Why do calendars start with Sunday

Recommended Posts

First, isn't Sunday supposed to be the Sabbath (not the first day). Secondly, shouldn't Saturday and Sunday be side by side.

I'm sure someone here will provide an answer ... or make one up.

I always thought it was dumb too.......MONDAY starts the week, Sunday is a day of rest after the week has passed.

My beef is, why can't it be the same time around the globe?

and daylight savings, don't even get me started

It’s easier to figure out what time it is somewhere else than to figure out where the sun is in the sky somewhere else.

There are two ends of the week, a front end and a back end. Sunday is the front end, Saturday is the back end.  :dunno:

Ancient Egyptians set the calendar we use.  The first day of the week was the day of the sun, named for the sun god Ra.  Romans kept the tradition.  Christians then also kept the tradition, as on the first day, God said let there be light.  So the first say is the sun day, or sunday.
