edjr 7,012 Posted April 15, 2014 How many more do you think he should have won thus far? I feel like he will win 2 more. If so, he ties for 7th with Palmer, Jones, Sarazen, Snead, and Vardon.
cbfalcon 828 Posted April 16, 2014 Obviously Phil could have and probably should have won a couple more. But my guess is we can say the same thing about every guy above him on the Majors list. Just looking at Runner Up finishes (list from 2011), Jack had 19, Palmer had 10, Snead and Watson with 8, Hogan, Nelson, Player, and Vardon had 6. I bet that had we seen every one of those tournaments, we would think each of them should have grabbed a couple more.

He was on top of world in the early 80's, with some competition---but he was clearly ahead of everyone else, when he got the yips with his putter, right when he should have been in his prime. He could have easily been low teens in major wins.
cbfalcon 828 Posted April 16, 2014 Look who jack came in 2nd to those 19 times. Who did Phil come in 2nd to? Geoff Ogilvy? Jack had 3 runner up finishes in 1964, including losses to guys named Tony Lema and Bobby Nichols. Taking it further, my research indicates that every single guy Jack finished runner up to had a worse resume than Jack. So he should have beaten them, just like Phil should have beat Ogilvy. Jack is the all time leader in Majors, or hadn't you heard? How can you critique the all time leader? Who cares who he lost to, he's the GOAT! Does anyone bust on Montana for losing to Washington in 1983? Fock no, you never hear about it. WHY? GOAT! you hear plenty about the other guys and their chokes, Brady, Manning etc. Deal with it. edjr 7,012 Posted April 16, 2014 Nope, I refuse. You should tell me the names above him on the wins or majors list that you think he is better than. Who? He has more natural talent than everyone on that list. If he had Tiger wood's drive way back when and wasn't a lazy focker, he would have 20 majors. Fock, have you ever seen the dude play right handed?

In 1990 at the first event where you were in the announcer’s booth, Peter Jacobsen had a tough shot going into the 72nd hole at the Bob Hope Who are the biggest chokers? dain11279 985 Posted April 17, 2014 Just read a report on espn.com that said the ratings on the weekend were the lowest they've been since 1993. Not really shocking, no Tiger or Phil and not much back 9 drama. Hell, Saturday was more exciting IMO then Sunday. Cruzer 1,996 Posted April 17, 2014 Just read a report on espn.com that said the ratings on the weekend were the lowest they've been since 1993. Not really shocking, no Tiger or Phil and not much back 9 drama. Hell, Saturday was more exciting IMO then Sunday. We were outside grilling for most of the leaders' back nines We got a glimpse of what major championship golf in the future could look like once Tiger, Phil, Ernie, and rest of the old guard fall off the map. The networks, advertisers, and casual golf fans really need the likes of McIlroy, Fowler, and Spieth to step up and take this game over. It looks bleak now but I have total faith that things will be okay. One thing the history of golf has taugh us is that it always builds on itself - it always replenishes the well once it runs dry. Old Tom Morris passed the torch to the Great Triumvirate in Vardon, Baird, and Taylor. Those guys in turn passed it to Bobby Jones, Gene Sarazen, and Hagen. That well ran dry so golf produced the Big 3 - Hogan, Nelson & Snead. At the end of this run all thought golf had shot its wad - no way the game could top that energy..... Without breaking a sweat, the game of golf then produced, perhaps, the most revered and loved player of all time - Arnold Palmer. As if that wasn't enough - golf Jesus also decided to kick in the greatest champion of all time - Jack Nicklaus. He along with the likes of Gary Player and Trevino took the game to heights never imagined. Towards the tail end of this era the likes of Watson, Crenshaw, Norman, Faldo, and Ballesteros carried the torch. But in 1996 - the era in which we live in now was born - the Tiger Woods era...... TW's time is coming to an end - and when it does, the golf Gods will make sure somebody else ushers us into a time - a time with a new superstar and a new cast of heros. Who are they? No clue - it's possible the new golf messiah is still in grade school. But he will come - always does.

Cruzer 1,996 Posted April 18, 2014 Spieth? Maybe - then again, maybe not. Jordan is the hot flash in the pan right now, but we've seen this time and time before. Anybody remember when Davis Love first started? Back then the talk was this super kid prodigy was going to set the world on fire - breaking records and racking up majors like Halloween candy. With a renowned nationally respected golf coach in his father, a mother who a single digit handicap herself, and the perfect 6'3" frame that launched the ball like nobody had seen before - how could this kid miss? As mentioned earlier - Sergio. He was a can't miss super kid that after the '99 PGA at Medinah the golf world was ready to hand him at least 8 majors. You just never know. Hell - after what he did to Congressional, all thought Rory would be the one to pick up where TW left off. So far McIlroy hasn't exactly lived up to the billing. KSB2424 3,174 Posted April 18, 2014 Regarding the poor ratings, it was a bit unexpected for me but I sometimes have to remember that I'm more than just a casual golf fan. There is going to be a Tiger "hangover" in the game if he is not playing. Couple that with Phil missing the cut and a non eventful back nine and I can see where it was a bit boring for casual golf fan and the ratings were down. Love him or hate him, it cannot be denied. Tiger moves the needle. He brings casual golf fan into the sport, even guys like a NewbieJr who don't play golf may tune in for a hole or two if Tiger is a story. Which is great for the game. He brings in casual golf fan. Once Tiger and Phil get older, there will be a hangover but Golf is bigger than one player. It will rebound and somebody or a group of folks will take the reigns. I really like this Spieth kid. To be 20 years old he is mature for his age and seems focused to be great. Who knows how it all pans out but I feel like he has a great shot to be a multiple major winner.

Cruzer 1,996 Posted April 18, 2014 disagree... think he showed to be a typical 20 yo punk. 1921 Open championship - St. Andrews. A 19-year old Bobby Jones pukes up a 46 on the front nine. He promptly double bogeys #10, then hits it into a bunker on #11. In a fit of rage the young Jones picked up his ball, tore up his scorecard - and headed to the house. I'm by no means comparing Spieth the to late, great Bob Jones - just saying it is possible to turn things around. If Jordan is the 'Next Big Thing' - he just might do that. KSB2424 3,174 Posted April 18, 2014 disagree... think he showed to be a typical 20 yo punk. Punk? Huh? Because he made a couple remarks during a pressure cooker situation in a golf tournmament. He was twice as composed as almost any 20 year old I know who plays golf at the local muni, let alone in a situation like that. I'd wager a days pay you would've acted worse at 20. Let alone give as good of interviews and have as good of perspective as he seems to have at that age. I'm beginning to think some people have only seen Spieth during those couple holes at the Masters where he hit a bad shot, made a remark or dropped his club. Oh the horror!@#! He make a remark!!
