Fan Duel Verification?

Recommended Posts

Fan Duel is now asking its players to verify or they are not allowed to play. The verification is asking for social security or id with birthday on it. Has anybody complied with it? I don't know it sounds iffy.

I threw a hissy fit and demanded my cash out.

verify your ID with information they don't have yet? They are trying to fish your personal info. Don't cave. Compare my photo ID with the one they don't even have on file??

Fock of fanduel

I heard they were just trying to verify that you aren't in one of the places where it's illegal to play. Is it NY and Nevada now?

Wow. They are likely claiming it's to comply with new laws. But yeah. Cheap tactics to make more money.

They do have restrictions to comply with, so they do need to verify you're identity and your place of residence as best they can. You certainly don't have to give it to them... and don't have to play.

Oh I don't. Never have. But it's naive to think they won't sell that info. That's not illegal either, just something else I don't like about them.

Well, if you think transmitting electronically your name, birthday, address and SSN is a good idea please send me a PM with that info.

I just saw that. There is no way they are getting my SS number..

And I just tried to deposit on Draft KIngs and it won't let me. This little pink box pops up and disappears. I'm in NY so that could be the problem.

I got no freaking action.

Go get a credit card. Hack into email, steal a twitter account.

Call a customer service rep, "I've forgotten my password to my account, but I have my ssn and home address here." Helpful people will help, even when they aren't supposed to. Easy thief move.

So the DFS doesn't steal your ID. They just have it on file to get hacked, sell it to other companies who get hacked, or just sell it and your inbox gets loaded with even more spam. Your info is more valuable than your money online.

In addition to worries that they will sell your info, it's just one more database where all your info is there for hacking.

I didn't think you were serious. But others seem to think it's not a big deal.

You dont have to give them your ss#. Its not a required field. The rest of the info is pretty standard for account registration.

So I won a couple of bucks on Fanduel last night and asked to withdraw my funds, and the verification screen pops up. I give them all my info BUT SS#, and it says I haven't been verified. Get into an email exchange with them, and in order to withdraw funds without giving them my social I need to close out my account permanently. In order to keep my account open and withdraw, I need to provide a SS#. I told them I would give them my info if and when I win over $600, and they said too bad, that is their policy.

Anyone know if DraftKings is pulling this BS?

I am withdrawing and closing, BTW. No way these guys have proven they are trustworthy or competent enough to keep my information secure.

ALL DFS sites will eventually require identity verification. It's the only way they will stay in business due to regulation.

Draftkings does not CURRENTLY ask for SSN. The second they do, I'll do the same to them as I did for Fanduel. Leave.

If they haven't, have you won any real money, over $600?

Win big in a casino and sure as shooting, they will get your SSN if you want the cash.

That's different than what Fanduel is currently doing. They're not letting anyone play w/o that verification. So if I'm a new account, I have to give them my SSN just to gamble $20? Nawwww.

Sure if I win that amount I will gladly give the info for the 1099-MISC...but until then, they aren't having any information on me outside of my initial sign-up data and a paypal acct.

A SS# was never meant to be used for identification purposes. What does it verify? Not where I live currently but where I was born, or where I was when I got a SS#.

People willingly give out information that others have no right to ask for. Doctors offices always ask for a SS# and I never give it to them and I still get seen.

Draft Kings required my SS# because I cashed out after winning a fairly serious amount. Didn't find that unusual because of reporting requirements.
