Saquan Barkley

Recommended Posts

Did anyone try to dissect his runs at all? I thought he did well with the limited amount of space to run. He was hit in the backfield multiple times. He could have probably been a little better at taking what was given, but I didn't see anything that shows there is a real problem with him as a runner. If anything he showed the athletic freak he is. It was a good defense he faced.

I was debating offering the David Johnson owner Barkley for Johnson straight up, as the owner of Johnson said he almost took Barkley at 4. I do already own Johnson in another league though, and think keeping my teams a little more diverse will be the safest bet. I have all the faith in Johnson as he is a top end athlete at RB also. I do feel like the long TDs are going to happen often this year for Barkley. It just happens with those freak athletes who only need a few touches to break one, except here is a situation where we know he is going to touch the ball 20 times a game.

Any differing views? I saw some say Well this is who he is. Do you really think it was because of Barkley, or was it because of the line blocking for him? It's probably just going from one horrible oline to another.

Like Barkely a lot.

I think he will make that team better.

I would keep him.

The defense he faced wasn't just good, it's outstanding. I watched a large chunk of that game and it's important to keep the opponent in mind, and also keep in mind that the guy played almost nothing in the preseason. He is facing his first REAL NFL defense, and it's probably the best one out there, and he had very little help from anybody else, and their offensive line isn't great. I honestly believe he's a top 5 back, his skills were off the charts. Power, speed, shifty, decent (not great) hands, and most importantly, he blocks pretty well. That means he'll be on the field a lot. I think his stock his headed up and at this point I might rather him long term than David Johnson.

That Jags D-line is scary and I was impressed the Giants were able to move the ball as good as they did. Barkley took what was given almost every time and did a pretty good job just to be averaging 2.3 YPC in the first half. The TD run was a thing of beauty and he broke at least 3 tackles before he got loose. I think he is going to live up to the hype.

He was up against a tough Defense. I actually was expecting a subpar season opener. So the fact that he did anything at all was impressive. even if most of that came in one run.

Getting rid of Barkley would be a mistake. You are looking at 5-10 rushes this year of 40+.

To be fair it would only be for DJ. I think he seems like a good buy low if there ever is such a thing for him

Ok. So Barkley breaks one tackle a game and maybe gets a long score. Manning throws for 200 yards a game and the giants lose 14 games this year. This is what Barkley did in college and is who Manning is as a QB. Have fun with that.

Someone piss in your cheerios this morning?

I don't have high hopes for their overall record, but after enduring the 2017 season it's nice to have an exciting young player to root for.

I'd keep Barkley, but that trade is reasonable in a PPR league.

No. I just think the Giants shouldn't be drafting RBs at #2 when they need a QB. Manning is flat out bad.

don't let good ol seafoam get you down, he hates the Giants, probably because he lives in NJ and the Giants fans annoy him with all their talk about future hall of fame QB Eli Manning and his 2 Super Bowl Rings

I mean, the one thing Jets fans and Pats fans agree on is that Eli is the worst human being who has ever breathed air. (And probably also that Curtis Martin was pretty good.)

My friends are in Chicago. My girlfriend is from Texas. I work out of state. Don't ask me why I am here. I hate NJ. I hate NY teams. But sports is entertainment and that is all. I don't care if Bell gets paid. I don't care if Manning gets a broken leg in game 2 this year. I don't care that Brady is going to win another superbowl this year. I'm just happy the Bears are getting better, the Cubs are still in the playoff race, the Blackhawks won 3 Cups in 6 years, I still have a good job, have my health, and the Giants will continue to lose. :)

So what do you have to do, like stack ten of those things they call an east coast slice of pizza together to get something resembling good pizza? :)

I do not eat the pizza here. And I'm seriously not being a snob about it. I am not like that about food. I just hate droopy wet crust and bland toppings. I do however love driving to Portland, Maine, Matunuck, Rhode Island, Baltimore, MD, and Washington D.C for some of the best food on the east coast. Especially at this exact time of year. Seafood.

