WhiteWonder 2,734 Posted April 22, 2013 i tested a few out recently... hands down best hybrid i've hit is the adams super xtd... the thing flies from any lie. I put it up against the rbz, cobra baffler, and the pingi20... it wasn't even close. It was around 10 yards farther than the baffler or ping, and about 5 farther than the rbz, yet the ball flight was higher. The only negative would be if you can't get over the slot out of the crown... it was weird at first, but once you see how the ball comes off of the club face you won't care anymore. golfwrx guys seem to love it too xtd they should try editing their reviews. perhaps i will test this club out though. Cruzer 1,995 Posted April 22, 2013 No matter how long you've been playing - you still get shocked with something you've never seen before.Buddy of mine teed off and hit a low, burning, ugly, skank drive Saturday - focker never got 6" off of the ground. At about the 70 yard mark it slammed into the side of an unsuspecting squirrel. It was awful, made the most terrible sound - needless to say the little guy hopped into the air and crashed back down to the ground, DOA. Due to his bravery and sacrifice, I was able to win that hole with a par bcoz said squirrel killer made bogey.

So I checked out the specs and came up with the following: assuming you were hitting all "the same" hybrid. The adams super hybrid 3h is a 17* loft. The RBZ 3h is 19*. The pingi20 comes in either 17* or 20* as opposed to using the 3 4 or 5 label printed on the club, and has a slightly shorter shaft. Cobra baffler 3h is 19* and also a shorter shaft. so assuming you were using all 3's, the adams should go farther with its stronger loft and longer shaft. The adams super xtd 3h (which is what i purchased) has 19* loft. It has a mitsubishi rayon shaft (stiff) that is 40.5" in length. The do make a 2h that is 17* I can't speak to the shaft length of the rocketballz, but their 3h also had 19* loft. All four clubs felt like identical specs except for the ping i20 which is a 'players' hybrid, so it flew a little lower and was less forgiving (maybe why i lost a few yards compared to the others.) Other than that, all 19* loft... felt about the same length. I'm telling you that you at least need to give this club a shot.

The xtd is last years model, and can be had at a decent price (i believe initially they were marketing it as a higher level club charging $400 for a hybrid!?!?!?) EDIT... they are still asking a robust $250 for the club... meh i think you can probably get it for $120 or so at ebay (and for the quality of club definitely worth a look) Either way happy hunting for a hybrid Here is the beauty at TGW.com... super xtd

KSB2424 3,148 Posted April 24, 2013 10:00 - 11:00: Golf Clinic with David Leadbetter After about a 30 minute clinic David put on we all started hitting balls on the range and he would come down the line and spend a couple mintues with each person. So the worlds #1 golf instructer (sorry Butch) is standing in front of me and tells me to grab a 7iron and take my normal swing. Davids reaction? In his U.K. accent "Well, I would tell you what you did right or wrong but you swung so damn fast I can't tell you anything." Apparently per David Leadbetter my swing (take back) is waaaaaay to quick. I've been told this before but coming from him really drives it home. He said my set up was good, my grip was good, my posture was fine. I just get way to tense and whip my take away back which causes my issues of hitting it fat from time to time. He gave me a couple drills to help out and a pointer or two (breathing). It was pretty cool getting some one on one time from a guy like that. Couple cool moments: 1. During the clinic portion he was throwing some friendly jabs at Butch Harmon and Hank Haney which was funny. 2. Leadbetters arrival? Landed on the range via helicopter. Cruzer 1,995 Posted May 21, 2013 Rule 14-1b is in the books - both the R&A and USGA agreed anchored putting will be banned starting in 2016. The PGA tour, however, still has to decide what and how they are going to respond to this. Although I have a bit of tired head talking about this issue, be interesting to see what the Player Advisory Council comes back with.
cbfalcon 825 Posted May 21, 2013 I managed an 86 at Fossil Creek (FW course designed by Arnold Palmer) last week. Kind of a funny round in that I couldn't get an iron in the air on the range. My last 8 swings were shanks. Yet I just assumed it would be fine once I got onto the course, and it mostly was. I've recently changed from a draw swing thought to more of a fade swing thought. My current issue is that my driver is wild as can be with this swing thought. Big slices right and giant hooks left. The worst case scenario. Yet my irons are getting more and more consistent by the round. This lead to a crazy first 11 holes. Driver was insanely wild and the irons were keeping me alive. Finally on hole 12, I said "fucck it" and starting hitting draws off the tee while sticking with the fade thoughts with my irons. The result is I didn't hit a bad shot the rest of the day. Played the final 7 holes at +2, and that was with me missing two birdie putts inside of 10 feet, and not getting up and down a couple times from just a foot or two off the green. Unless I find more time to practice, I may just have to swing this way. Draws with the driver and fade the irons. Obviously having a similar swing thought/path for all the clubs would be more consistent. I just know I tend to give away a lot of rounds and strokes because I'm too focused on what will be best longterm as oppose to what will lower my score on that given day. It's a stupid attitude to have considering I'm a weekend golfer that plays 25-30 times a year.

At neutral with the driver i have a bit of a fade which i can work with especially with dogleg left holes (im lefty) I think this is the route I need to go as well. On video, I had determined my swing was just way too flat and shallow. It worked ok off the tee, but made it much too difficult to achieve an optimal iron strike. If I can get back to playing weekly, I think I can get back into the 70's with this plan sometime this summer.

Played Fossil many times - absolutely love the back, one of the best 9 holes in the area. But the front is a bit of a drag - could of done a way better job with it I think. When the wind is up, which is most of the time, #10 is about as brutal a 3-par as you will ever play, least from the back........ In late afternoon, as the sun is going down, #12 is one of the most beautiful holes of golf you can play anywhere.

If I can get back to playing weekly, I think I can get back into the 70's with this plan sometime this summer. definitely, you can't hit solid irons with a shallow swing... At least not where i play, maybe in dry, flat tejas conditions you can get away with it more... I swing my driver like I swing a 3 wood off the deck, backswing is almost off my back shoulder. I tee the ball fairly low compared with most people i play with... I have a buddy that has the craziest driver ball flight, it starts off as a low burner, then 50-75 yards out goes straight up into the air. He also had a negative(plus) HC in college and was on a D1 golf team.
BunnysBastatrds 2,438 Posted May 21, 2013 No matter how long you've been playing - you still get shocked with something you've never seen before.Buddy of mine teed off and hit a low, burning, ugly, skank drive Saturday - focker never got 6" off of the ground. I was playing a round one day after work with some good buddies. We get to a long par 4 and I see this old silver headed lady (36C) on the left side of my fairway. She was coming up the faiway from her tee box and stopped her cart next to her ball. I hadn't hit a tee shot left in years so I hit away. The fawking ball goes straight left and right at her. She's about 250 yards away so I yell fore as loud as I can. The ball flys right into the cart and hits her squarely between the t!ts. She then falls right out of the cart and onto the ground and lies there motionless as her two grandsons are standing over her not knowing what to do. It was cartoonish the way it played out. So I race down the fairway trying to get to her as fast as I can while my arsehole friends are screaming "Twoo Twoooooooo." I finally get to her and she's laying on the ground holding her t!ts while the grandsons are about to start crying because I killed their Nana. I help her up and set her back in the cart and ask her if she needs anything. She slightly pulls down the front of her blouse and there is this huge bruise turning all kinds of ugly colors. She said something about always feeling safe in a cart and how she's gonna have a huge bruise in the morning and for me to not worry. The tough old broad drove off and finished the round. I couldn't find my ball. It was in her cart. My buddies made me go back to the tee and hit again.
WhiteWonder 2,734 Posted May 21, 2013 company outing yesterday. never played the course before but it was in beautiful condition. Hit it pretty well off the tee. Didn't find many fairways but every tee shot was <10 feet into the rough and i was bombing it....normally those would be more than playable but having just rained all Sunday night, the rough was wet and gnarly. My distance with my irons was waay off and it resulted in very few birdie putts, no actual birdies and an 87 on the card... (the short game wasn't so sharp either). The bright side - my group was not so hot and all were impressed with my playing One of those rounds where you have to grin and take compliments for shots you're not even happy with

Cruzer 1,995 Posted May 28, 2013 Well after 3 long freaking weeks, finally got to hit the ball again. Not sure what was going on, but I struck it extremely well for 72. But about 10 years ago they did a redesign making it much more playable.

I love Champions, it's a really great track and it has an awesome flow to it. Like most here, when the wind blows it can play tough. But it also can be scored on too - lots of birdie holes. DankNuggs 305 Posted May 28, 2013 Played for the first time on friday. Had only hit 2 buckets of balls off mats since last year. 40-43 split on a pretty tough cape cod course 6700 yds... Played the same ball the entire round (yellow NXT Tour-S) What a start to the season...

DankNuggs 305 Posted May 28, 2013 Which course? I played on the Cape last weekend. Much better weather than this weekend. Bayberry in W Yarmouth. Tried to play in Brewster, but there was standing water on the course and it was closed. We teed off around 1pm, had mist for 4-5 holes, bad rain for 3-4 holes, then overcast but dry on the back nine... Soggy but the course was very playable. DankNuggs 305 Posted May 28, 2013 I have played Bayberry. Played Captains and Olde Barnstable last week. All great courses... Bass River is also a nice track. Especially if you only plan to play 9 holes as the first 6 holes on the front nine all front on the river. My brother worked grounds at Captains when we were kids... I also have an in to play at Ocean Edge, which is a really nice track they redid about 5 years ago into a Jack Nicklaus design.
