nikki2200 4 Posted March 18, 2012 We bought one of those Tempurpedic memory foam mattresses a few months ago with a pillow top so it's extra thick. The mattress heats up so much during the night and I wake up in a pool of sweat with swamp ass every day. Apparently it absorbs the heat from your body. We didn't know any of this before we bought the mattress. Online some people suggested putting a blanket under the mattress cover and that helps prevent it from heating up. This doesn't seem to work. Does anyone else have one of these and have you found a way to keep it cool? There are some mattress pads online that supposedly insulate it from your body heat, but they didn't get great reviews. remote controller 143 Posted March 18, 2012 When you shop around for all kind of mattresses, this is some info you will find out about. They are horrible mattresses because of heat issues. They claim they have a new one with coolingparticlesin them........sounds kind of fishy to me. Stick with posture pedics!!

nikki2200 4 Posted March 18, 2012 Have had one for years and never found that to be the case. Have the thickest foam, no pillow top. What is interesting about this... the boyfriend's brother and sister-in-law just bought a new pillow top mattress too, not memory foam. They said the same thing. Their bed gets really hot. EXACT reason I went with an air bed over memory foam when I bought a mattress many years ago. Course, my air bed is pretty much shot to hell and it's like sleeping on a board now, but at least I don't sweat my ass off. Don't these things have a money back guarantee??? WhiteWonder 2,681 Posted March 18, 2012 if only you had gone on to ANY website. Overstock, Amazon, anything and read some of the reviews on memory foam. I bought a new mattress in December. I wanted something a little on the softer side because even though i've always been told firm is good for your back, i often woke up stiff and would wake up in the middle of the night with numbness from my arm being trapped between my body and the firm mattress. i initially wanted to go memory foam, especially when i saw how much cheaper they were at a place like overstock.com but after reading all the reviews the two big negatives i read were initial odor and overheating. I didnt care much about the odor as most people say it goes away quickly enough and im also not someone who gets too hot. But I wasn't thrilled at the thought of getting all hot and sweaty during SLEEP and i could only imagine the foam absorbing my sweat and becoming nasty. I went with a softer Sealy pillow top mattress on sale from Sears and its been very good. Ive heard good things about Latex mattresses but they are on the pricey side. OldMaid 2,129 Posted March 18, 2012 If I'd only known you were going to buy a Tempurpedic, I would have talked you out of it. Hopefully you bought it from a place with a good return policy... We just got rid of one a few years back for the exact same reason. Such a shame too, because they really are super comfortable mattresses, aside from the heat retention thing. We ended up switching back to a conventional spring mattress with a latex foam European box-top and putting a featherbed topper over it. It's heaven without the heat. But would the Sealy be that much better when it comes to heat? Like I said, we know people that have the same complaint with just a normal pillow top mattress. Is there something they can do so it doesn't absorb your body heat? The one we were originally looking at was the Serta iComfort Prodigy. I can't imagine they all wouldn't have the same issues. if only you had gone on to ANY website. Overstock, Amazon, anything and read some of the reviews on memory foam. I went with a softer Sealy pillow top mattress on sale from Sears and its been very good. Ive heard good things about Latex mattresses but they are on the pricey side. We weren't completely unaware of the heat issue. The guy at the mattress store even told us about it but also said that they fixed it and it wasn't really a problem anymore. I guess we didn't realize how real it was. My boyfriend sleeps with a heated mattress pad in the winter and I'm not one to get hot easily. But this is just insane. I have to change the sheets every fews days because they smell like rotten feet from us sweating every night. Gives a new meaning to the term "wet spot". And it has completely ruled out morning sex, which is really the only benefit from sharing a bed in the first place. If I'd only known you were going to buy a Tempurpedic, I would have talked you out of it. Hopefully you bought it from a place with a good return policy... We really didn't know we were going to. We were checking out mattresses for a while... going into stores and laying on them. You know I have a bad back and this was in the midst of the separate bedroom saga. I laid on these beds and thought they were heaven and I finally caved about having my own room. In this one particular store, the guy basically said he'd give the whole system to us for $3700 (mattress plus adjustable base) and he even threw in the fancy pillows for free. I think the list price on it was close to $6000. So I was like OK... let's just get it. I think I now understand why he couldn't unload this thing which seemed too good to be true. It was too good to be true. god damn. im no cheapo and i realize a mattress is one place you don't want to skimp on but i could not fathom spending 3700 on a mattress base set and then potentially ending up hating it. i spent 450 on my innerspring pillowtop (eurotop? i guess it is whatever the difference is). granted my bedframe is a platform so i dont need the base and part of the reason i wanted a platform is that they charge you 300+ for basically a support box for your mattress and its a Queen but even a King WITH the base would have still run me under a grand. jerryskids 6,575 Posted March 18, 2012 A long time ago the wife and I went to Sears and got a nice pillowtop mattress set. After two days she sheepishly said "I don't know what to do... I hate it, I can't sleep on it." She's a tummy sleeper, and the pillow thingy didn't work. Sears said they had a 30 day return policy so I called them up, and to their credit they took it back. We ended up getting a "regular" mattress, no problems since. Also a lot cheaper. I don't know what they do with returned mattresses. Anyway, return it if it isn't too late. I honestly thought the only criteria was, is it comfortable? people return mattresses or end up unhappy with them all the time. Sagging, heat retention issue, lumpy. Its just like buying a car that test drives great and then you find a dozen issues with it a month or two later. Plus, not often do you actually buy the store model of the mattress you lay down on to test. but hey, im still getting over the 3700 price tag

Of course now i cant sleep without it, and i have to bring it with me whenever i sleep in hotels and junk, but still. We have a king size posturepedic memory foam mattress, one firm side and one plush side. One important thing is to use the protective mattress cover for spills of sweat. I have a box fan at the foot of my side of the bed that is constantly on when I'm in bed. I love it for the noise and the fact it keeps air flowing around the foot of the bed. best mattress I have ever owned, without question. We even have foam latex pillows
DankNuggs 305 Posted March 19, 2012 I never found those mattresses comfortable. If you want something soft just buy an eggcrate or pillow topper, problem solved... I did read that mattresses double in weight every 5 or 8 years or whatever... Makes you think twice. We have some sheet stretchy thing that goes over the mattress before putting on the sheets. Not sure if its heat related or just to protect the mattress. Those memory foam beds also cost about $5 to make in china, then they vaccuum seal them like those storage infomercials, sell them to dipzhits for $4k. Do some research.
