Does Denver Have Any Chance Against the Steelers?

Recommended Posts

I think they have a slim chance because Roethlisberger is injured and the Steelers haven't played as well on the road as they have at home. If Denver's defense shows up bigtime and the offense manages to get a couple huge plays while protecting the ball, they could win.

Still I'd put the odds at no better than 20% and even that's probably being generous. Tebow can't move the ball and the Denver running game is out of gas.

Yes, they have a chance.

Tebow will not perform well against the Steelers defense, even with Clark out. But the problem is that the Steelers offense may not do much better. This has all the makings of a very low scoring, close game going into the 4th quarter. If it's a one score game, both quarterbacks are more than capable of putting together a crazy game-winning drive in the final two minutes. And if it comes down to a FG, I don't trust Suisham at all, even in that altitude.

The only thing that I can see making this a more lopsided game is turnovers. If Tebow has one of those outings where he throws 3 picks and gives Pittsburgh great field position, the Steelers can win comfortably (say, 24-9 or thereabouts). And vice versa if Ben is careless with the ball.

Steelers 16, Broncos 9.

Of course you fail to mention neither of these teams ended the season on a 3 game skid where they got progressively worse, and had a horrible NFL offense.

Of course, you fail to mention the rest of the post and handpick one item to try to make a point.

They were called "worst playoff teams ever". It's a pretty safe bet they didn't come roaring into the post season as juggernauts on one side of the ball or the other, genius.

Seattle lost 3 of their last 4, finished with a 7-9 record, and was the 28th ranked offense in the league. In the playoffs, they ran the ball for over 150 yds at a 5.5 ypc clip (with their 31st ranked rushing attack) and minimized mistakes to win a close game vs a heavily favored New Orleans team.

Arizona lost 4 of their last 6, including beatdowns of 47-7, 35-14 and 48-20, as they finished 9-7. In the playoffs, they forced four turnovers with their #28 ranked defense and won a close game vs an 11-5 Atlanta team. BTW, that's the year when 11-5 New England missed the playoffs and 12-4 wildcard team Indy lost to 8-8 division winner San Diego. Arizona also went to the east coast, where they'd gone a combined 0-5 by a score of 202-102 during the season, to beat Carolina in a rematch in the second round.

In the end, you failed pretty miserably in that attempt to make a point, but at least you tried.

I guess you can type, but you certainly can't read. None of this has any relevance what so ever to my point. Again, neither of these teams lost 3 straight, and neither of these teams had what is considered to be the worst NFL offense ever, incapable of passing. Both teams did, however, have QBs that had gone to multiple pro bowls, super bowls, and a previous league MVP. BTW, how long did it take you to look all that up champ? Maybe you should get back to work.....

Denver needs a score on special teams or defense to win this one imo. The Steelers injuries (and Clark's illness) are a big factor especially Rapistbergers foot as mobility is a big part of his game. Denver's pass D is way better than their run D which makes the Mendy injury look a bit more important. I think for Denver to win they have to be +2 in the turnover battle win the field position battle (on a side note, Colquitt has to be one of the most valuable players on Denver right now).

That being said I'd wouldn't bet on the Broncos getting any less than 7 or 8-1 so I guess I give them about a 15ish % chance to win.

So I guess my answer is yes, they have a slight chance to win.

um, you're talking about the top ranked scoring defense and top ranked yardage defense in the league, right? Against hands down the WORST offense and QB in the league. If Denver can't put up more than 3 pts against KC, they may score negative against the Steelers. I'll give Denver a bit of credit, but this has the makings of a 17-6 Steelers win. It's the same Steelers team that laid a 24-0 beatdown on the Seahawks, right? That team that was too overrated and banged up?

You should be on the TV sitting next to Shannon Sharpe with this kind of insight.

I completely agree. Anytime there's a penalty for Denver the drive is over, anytime they have a rush for less than two yards the drive is over, anytime they start on their side of the 50 the drive is over.

If Denver ever has over 5 yards to go on third down, starts more than 30 yards from field goal range, or has a penalty of any sort go against them--they might as well just punt.

(Sorry I needed 3 points from Tebow last week to win my superbowl, and he scored 2)

I'm eating crow big time. I found myself cheering for Denver and hoping they would pull it out in overtime. Kudo's to them and their fans for doing what I thought was impossible for them; especially after Decker went out with the injury.

NFL=not fully logical

Correction. God loves Tim Tebow. God loves sinners but hates sin. God loves all things Steelers....except for Big Ben. Blame him.
