KC Deuce 1 Posted May 29, 2015 I am in the market for a new vehicle and really like the Dodge Avenger. Realistically, I am looking to spend between 10 - 12,000 on the "new" car. I found several in the price range (2013 model) and am curious what people's thoughts are as I cannot say I've ever owned a Dodge. I currently have a Ford Taurus; have always liked that vehicle. Others I like the "style/appearance" in my search: Kia Optima Toyota (Corolla or Camry) Chevy Cruze Any thoughts or experiences (good or bad) ? I really trust the BORED opinion for substantial financial endeavors. How the hell is everyone ? This place has lost some of it's GREAT-ness it appears! KC Deuce 1 Posted May 29, 2015 Never buy a new car. When I say "new," it's NEW to me. I am looking for a used vehicle between 2008 - 2013. Sorry, I should have clarified. More recent gets me a better interest rate with my bank.

More recent gets me a better interest rate with my bank. Wow. That's pretty damn obvious from your post. Can't see how I missed that. Instead of doing something dumb like buying a new car, you are doing what I would do, spending no more than 10-12k on a used one. Eta: It is my understanding the the Chevy Prism and Toyota Corolla were essentially the same car except for the interior. Same engine and body I believe. The prism just had a really cheap interior. The cruze is Chevy's new cheap model, so maybe it is still a Corolla with a cheap interior.
MDC 7,151 Posted May 29, 2015 I had a Dodge Stratus that I liked a lot: No problems and well designed. I would absolutely not buy a Kia - total POS. If you're going to go used and foreign, a few years back I bought a used Hyundai Element for $9K with only 32,000 miles on it. Never had a problem with it, runs great. Eaglesin14 12 Posted May 29, 2015 Kia and Hyundia are the same vehicles owned by the same company. Hyundai just has some more upscale models. Also, Honda makes that Mom mobile Element, not Hyundai.
Magnificent Bastard 190 Posted May 29, 2015 I was doing work at a garage a few months back and I asked the owner what was the worst car out there. He said none of them are anymore, you may get a lemon, but as far as a brand being inferior he said none of them can really operate like that anymore. He praised the Kia Optima. Too much competition and the warrantees are too long now to be producing junk. take it for what it's worth. I now have two Fords and I'm a satisfied customer. Never bought a new American car until 2010.
KC Deuce 1 Posted May 29, 2015 People I have spoken with said KIAs "used" to be horrible; they said anything since about 2008 and above are pretty good. I am not sold on that of course. Appreciate the responses . . . hoping for some more.
Djgb13 2,339 Posted May 29, 2015 KIAs remind me of the car version of IKEA. I think you're better off with a honda. It's reliable and the resell values are pretty good

The Corolla is the correct car to buy.

DankNuggs 305 Posted May 29, 2015 The optima is nice, most of Kia/Hyundai blows the equivalent completion out of the water. I'd personally buy and 07-12 Honda civic Si in that price range because it is buckets of fun to row the gears and the car is absolutely bulletproof.

lickin_starfish 1,893 Posted May 30, 2015 My wife had an Avenger, and she liked it. It never had any mechanical problems. It was zippy and had nice styling. I personally wouldn't buy a Japanese car, no matter how many hipsters on here are crowing for them. Remember Pearl Harbor.

Djgb13 2,339 Posted May 31, 2015 Just curious, why would being a mechanic be something that would made fun of? I don't think they should be made fun of. They're the ones who fix my vehicles when they break down. I can change my own oil and do a few oter things but I'm no expert on engines or cars in general. It's a useful skill and they will always have a need for them

Nice car but when it breaks it costs a focking sh1tload to repair. It's pretty reliable but still, repairs do happen and it hurts like hell when they cost you through the nose. I will not be buying another Volvo when I'm done with this one even though it is a good car.
