I honestly don't have an issue with this and it kind of makes sense especially since they want this to be a stand-alone movie...

Meh. The movie is and always was going to be associated with the “toy story” universe of movies.

perfect example being me not knowing a damn thing about the plot and assuming it was a story about the life of the character the toy was made for. That first toy story was a part of my childhood and that’s the connection I immediately made with a movie titled Buzz Lightyear  

If they made a standalone Woody movie, it would be the same way. They can want it to be a separate thing but it won’t make it so. There are parents watching with their kids who grew up when those movies came out. The kids have either already seen them or will be seeing them after watching this…Would have been better off with Tim Allen and capitalize even more off the nostalgia.
