***Official Seattle Seahawks Thread 2012***

Recommended Posts

Pete Carroll has no choice but to play this style of football. Pete Carroll football at USC also had an element of a passing game, with highly regarded, talented throwers. Take a look around the league, look at the numbers of QBs yesterday, the ones that played the entire game, ignoring injury situations. Wilson ranked among the worst. He did not play well in the first half. Yet, he did enough to allow the running game to take over in the 4th quarter and didn't lose the game for us. And I'm OK with that. Against the Jets. That will not work against the better teams in the NFC. Seattle rushes for just as many yards as it throws for. That's not that many yards overall. But, one step at a time. Need to make the playoffs first. Also, the rush defense didn't look good yesterday again, vs a mediocre Jets rushing attack.

With this bye week, I have nothing to complain about for 2 weeks. What am I going to do with myself?

Russell Wilson is getting better every week. Stop trying to justify your early season assessment of him. It's ok to say you were wrong. The Hawks are 6-4 and heading towards the playoffs with a rookie QB. OBTW, Bruce Irvin leads the team (and rookies) in sacks. I seem to remember you screaming for Quinton Coples. I think I heard his name once yesterday. Go hawks!

Russell Wilson is the 4th best rookie QB this season who passes for 150 yards a game enough though every team is stacking the box to stop the running game. He's Ty Detmer. He has all the pieces around him to succeed, like very few QBs have ever had at the start of their careers. Serious question. How much better do you think Andrew Luck is compared to Wilson? How much more talent to you think Tannehill or Griffin have? Don't look at the team records for a second, even the Colts. Do you think Wilson is going to be as good as any of them? Luck might the league's MVP this year. Wilson's stats and accuracy have been unimpressive.

Bruce Irvin is a 3rd and long specialist who is a liability every time he steps on the field. He has 7 sacks. Great. Teams game plan so that when Irvin is on the field, they take the ball to his side because he is easily overpowered at the point of attack. He has been a negative for the defense overall. He has a long way to go before he is a consistent positive contributor; however, don't ever expect him to be decent against the run. He will never, never, never be an every down player. He is a .115 hitter with 7 home runs and 200 strikeouts on the season. This is a first round impact player? You get players like that in the mid rounds. If he was a 3rd round pick, I'd be OK with him. But a first rounder? There was a lot of talent out there.

Russell Wilson has the most TD passes of all rookie QBs. He is doing what the Hawks are asking him to do. Stop holding grduges against players you didn't want the hawks to draft. You give these guys back handed compliments and faint praise when they do well and then drop the hammer when the chance arises. Irvin, Wilson, and Wagner have done really well thus far and the Hawks are in playoff positon because of their contributions. OBTW, Wilson does not have ALL the peices to succeed. The OLINE is avg at best and the WR core (as a whole) is avg to below avg.

Dig deep down into your honesty well. If Flynn was putting up Wilson type stats all season, would you be so forgiving? Tarvaris Jackson? Charlie Whitehurst? Or are you letting the rook slide because he is a rookie. It's not like we didn't/don't have other options?

Just curious.

The Seattle Seahawks are ranked #27 overall in yards per game, #32 in the league in passing yards per game. This team is the WORST passing offense in the league. We could put you behind center and not do any worse, because we are already dead last. But keep praising Wilson. :overhead:

Matt Flynn was signed because the Hawks needed someone to come in and beat out Tarvaris Jackson. Flynn was the best of a non existent FA QB class and because the Seahawks couldn't guarentee that they would get a QB in the draft, they over paid for his services. I watched Flynn in pre season and he was mediocre at best. That being said, he is a better back up than Jackson would have been. So I'm grateful for that. Now would I be as forgiving to Flynn? If the Seahawks were 6-4 and Flynn were playing just like Wilson, I would be fine with that. Winning is what matters, not stats.

Am I praising Wilson? I didn't think I was praising him as much as I was pointing out that your biased rants week after week even after Wilson plays a good game are getting old. We know he wasn't on your draftboard but let's move on. Wilson is the QB and will be unless he gets hurt. Right now we are in the playoffs and we need to enjoy this as the season is starting to shape up nicely. :overhead:

I'm not going to keep dragging this out. How am I biased when we have the worst passing offense in the league? Take a look around. There are some brutal starting QBs in this league. They are all doing better than Wilson apparently.

