vuduchile 1,941 Posted April 16, 2018 Cashed out SB winnings back in March. They sent me a check, I deposited it. Today, my account says that Canadian item was returned unpaid because the account was closed. What are the chances I ever see that money?
Kanil 519 Posted April 16, 2018 I'd put it near 100% with Bovada. Call them up and . Might even get something extra out of it.

Just curious That's why I stopped using them, take my money in US dollars, charge a fig and then pay me in Canadian dollars that take months to exchange and then cost me more with the exchange rate

I had an ATS bet, an O/U bet game plus some props. Id have to go back and try to calculate it. The rubber check they sent was in US Dollars. Did they calculate the exchange before paying me out then? The check they sent was in Canadian Dollars, which is why I was surprised when you said you deposited it, your bank can't, they have to send it to their exchange office who then contacts the Canadian Bank to start the exchange process an of course your bank is going to charge you for that as well. My last check was for $1000.00, took 6 weeks to have the funds deposited into my account and after the exchange rate and my bank fees was only $
listen2me 23 1,542 Posted April 16, 2018 Bodog has always sucked. But that said all of the online sites seem like a waste of time to me. Just the sheer number you have to bet times your initial deposit seems annoying. I havent looked into them in a while. Any out there that dont have a ridiculous number you need to bet in order to deposit?

But why wouldnt my bank just tell me that at some point after I made the deposit? The message I received today was: Canadian item returned unpayable-account closed. Nothing about the needing to exchange. Looks like I need to make a trip to the bank now.

Yea, if you deposited it in the drive thru the teller probably didn't know any better and deposited it, the funds would have shown available but then when the bank realized what happened they would contact you and the money would no longer show up in your account. Nothing about the needing to exchange. Looks like I need to make a trip to the bank now. it is possible that the check was canadian but payable through a US bank, in which case it wouldn't need to go through exchange collections or whatever. I've had that happen before. but yeah, if its actually canadian and not payable through a US institution, your bank might not have realized on the spot (they should refund you any bounced check fee since it was their mistake) and then you woulod go about having it sent for collection / exchange and eventually deposited to your account. vuduchile 1,941 Posted April 16, 2018 Tired of the Mickey Mouse crap Casinos and lotteries all around here where people waste untold millions on slots and scratch offs. But I gotta fly to Vegas or navigate thru the online hassles just to put $100 on the Browns? Stupid.

WhiteWonder 2,172 Posted April 16, 2018 Just got a copy of the original check from the bank It clearly states it was issued in U.S. Funds Returned unpaid for acct closed. Issuing bank is Royal Bank of Canada - US Dollar account. this makes sense and was my first scenario above. you should be able to contact/complain to bovada. i've never had to send a check from a gambling site for collections. they usually take care of all the internatonal stuff themselves so I get my payout in USD. So why are the writing checks from closed accounts? And why are they closing US Dollar accounts? Or is the bank closing them for some reason?
WhiteWonder 2,172 Posted April 16, 2018 So why are the writing checks from closed accounts? And why are they closing US Dollar accounts? Or is the bank closing them for some reason? this I have no idea. I don't use bovada. i would assume these places have a multitude of channels they go through to get your money and pay you out. could have just been a random error on their end or bad timing that they wrote you a check from an account that needed to be closed for legal reasons. it feels like burner phones and drug dealers in a way. remember these are bank accounts being used for offshore gambling. Banks don't usually do business with gambling businesses so someone is likely opening the accounts under the guise of another business. I would guess that every so often their accounts get closed and they need to use another of the hundreds they probably have set up.
GobbleDog 816 Posted April 16, 2018 Back when I used Bovada (bodog) about 10 years ago, I never had a problem. Seemed like I always got a few dollars more after the exchange.?. There's a lot of reasons not to use Bovada (god awful odds and piss poor betting options), but not getting paid was never one of them.
WhiteWonder 2,172 Posted April 16, 2018 So why are the writing checks from closed accounts? And why are they closing US Dollar accounts? Or is the bank closing them for some reason? also I should note that they are likely not closing US Dollar accounts. They are using a canadian based account, it's just that the account and therefor your check is payable through a US based bank. If you look somewhere on the check, it should say 'payable through' and list the financial institution and location. also the routing number on the check will have, I think 9 digits.
