Will we ever see Latavius Murray this year ?

Recommended Posts

If it's not blocking, then the coach is an idiot. I have to admit I haven't watched a raiders game this season so my knowledge of their players is very limited. Most teams end up on my tv with the nfl package but Oakland is not one of them. Red zone doesn't count as that is usually the defense. Lol

There's actually two issues at stake here. Firstly, if the Raiders (and Derek Carr) are going to have any kind of fighting chance to even STAY in a game, they need to have an effective running game. Carr has all kinds of potential, seriously this kid has moxy, but even Elway and Manning struggled as rooks. He needs to concentrate on developing a limited skill set of plays, 3rd and five; 3rd and three type plays, so he can concentrate on just keeping the chains moving. They need to limit what they put on his shoulders, and limit his strikes down the field to first down, and second and short, play action.

The Raider running game right now is the worst in the NFL since the players wore leather helmets. That's not hyperbole either. Watch the tape of that Bolts game and you'll see running lanes that McFragile and Just Done let close up on them, while Murray would burst through decisively. Same blocking, same lanes.

But even if Murray lacks the skill set to be THE guy, Sporano owes it to the franchise and the incoming coaching regime to at least prove it's the case. The 2015 draft will be huge for Oakland, the team needs to know whether it has to draft a running back. If Murray can carry the mail, that allows them to go after offensive line help and build on the Dallas model.

Sporano must be the stupidest f*ck in the NFL, seriously. You're 0-10, floundering... Why not find out what the kid has? This team desperately needs a running game to keep the heat off Carr. They've got the number one pick in the draft, time to start planning for next year.

I start Rainey because i assume since he has shown to be the moat consistent back, he will get touches. Instead lovie actually wants to see what sims has to offer. A situation in oak where the other backs on the team are old as hell and suck, and murray can only get 2 touches.

I scored some prime seats last year for the TCU-WV game, and got a front row view of Charles Sims in action. He is pretty damn good. Once he gets his NFL legs under him, he'll turn Rainey into an afterthought.

Just my opinion.

I think sims is just another back that everyone gets excited about but will prove to be just ok. Murray on the other hand, maybe he isnt tough enough, but he is a rare build for a rb.

Sims has sick hands in the passing game. Sick. If he can be any kind of runner he'll be hard to bring off the field. What makes DeMarco Murray so special is his speed for a big man. He's a 4.43 40 guy while going 6-3 225. Eric Dickerson was in that same mold physically, he just had crazy moves as well. While having similar physical traits, Latavius Murray checks in at 4.37 in the 40. That's pretty fast, and if you were watching the Charger game closely you got an ever so brief look at what that speed can do getting him through the line.

Anyhow, pure conjecture at this point. Hype train leaving the station.

It's not even a hype train. I don't think anyone is saying he's the next coming.
It's a Raiders-are-retarded-this guy isn't 40 yrs old-if he averages >3ypc then Raiders-are-proven-inept-again-train.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about Murray right now. But I'm willing to put a claim in for him before Jonas Gray. Murray has 2 starters in front of him that have absolutely no future with this organization. Murray has the skill set to be a starter, and I think the folks in OAK are finally beginning to realize. In fact, Carr seems like a legit QB prospect who can move the ball down the field. Couple that with a successful run game and you have yourself a pretty good offense. I'm not saying he is going to be a RB2 moving forward, but he has upside to help your team down the stretch.

KC run defense is pretty solid right now. I wouldn't put a claim on Murray before Gray, at this point there's just too much f*ck foolery going on with Oakland coaches. Gray plays for an offense light years better, and he's assured to get goal line carries. Maybe.

Sparano's offenses finished between 3rd and 12th in rushing when he was with MIA & NYJ. I think he wants to run the ball, they need to take pressure off of Carr, they get a rivalry game, it's at home, they are beyond desperate for a win. And they're looking for a hero.

We may see Murray get his shot on TNF.

Bigger role predicted for Raiders RB Latavius Murray

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

(6:19 pm ET) Latavius Murray led Raiders running backs in snaps last week at San Diego, and he's expected to at least split time with Darren McFadden on Thursday against the Chiefs, reports ESPN's Adam Caplan. Murray got more work than normal in practice this week, according to Kaplan.

Murray ran four times for 43 yards and caught three passes for 16 yards against the Chargers. He played 27 snaps, while McFadden played 22 and Maurice Jones-Drew played 10.

I mean the simple fact that he can't beat out MJD or McFadden for ANY playing time is a pretty good indicator that he isn't going to pan out.

Just goes to show u how dumb the coaches are. How do u wait this long to give this kid a shot? When he started in pre season against the Seahawks he looked great.

"The coaches must know something we don't."

Anyone who has ever uttered this sentence should never post again.

Thank you. Probably the dumbest phrase anyone could use, and yet some of the sheeple refuse to believe a coach is fallible.

14 carries 1 concussion

Lol... anybody that saw the hit is laughing at this post. Full on crown of the helmet to the face mask. I'm amazed he even got up.

Still, you've probably got a point to some degree. The kid needs to get low quickly when he gets into the pile, work on dishing out punishment instead of receiving it. DeMarco Murray, who has that same upright style, does that extremely well.

I know people want to jump all over his bandwagon, but please check out the reasons why he was a 6th round pick. The guy is a McFadden clone in terms of injury. He was consistently missing time in college. He also cannot pass block to save his life, even though he isn't a rookie. If there is a hole, or he makes a guy miss, he's gone. Plain and simple. This is the NFL. Once people get use to him, he's going to be as valuable as many other flash in the pan type of guys. I have nothing against the guy, and even own him in some dynasty leagues. That said, I'm more than willing to deal him. lol

14 carries 1 concussion

FYI reports are it was the first one of his career. Sounds particularly mild and precautionary. He looked fine, ne took a shot to the chin which can jolt you. In a street fight, the real damage happens when the guy that got knocked out falls down and since he is out cold his head thwaps on the pavement, and later he dies. I have seen this, and I know a guy who went to Rikers Island for a week, nicest guy in the world, someone grabbed him from behind during a confrontation and he did the haymaker move. Pivot, spin out of it and punch back and he just nailed the guy. Knocked him out. An ambulance came, but he refused treatment, went home, fell into a coma, and died. One punch.

Violence is not a game. One punch, even in self defense ...might land you in jail. It was self defense, everyone said it was self defense ... and the grand jury did not prosecute. Prolly was fine though while in jail.

Inmate 5: Boy ... What you in for?

You: Murder ... I guess ... manslaughter.

inmate 5: You another drunk driver?

You: No, a guy tried to grab me from behind and I spun around and punched him in the temple and he later died from the injury.

Inmate 5: Yeah ... Right dooo.

You: No ... Seriously.

I know this one is a longshot, but I am calling a THREE TD game for him next week. Or maybe like a 2pt conversion and two TDs. Go off, in PPR.

He looked like a man amongst boys for a few seconds there. We all saw it. Cat is out of the bag.

Can he do this on the road in St.Louis? Their run defense is a little better but that didn't stop Mathews. I already plan to have Mason play against the raiders. I think RB2 is between Murray and FJac. Gray, Mathews, and Sims not starting.

If he gets the start and the carries absolutely IMO I think you have to start him over the usual mediocre options at RB2.

The question is will Sparano start him and will he give him the damn rock. Who knows what goes on with coaches sometimes when the best player like this has been on the bench all year, he breaks out with the team's best carries all year and he still won't commit to him. It's insane.

Thomas Jones Syndrome. It's a real sickness.

Thomas Jones Syndrome. It's a real sickness.

Yeah but, there's some obvious reasons you can't give a guy like Jamal Charles 30 carries a game and expect him to hold up. So, you insert Thomas Jones. Veteran plodder. Takes all the hard yardage, keep Charles fresh. It's no secret, or anything, why teams do this. It's smart. Keep your mileage down on your smaller skill backs, like Sproles. Hire Lagarette Blount off the street to run it between the tackles. Put your miles on your big guys that can wear down a defense ... keep your skill guys fresh. Not hard to figure out.

I remember the one big year when Charles and Jones combined was the best RB in the fantasy business. Most weeks I started both of them. Best runnjng game in the league that year, and that was the secret. Jamal charles fantasy owners were going crazy because Jones was vulturing all these yards and TDs ... so, own and start both. Worked well.

Nobody ever thought Demarco Murray could put together the kind of year he has had. Nobody thought he could take the mileage. But, if you want to be a great back in the NFL, one that goes down in history as one of the best, you gotta put in full seasons. Maybe Dallas knew something we didn't, but he is Mr. Durable this year.

Latavius Murray ... similar upright style with good vision, soft hands and obvious speed. I want to see him be able to stay healthy.

Even though he says he's fine, even though I probably have him as active this week, despite what fantasy football people want, rushing Murray back in would be ... a monumental sized mistake, possibly.

I take back my 3 TD prediction. I think they rotate him in, keep him fresh for next week and beyond.

That's what I would do, if I was the coach for the Raiders.