I am not crazy. I swear, I'm not.

OK. Two weeks off.

Focusing on the aggregate numbers makes him seem worse I think. On a yards per attempt basis, Wilson is averaging 7.2, better than Luck, slightly worse than Brady or Brees or RGIII. He is also completing a higher percentage of passes than Luck. I think your beef is mainly with the OC and the play calling. The offense is built solidly around Lynch with just enough deep throwing to keep defenses honest: he just isn't being asked to throw as much.

Keep in mind that if Wilson wasn't accurate enough with the deep ball, no one would respect it as a threat and lynch would have a harder time. For a 3rd rd pick I'd say he has played above expectations.

If he works hard he could probably end up as an ok special teams player, and backup linebacker somewhere that was really hurting at the position. I think he shows up in Cleveland or Carolina for preseason next year and ends preseason on their practice squads.

It's kind of amazing how many first round busts there are in the NFL considering how much money is involved. I am still stunned we got anything back in trade for him.

I will say Wilson does seem to be improving so as long as he keeps getting better I am encouraged. We do need to get him a talented WR to help him develop our WR corp is pushing decent but nothing special. Anyone else scared Golden Tate is doing just enough to get a contract extension at the last minute? <_<

I am just terrified we end up with another Dave Krieg type qb, someone who is league average to mediocre and hangs around for years. I am just desperate for us to get a franchise QB in Seattle, we have never had one.

Getting a franchise QB usually means picking in the top 3. So, don't hold your breath.

Didn't they get a 7th for Curry?

I thought it was a pretty good gamble for Oakland. They gave up virtually nothing to take a shot on a young player drafted real high, maybe thinking a change of scenery would help.

Obviously they were wrong but not a bad gamble. I think you are right on his potential role in the league. Sticking it out as a back up in the NFL is probably a much better option than the the alternatives.

RW has been excellent. Should care about TD/int ratio more than aggregate yards. They manage the game milk clock and don't make mistakes.

That offense isn't built for fun and gun. Best WR is a castoff from the vikes

I've done some self reflecting these past two weeks.

Russell Wilson is not a franchise QB. He never will be. I suppose it's heart wrenching when you see a team like Indianapolis seamlessly transition from Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck, when you see the just the eye popping ability of Robert Griffin, and then you look back on the franchise history of nearly 40 years, and the Seahawks have never had a franchise QB. Mirer was drafted early, but one decent year later, he imploded. The closest we have come have been decent soldiers in Matt Hasselbeck and Dave Kreig. Otherwise, we end up with Dan McGuire, Stan Gelbaugh, Jon Kitna, Charlie Whitehurst, and other's I've long tried to forget. Russell Wilson will never be a franchise QB. This team will never have an Eli Manning, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Ben Rapeingburger, that can singlehandedly carry a team to a title. I see Wilson as a transitional QB until we can get lucky and find a Dree Brees, a Philip Rivers, a Matt Flynn, someone that can exceed expectations because we just aren't going to draft low enough for a little while to get a stud QB. I don't think we have the QB that is capable to getting us to where we need to go, and I think we might be done looking. And that makes me very frustrated. We can do worse, we can do better. Looks like SF has brought in a young guy at QB with more ability than Wilson, and that makes me concerned too.

Sigh. There are a bunch of teams scrambling for playoff spots in the NFC, and we have to decide whom to root for. SF or New Orl, for example?

This is the first week that I've really started looking at other games, and teams to root for also.

Picking every game with an NFC is alittle silly. So I'll just go with a top 3 games of the week.

#1. The obvious, and the #1 need every week. Seattle gets a win.

Lets go Seattle. (On a side note also. I got a case of beer on the game with a Dolphin buddy I got. I'll be giving 3pts on todays action)

Lets squish the fish!!!

#2. Come on New Orleans. A S.F. loss would be pretty big for us. I also can't stand Harbaugh and wouldn't mind his QB shuffle back fireing on him.

