This is a great point that I really hadn't thought of.  We've probably had super killer pathogens throughout history, but due to limited travel, they would just kill an entire village and disappear.  Nowadays if one just gets itself to an urban center... could be poof!

Eh...I don't know. 

The plague was spread by trade/travel. Lasted hundreds of years. 

Ebola is a super killer, but I think there is LESS travel from those countries where it spreads so quickly. That's why when it gets here, it's not like EVERY where.
