Hundreds protest for second day, say UW-Madison response to racist video is insufficient

Hundreds of UW-Madison students and faculty gathered at the bottom of Bascom Hill Thursday afternoon as they again protested against what many still see as a flawed response from the university’s administration to a racist viral video from earlier this week.

In the video, a white woman — believed to be a UW-Madison student — flung racial slurs and stated she wants to see some Black people returned to slavery so she can abuse them.

Dressed in black at the request of student group Blk Pwr Coalition, students protested by again chanting anti-racist sentiments, blocking the sidewalks on Library Mall by linking arms and closing down streets around the university as they marched. But the event also featured music, food trucks and spoken word poetry.

Blk Pwr Coalition students presented a list of demands to Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin on Wednesday morning and gave her until Thursday morning to respond. Mnookin met the group’s deadline, but the group, frustrated by that response, led a protest for a second consecutive day, as many students felt the response did not include any repercussions for the student in the video and lacked specificity for actions going forward.

In her response, Mnookin reiterated the apology she gave students Wednesday, expressing regret for the pain the video had caused for students. She also asked for future meetings with student leaders and said she was directing more mental health services to affected students and was telling instructors to grant students “grace and flexibility” in finishing assignments and finals as the end of the semester nears.

You know what solves all this?  MANDATORY Infantry service at 18 in the Marines or Army - 4 years active duty minimum.  Men AND women.  Extended duty if you become a problem.  No enlisting in Coast Guard, Navy or Air Force.  Army or Marines - that's it.  College comes AFTER 4 years of service.

I made it in Lincolns lap with a girl I knew from our years together in Junior High.  Met up one night outside Rocky Rococo's Pizza.  Had not seen each other in years.  We always sort of had it for each other but the timing never worked out.  I was walking her back to one of the lakeshore dorms.  She suggested the "stop".  It was a good night.  Walking up that hill towards Lincoln got me thereafter.

These same people were extremely quiet when a group of black people attacked a white lady on the street as she tried entering her apartment. Lots of videos of blacks being extremely racist yet not only are these people silent but also the black perpetrators in these incidences didn’t have any repercussions

I'd like to hear the rant itself to determine if it's racist or not but it seems it's been scrubbed. A lot of times these things turn out to be nothing. Wisconsin-Madison is where the skyscreamers found a rock to be racist after all. Not to say that it's not racist, just want to see what set them all off is legitimately racist or not.

Morons at that school protest for cop killers and they even found a large rock to be racist and had it removed at quite some effort. The thing is that maybe/conceivably they can actually come across something that actually resembles racism. They've presented a few second video snippet of a crying chick making racially charged slurs and are holding rallies condemning her, wanting her booted off campus. More context would be appreciated.