#3. Come on Atlanta. So Atlanta gets the #1 seed. Who cares. That's a spot that's out of reach for us anyways. Plus, are you scared to have to play them in Atlanta? I'm not. So another win for them means nothing to me, but a Bucs loss would be really nice. It'll start to seperate us from one of the pack.

Matt Flynn has the highest success rate in games started in National Football League History and he's already on the roster. Oh, I see you mentioned Matt Flynn. Too bad the coach is too dumb to start him.

The easiest rooting interest is for Atlanta to beat Tampa Bay. TB is coming on strong for a wildcard. Atlanta doesn't affect us.

Minnesota and Chicago is tricky. We own the tie break on Minnesota, and still have to play Chicago next week to determine that tie breaker. A lot of people assume at least one of the wild cards will come out of the NFC North. I have to pass on rooting on this one.

Root for NY Giants to beat Green Bay. We have the tie breaker on Green Bay. And Minnesota. And after next week, maybe Chicago. It would be nice to have a tiebreaker on every possible NFC North playoff contender, so you don't have to worry about their outcomes the rest of the year. NY Giants will win their division, and no one else from NFC East will make playoffs.

SF you are trying to chase down for the division, with a SF loss today and Seattle win, they are only half a game up, divisional record and head to head doesn't matter. Just have to finish with one game better than SF the last 5 weeks. On the other hand, New Orl is coming on strong for a wild card.

Ariz/StL and Car/Phil don't matter at all.

I'd recommend to root for Seattle, NY Giants over GB, Atlanta over TB. SF/NO snd Minn/Chic is personal preference.

It's really sad. Week after week, I expect the Seahawks to get ignored every Sunday pre game show, including the 7 hours on NFL network, where they recycle stories on the same 5 games and ignore all other content. But, 3 games already gone on Thursday, lack of interesting matchups, Seattle 6-4 vs Miami 4-6, and flipping through 3 and 4 channels, haven't seen any mention that this game even exists today. It's half an hour to kick off. Not one mention. Oh, rat farts. Rat farts, indeed.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Russell Wilson's season stats are not impressive and he ranks dead last in the NFL in several categories.

But, whatever. Some people love him, some people don't. :dunno:

Well, tied at 7 at the half. Badly out rushed, own the turnover advantage, tied up. I guess we should be counting our blessings. The WRs and RBs are getting terrific yards after catch. Miami has shut down Lynch thus far. Miami is running effectively to the outside for huge chucks of yards, which is 5 alarm bells ringing alarms. This team is absolutely sleepwalking through the game as if they have bellies full of turkey and stuffing, and the offense is just horrendous. You can't get a turnover that deep in Miami territory and punt. Dammit, man.

And for those blindly praising Wilson, Tannehill has looked just as good, for what it's worth. But I'm not blaming Wilson for the 1st half. The team overall needs to get going. Need an emotional spark on special teams or defense.

I think it's pretty obvious even to an old drunk like me that you need to roll out Wilson as much as possible. You get more open spaces and more passing lanes are visible to midget Wilson. The more time he spends in the pocket, the less he will see. So, let's keep the guy moving. Give him more of a chance for success.

And I don't think I'd trade the Lynch-Turbin combo for any other 2 Rbs in the league.

Last in the NFL in passing yards. Tries not to get in the way while the defense and Lynch win close ball games. Seahawks average less than 20 points per game.

Wilson just threw a screen pass that took Seattle waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of FG in the final minutes. And then got sacked. Russell Wilson. Fock you, fockstick. You just lost the game.

I can't take not winning on the road any longer.

Win at home, lose on the road. Lose on the road, win at home.

I don't even have to watch the games.

Road game lose. Home game win. 8-8 There. I just called the 2013 season.

Why can't we ever win on the mother f'n road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And p.s. Why when we're driving for the winning FG. Do we go -9 yards on 3 plays.

If you take the ball and fall foward, you gain a yard.

That should be 3 plays for +3 yards minimum. They lost 9 yards on 3 plays? WTF?????????

P.S.S.

Where in the hell is my 10 second run off refs?

Win at home, lose on the road.