Ah, that explains it. You're grumpy this morning because - Aaron Rodgers. That was some game huh? Even a churlish guy like you has to admire that performance.

I don't like the pizza here at all, but if you like it, more power to ya. And if anyone wants to talk about beef sandwiches, I'm snobby in that area. Chicago rules.

I have been satisfied with East coast pizza being a Chicago guy. Still, the crust more often then not is drippy. My gf always complains about not enough sauce on the pizzas in MD. I told her that's rarely a problem in Chicago,

Oh, I never said anything bad about Rodgers. HOF ready. I'm just sick of the Bears being so bad as to not having any hope even 6 months before the season starts. Finally change seems to be here.

I'm totally bullish on your Bears this season. Is that an oxymoron?

"Manning is flat out bad." Er, what? I was watching the ticker at the bottom of the screen, and he was 10-for-10 to start the game. Against a Top-2 (the Top?) pass defense from last year!

Here in the middle west, plenty of bakeries seem to ignore the step of boiling the bagels. So you get a roll with a hole. But there are a few places. For a chain, Brueggers actually serves up a pretty good bagel. They just don't have egg :(

Oh man. Yeah, East Coast has some great seafood. Now I'm hungry. I mean, only NOLA knows how to really eat an oyster (char-broiled), but the East Coast has most everything else down pat, including crab cakes.

BUT...you are in NJ, which means you can get pork roll. Maybe the best reason to go to that state.

Good point on the pork roll. I'll need to do my homework.

And if you want to talk real very awesome great lobster rolls and oysters, Delaware and Maine in August. Crab cakes in Baltimore in August.

Or even just go to Bertha's Mussells in Fells Point for that delicious food item, but haven't been to that place in a while.

Fells Point. I'll make a note. The thing about the East Coast is, ime, they let the seafood itself do a lot of the talking. Sometimes Old Bay usages is excessive, but I'm guilty of that at home too :) NOLA seafood (which I'm very familiar with) is great, but NOLA food is often more heavily seasoned. Sometimes, just letting a mussel be a mussel is a good idea.

If we're dissecting mussels:Riesling, butter, garlic and shallots. Let's do it the right way.

If we're dissecting Barkley: hurdles, high-speed deep run with tackles broken, top defense made to look slow. Great first game, only going to get better.

Mussels in butter, white wine, with garlic. Mmmm...

I like Old Bay best on french fries.

I was on a project in NOLA for about a year. Flew in weekly. Great place to visit but man, it is difficult to eat there 4 days a week for multiple months and not die of a heart attack. Or liver failure.

Either one is good with wine (I'm sure Barkley is a good conversationalist). I'd go with a dry Reisling if I could, otherwise that's just fine.

Old Bay is fantastic on pork, btw. Grilled chops with OB, maybe some black pepper. Oh man.

NOLA is tough to eat healthy in if you only go with creole or cajun and the traditional stuff. But both of those have good soups that are healthy--seafood gumbo, for example. There's also a ton of good Vietnamese places in town doing healthier stuff. Dammit. I'm really hungry now.

Seafood is salty because the Bears finally got a big game and choked it away in front of the country.

Personally, I like a drier white. And a lot of it in the mussel broth, but that's just me.

Barkley could use a little less dancing around when the situation calls for it. He nearly got nailed for a safety when he was trying to jump--cut at the goal line coming out of the endzone.

Seafood? Oooohhh, I see what you did there!! You changed my screen name from "seafoam" to "seafood". Wow, what a burn. I am sooo left without words.

Man, you got me good on that one. Whoa... not sure if I can recover. Hohohoooo...And then you used 'salty'. Wow! What play on words that was.

Both true. Especially the behind the line of scrimmage stuff. Biggest knock on Saquon will be the tendency to swing for the fences. If he can just reel it in a touch and learn to take what's there he's going to have a long productive career. In terms of fantasy, as long as Shurmur doesn't penalize him for those larger losses he can dance all he wants if he's finding homeruns on a regular basis. But it will wear thin with HC if he's turning 2 yard gains into 4 yard losses trying to reverse the field on a regular basis. He'll figure it out.
