I'm so unlucky in FF

Recommended Posts

I'm not very this year. I'm 6-6 in both leagues. I may make the playoffs in one and definitely not in the other. I previously mentioned here I traded my Lacy for Megatron and that move may cost me any chance this year. You can see my lineup in my signature. I have great WRs but mediocre everywhere else. If I win this week I'm in so you never know. I may repeat if I don't keep benching the wrong people.

damn, I can't believe you couldn't trade a few of those wr's for help elsewhere

Lol. I tried, but nobody wants to trade with the Champ who they all want dethroned.

At the time of the Lacy trade, I was not nearly as strong at WR. I subsequently picked up Evans, Beckham, And of course Gordon.

I really thought my RBs were good enough and maybe they are, but it surely helps to have a STUD, a guy you can depend on week after week. I don't have that. Mine are all hold your breath type guys. Oh, did I tell you I traded Duke Ellington for Benjamin too? I didn't like his ROS schedule.

I traded the Duke and Lacy. Lol. Now you see why my RBs are weak.

Sorry to read this dude. The only advice I would give is this- I rarely read projection/rankings from the so called experts because they mostly say the same thing and they copy each other so why bother. I've been pretty successful winning 4 championships in the past several years (I play in two leagues only) by listening to my gut, my instincts, look at the match ups, and talk to my friends here at this site for perspective.

People on this site aren't any better informed than anywhere else really. A lot of them are just parroting stuff they hear on ESPN or whatever. Some weeks I will just ignore the chatter and just pick up the best availiable player listed on "through the wire". I will say as a matter of fact, a lot of the advice I acted on from this site hurt me more than helped me for example:

  • Passing on Forsett to pick up Taliaferro because people said Tally was the better back.
  • Not picking up Hillman when he had his productive stretch.
  • Not picking up Sanu because supposedly some other WR would replace him when he was healthy.
  • Telling people to not pick up CJ Anderson because Ball was coming back and would take the carries - Advice which I ignored.
  • Telling people to dump the NE defense after they got blown up by KC in week 4. Ignored that as well, they've had productive spot matchups since then.
  • People were also advocating dumping Brady after week 4, and McCoy...which looking back would have been FF suicide for teams with those players.

Some people who are homers of specific teams offer good advice, but at the end of the day sometimes your gut feeling can guide you. if that's not a good indicator luck plays a huge part in FF I don't know what is.

I think your rbs might be okay, that lacy trade was a b*tch

In all fairness to me, when I made the Lacy trade I believe after week 7, he had only one great week and two weeks he barely got double digits, and he had just put up 13 which made his value rise. The dude needed RB and at the time, I had plenty- ingram was back, Duke Ellington, Mason, Hillman.

To get someone like Megatron for a guy who only went off one week in 7 seemed pretty good to me at that time. It doesn't at THIS time though. Lol

I just think it's sad it didn't work out for you and in the end you ended up with great wrs and didn't need him

Yes, it is sad, but maybe Megatron and Stafford will go off these next Four weeks against Cush teams.

I am the owner of a 2-10 team. My team sucks mainly because I drafted poorly. Sure I had a little injury stuff to deal with, but then again, it's not like I'm the only guy who had injuries either. We all seem to focus on the little things that, had they gone just slightly differently, would have turned a loss into a win. We forget about the times that those little things work in our favor, like that was SUPPOSED to happen.

The one exception is schedule luck. We don't choose our weekly opponents, and since most leagues are head-to-head, theoretically, it's possible to score the 2nd highest point total every week and still go winless. Or get the opposite luck and draw a cupcake schedule. In my league, there's a guy with the 4th highest points scored (which should mean it's a borderline playoff team), but it has the best record in the league at 10-2. This team's points against is by far the lowest in the league.

He's a freak of nature, that's how.

Sure, Beckham is too, but a few of the others have some baggage now too.

Benjamin drops too many and has an erratic qb; Watkins has groin issues, possible bad weather, and an erratic qb; Evans has an erratic qb; and Flash Gordon has possible bad weather and an......erratic qb. Lol

Are you in my league? I am 10-2, but 4th in points scored. The guy in 2nd place in points is out of the playoffs. Of course, I have scored only 10 points less than him during the season. He either scores a monster win or loses a close one.

In our league, if you score over 100 in a given week, you are probably going to win 80% of the time. When I score 100, I am 6-1. When he scores 100, he is 4-2. That is some tough luck, but it is not necessarily the schedule that is making the difference. It is also having less standard deviation and more consistency.

Tough luck. I feel your pain. I'm 7-5, 3rd highest point getter in the league. 6 teams out of 12 make the playoffs and I pretty much must win to get in.

I'm in a tough division with the last place team being 6-6. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw.

Making ff decisions doesn't have anything to do with luck

Making the decision? No, obviously that not luck. Having that decision be right? Lots of luck involved.

So, basically, if I pick the winning numbers for a lottery, I have skill, but if the computer randomly picks the winners for me I am lucky.

Ok, got it.

So what skill was I lacking this week to be going against Tre Mason doing his Marshall Faulk impression in a quarter and half outscoring his entire focking season combined (exaggerated slightly)

I got to get better at this fantasy game.

Exactly! I'm a little surprised I wasn't going against Tre (but I got DeAndre Hopkins instead). It's been happening to me all season starting with Vernon Davis in week one.

I got Brees best game Tre best game and Fleener best game all at 1pm. I mean all WAY better than the norm. Right now I am 2nd best score in my league but will lose. This is the bad luck of matchups I speak of. Oh and Mason has 10pts kicking in first half already.

After this week, 41-11. Top 2 in all 4 leagues.

And as is often the case, dominance all season is rewarded with horrible luck in the playoffs as it seems every opponent player is scoring TDs and mine aren't.

The likes of Blount, Kelce, G Tate, Edleman, R White, Balt, and NE all scoring.

For me, J Nelson, J Stewart, Charles, Cobb, A Brown, and AJ Green not at all.

Awesome.

It takes skill to make the playoffs, but luck to win them.

I have no luck.

So, let me see if I got this right. When you win in the regular season, it's skill. But when you lose in the playoffs, it's just bad luck. That's a convenient delusion.

I think his position is defensible.

Your odds of winning each and every week? Large variable of luck. Putting together a team which wins more than it loses? Product of skill.

I don't buy it. If each week is dependent on luck, winning a series weeks does not suddenly become a great skill. Correctly picking heads or tails on a coin flip 10 time in a row still doesn't mean that any special skill is involved.

Your analogy is bad, as there is nothing whatsoever you can do to affect the odds of a coin toss, and there most definitely is a way to avoid drafting a TE in the first round, and skewering your remaining draft in the process.

Not a perfect analogy, but not bad. Drafting a TE #1 is akin to calling "edge", but that is still not any indication of any skill - simply paying attention and being reasonable. Are you really saying that there was any skill in selecting between McCoy, Charles or Peterson this year?

No. I think there was skill in drafting Benjamin, Evans and Bradshaw at the appropriate times.

A shitty draft won't get you into the playoffs, but there is no guarantee you will get in even with a good draft.

All you can do is your best to mitigate factors that are beyond your control. At a certain point, FF is luck, your team is set, all you can do is put in your best lineup and hope the players perform.

I'm seriously considering a change to total points over h2d. Seems every year is the same, dominant all year as the highest scoring team with the best record only to lose in the playoffs as opponents suddenly get "lucky" with their entire team scoring TDs with a dramatic increase in their point total. Every year. It's like every year I am the 07 Patriots. Getting old.

My opponent had D Jax and Gates today and Emmanuel Sanders status is in question for me with a flu. This would be 0-5 for me in championship games.
