****Official 90s Music Draft Thread**** (Complete)

Recommended Posts

The rest of my draft is bands I want a song from. The song is negotiable (I dont think any will be chosen.) the band is not.

Interesting, I took the opposite strategy. I just wrapped up bands/albums I wanted a song from, the rest of the way is just songs I like. Plus my last round obscure song which I've already picked.

Two of my last four are pretty big bands that I could easily go five deep on and not care. So I was cool leaving them till late. And one is a deep cut anyway.

One is a somewhat well known band but I dont see them getting picked, and if so, the backup by them is fine too.

The last pick is a band Im curious to see if anyone else has ever heard of. I love them, have like nine albums of theirs, but they are not well known. And most will think its ghey as hell.

Not surprising... I get to take the first shoegaze band off the board... I got to see them with wifey last fall after this thwir album on 20 years and they were absolutely amazing. It was surreal being able to see a band you were to young too be around for thought you would never see and bam they get back together.

This 11th rounder is pretty much the end of the road with me. I'm glad I made it this far. I can see the end of the draft now.

I hate the music of this decade. With one exception, a remake of a 70s song, all my songs have been from 1990 and 1991 (maybe some 92). When I got back from Germany with the Army in 1992, I was wholly disappointed and tuned out the decade. I reverted to listening 70s and 80s music on the Detroit classic rock radio stations. The music I liked was obsolete and I wasn't even 21 years old yet.

What penetrated the bubble was some country songs. I also feel bad that I've gone three drafts and not taken a black artist yet so that'll change. I'll close out the draft with three country songs, a black artist, and my obscure 16th rounder that I hope you'll give an ear to. You won't find any rap or gunge on my list as there's enough of that on everybody else's.

I was wrong when I said I had all of my albums covered; I forgot Pearl Jam Ten. There was a huge early run in this draft, but one of my favorites hadn't been selected.

I know this seems like an anti Pearl Jam place but man...11th round for this song? Id take it over Alive and Jeremy any day. I basically flipped a coin between this and Yellow Ledbetter. Had it not been picked its early on my not drafted list.

Thanks... I put Black in the Mount Rushmore of songs from Ten with Alive, Jeremy, and Even Flow. I'm not going to argue one over the other (OK, Jeremy is maybe the most powerful IMO), but all songs need to be here.

Also love Ledbetter and another song which I'm not sure has been taken, from later albums.

I never got into grunge, except Pearl Jam, and specifically this album. I still remember hearing a few of these songs at my gym and digging them, and eventually having the epiphany that they were from the same band. Ran out and got this CD, played the crap out of it.

Same. More of a 6th-7th rounder to me at worst.

As I said before, even though this song makes 2 from the same band on my team, I like it more than any of the rest on my list. Frankly, Iike it more than about 90% of whats been selected in this entire draft.

Voltaire, I know you werent big into grunge rock, but this is sorta elevated grunge and being a Vet, you might appreciate it and its backstory.

Like Volty said the 60s draft cant come quick enough. There was some decent music in the 90s but not like the other drafts weve had. Not even close.

I didn't recognized it when you posted it but the lyric:

It was in the air. "Here they come to snuff the Rooster" is something I do remember from back in the day .

If I'd known that it was an ode to Vietnam veterans before now. I would have tuned in closer back then. I hate to say this but back in the day, I'd not paid it much attention or listened to it all the way through. I only do so now, because I read your link first. Since it has the deep grunge sound to it, it would have made me change stations or not pay it much attention before the message registered.

I have the same problem but ten times worse with Eminem. The man's the same age and from the same place as I am, he had the same experiences growing up as me, made a movie called 8 Mile, a road which I am extremely familiar with as I grew up right there, between 8 Mile and 9 Mile. The other roads name dropped in the movie I knew. I had delivered pizza in the trailer park where the movie would later be filmed. When I was substitute teaching, it was in Lincoln School District, south Warren, which I know he attended and sang about. The movie hits home, fock though, I can't make the connection with his music since I don't like the genre. To this day, whatever songs he sang about growing up there along 8 Mile, I've never heard but wouldn't mind giving an ear to.

I think the reason I like AIC so much is because it may be classified as grunge, but it has a metal edge.

Meaning that, their music shows a lot more musicianship than the typical grunge band. Pearl Jam displayed hints of that as well but when I listen to it all now, AIC just sounds more like hard rock than anything else.

With Bunny making the picks I'm back in the balcony. I'm itching to get back in the game. The 60's is going to great. She's loving the draft, but she's going to have her own team and me mine. I'm not sharing the 60s. I have my list ready to go. I just have to figure out how to rank them.

You may not remember the song by title or the band by name, but I guarantee you know the movie scene it came from. Its the best song on an otherwise stellar soundtrack, but this song also stands on its on merit, without Salmas help. Give it a listen.

Yeah well... maybe not. Not offense (and by that I mean offense) but, I already wasn't that into you grabbing a spot in this draft and giving it to your girl who doesn't post here. The idea is for us to get to know each other better through our musical tastes. Now you want to have a spot for both yourself and her in the 60s draft? I'm not for that, sorry. You can have a spot. She got her run in this one. :dunno:

Jerry's against it. There's a surprise. Anyone else? Also I have been active during the draft so it's not like you aren't getting to know me. And how much time have you spent updating the song lists?

Sorry you think I'm a d1ck, I think I made my point in my previous post which you completely ignored. If you'd like me to clarify something let me know. Or perhaps I'll have my wife, two daughters, and son get a team in the 60s draft, because I'm confident you care about their taste in music.

I appreciate what youve brought to the drafts and the work you and all the other geeks have put into running them.

But, I do think these drafts are best kept to regular posters. I believe shotsup set that ground rule up front in the 80s draft.

Were all pretty much strangers anyway, but we have zero point of reference for your gf, and I suspect we wouldnt see her again after the draft.

No skin off my sack either way.

whats interesting is that most people actually think Selma was topless in that scene

That is interesting. No need for her to toss the top. We can see plenty.

A phenomenal artist who needs to be in this draft. I was between this and a few songs from a band already represented, I figured I'd add somebody new. As in the past she maybe has a more popular song, but this is my favorite song of hers. Lots of artists write songs about breakups; these lyrics are amazing.

12.03 Foolish Games - Jewel

Live version:

and she is still very easy on the eyes to this day:
