I do not have a problem with him. As a matter of fact, why weren't the other people involved charged? I just feel like he was overzealous. He killed him!!!! Are you serious???? He didn't kill him.  The dude was alive when the cops got there and when the paramedics did too.  The cops didnt give any CPR to the dude.  But even assuming the choke did kill him, the question is whether his actions were reasonable and if he intended to kill him.  The jury, who heard far more evidence than you or I have, decided his actions were reasonable and that he did not intend to kill.  And that was in liberal NYC with a jury that included four POC.  Try thinking critically for once and take your emotions out of it.

The ME testified that the choke killed him.  He was brain dead when the paramedics arrived, they couldn't do anything.  There is no disputing he killed him.  The only question is was he guilty as charged and the jury decided no

As you said, nobody knew his background.  He could have been a model citizen having a bad day.  Or he could have been a homicidal maniac who was about to pull a gun out and start shooting people.  This is why we have the concept of legal assault:
