley at last year. He is an emerging talent and I feel he will be a top 5 TE this year. TD's will be the key. I have him with 60 catches for 720 yards and 10 TD's. Brees got rather accustomed to finding him in the endzone the last 3 weeks of the season hitting him for 4 TD's in that span.

Then what are V4E and I who took our 4th RB early :shocking:
