ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Trent Richardson is "tentatively" expected to undergo another knee scope during his Thursday visit with Dr. James Andrews.

Per Mort, the arthroscopic procedure is "tentatively scheduled," although it sounds pretty inevitable. The surgery will "clean up loose particles of cartilage," and is Richardson's second scope in the past six months. While the procedure sounds minor in nature and surely will be billed as such by the Browns, it confirms that Richardson essentially suffered a setback. We'll have more news on a potential return timeline soon, but Richardson can be expected to miss the entire preseason. His early-season workload is now a major concern. Richardson is no longer a recommended first- or second-round fantasy pick.

I have the number one pick in a rookie draft friday. Was planning on taking Trich. Already have Brees and Newton so no need for a qb. Maybe take martin now. I still find it hard to pass on Richardson.

Everyone needs to do what they feel is right, of course, but I recommend that you hold the course if you had Richardson pegged at 1.01 for your dynasty league's rookie draft. In the near term, I understand this news moving Richardson down draft boards in redraft leagues. Not so much in dynasty, imo.

The two most feared words in football... James Andrews.

Wonder how this is impacting even dynasty drafters? Would anyone consider Martin over Richardson?

(RotoWire) Richardson's visit to Dr. James Andrews on Thursday reportedly includes a tentatively scheduled arthroscopic surgery to clean up a loose particle of cartilage in the running back's left knee, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports. Analysis: Mort, normally a reliable source, goes on to add that the operation would be considered a proactive and minor procedure. The report also notes that the issue involves a "hang nail particle" that is not related to the meniscus repair that Richardson had done on the same knee in February. Assuming the scope -- however minor -- takes place, Richardson's Week 1 availability could be in some peril.

I heard he might miss week 1 if he has his knee scoped. And what kind of shape will he be in while he rehabs the knee. Richardson is in the NFL and not college. I think the upside is starting to fade a tad. I was really high on him before this came out.

Great! Now we have several threads to go with the several reports.

Great... I hope everyone keeps over reacting and he falls within my reach. Scared owners equate to value picks for late round drafters....:headbanger:

I think this works out perfectly. He was going between the 11-15 range. Now this will almost defiantly bump how down greatly if I could some how land him as my rb3 I'd be stoked

The way some of you guys poo poo'd this original story is hilarious.

I am pissed because a bunch of idiots were gonna draft him top 12 to 15.

Its the Browns people where players go to die.

At least we know there is no way he can get an infection from surgery....oh ######

If it's a minor scope, it's not a big deal. He could be running in a few days. If it's more than that, well then that's a different story. I wont be drafting him anyhow, unless this news sends him to the 4th round...

A scope is a scope. 2 in 6 months is horrible. It will mess up his conditioning and limit his reps in preseason games to maybe zero. Other than that yeah big deal

Since I have 1.01 (which will be Foster) in a snake draft redraft format, timing is everything here. I'm thinking he could drop to the 2/3 turn. So I'm thinking - buying opportunity!

BTW, there is no way anyone in my dynasty leagues is going to let him go cheap. They were all deluged with offers which they turned down pre-draft and so they are already invested.

First it was just soreness. Then he just needed to see the doctor but it's no big deal. Now it's surgery, but don't worry it's only minor.

By the end of the week, I expect to hear that his leg has been amputated at the knee. :)

He is a rookie, on a terrible team, with 2 knee scopes in 6 months. Typically you can still take a chance on a guy like this with a low risk pick. The problem here is he is going in the SECOND ROUND. I just don't get it. People foaming at the mouth for a completely unknown with all the signs pointing toward second round let down.

TRich down, Hardesty up. Got it?

Side note - according to WTAM un Cleveland, Hardesty has looked pretty good in camp. He'll start vs Detroit so we should have a decent look very soon.

I've had scopes and as with most injuries there are degrees of severity with each. If it is minor, like they claim, then he will be practicing in a week. Pretty much the same as a hamstring strain or any other MINOR injury.

It is very common to "clean up" a bit after a surgery, so the 2 in 6 months is not horrible as you claim. Again, if it is what they claim.

Trent Richardson and Dr. Andrews

Posted by Jene Bramel on August 8, 2012

As I hit the publish button on the last post, Chris Mortenson of ESPN tweeted the following:

Trent Richardson’s visit to Dr. Andrews includes tentatively scheduled arthroscopic surgery to clean up loose particle of cartilage.

Richardson’s surgery would be considered as proactive minor procedure; a “hang nail particle” not related to meniscus repair on same knee.

Richardson is expected to be ready for season opener, if not sooner.

Here’s how those tweets break down:

Richardson will have arthroscopic surgery tomorrow to remove a small piece of meniscus from his knee. The suggestion is that the fragment is very small and not in the same region of lateral meniscus tissue that was repaired in February. That would dovetail nicely with the report earlier today that the MRI findings were “not a big deal.” The minor procedure will likely only require 2-3 weeks of rehab time and Richardson should be back before the end of the preseason.

In other news, the Cleveland fan base let out a collective sigh of relief that has those living on the edge of Lake Erie under a tsunami watch.

I don’t think there’s anything particularly fishy in Mortenson’s report. It’s great news for Richardson, who has already recovered well from a similar procedure earlier this year, since it seems likely that he won’t be losing a significant amount of cartilage and apparently isn’t continuing to have difficulty in the area of his previous tear.

Still, any removal of meniscal tissue should be seen for what it is — the loss of tissue that cushions the knee joint from impact. I’m not about to speculate that Richardson will have a shorter, less successful career than hoped after these two procedures. On the contrary, I commonly cite Maurice Jones-Drew and Marques Colston as players who have overcome serious meniscal damage to play at a very high level. But you should also not dismiss the possibility that we’ll be discussing his knees frequently in coming seasons.

Barring a surprise finding during tomorrow’s scope or a setback in the rehab process, expect Richardson to be ready to go on opening weekend.

Does Dr. Andrews do "minor" scopes? He's pretty busy with elbows and shoulders in MLB, I'm not sure why he would be needed for a minor knee scope.

If someone would pay you 15K for 45 minutes of work, would you do it?
