Scientist replicate nuclear fusion breakthrough 3 times.

If you truly had unlimited free energy, you're correct that it would be a significant advancement.

But you guys get that no development entity is going to allow anyone but themselves to own the IP for this technology right?  These companies will just charge everyone for the power and say they need to charge some amount that is suspiciously close to what we pay now in order to cover development costs.  Then when they have a monopoly on power all of the sudden this "free" power is going to have a bunch of maintenance and NRE costs associated with it that we all have to pay for.

It just occurred to me that some of you might think this is like in back to future when Doc just drops some soda and some old banana peels in his Mr. Fusion reactor hanging off his Delorean.

This isn't anywhere even close to that.

I think this is a great start to green energy, but let's be honest, this won't happen until the powers that be can find a way to attack it on the "Climate Change" activist witch hunt and politicians/fossil fuel owners get their "cut".

I think @nobody nailed it with the countries who's entire existence is predicated on the sale of fossil fuels.  You think terrorism is bad from the Middle East, just wait until their main source of income gets cut off completely.

This source of energy isn't "decades" away, it's every bit of "centuries" away from being implemented.  You're kidding yourself if you think that your grandkids will ever see this in their everyday lives.

It's a huge competitive advantage so there would be resistance to sharing it.

The energy consumption of bitcoin mining becomes a complete non-issue

The revenue streams of the middle east dry up and those nations whither and die.  They'll be back to chopping each other's heads off as their primary industry.  Except Iran has nukes, so as the famines start setting in, and the governments destabilize, the US will have to step in and fight a war to disarm them.

Space travel will become more efficient as fusion reactors will power rockets.

As harnessing fusion becomes more attainable, weapons will become more lethal.  We can probably expect China to strap something to a hyper sonic, so the US will have to do it first.  My expectation is a new level of arms race will follow.

For countries that do have sustainable energy, containing the reaction is huge problem.  Someone will mess that up and the first few reactors will destroy themselves.  This will cause the government to regulate it to death.

Law of unintended consequences.  I'm sure we'll figure out a way to destroy ourselves with this wonderful achievement.

I've wondered how they make sure they contain the reaction.  Obviously the smart people working on this have thought about it as well, but during the development of fission for the bomb they had to be very, very careful to not start an uncontrollable chain reaction.

I very much hope that the people doing such analyses are the very best in their fields, and not diversity hires.  :o

I had not realized how entrenched some people were in their anti-renewables stance, until this thread.

I had not realized how much some people are entrenched in creating straw men and making sh#t up - until I read your post.

Almost all of our current problems will be solved. World hunger and poverty, a thing of the past.

You really sound like quite the moron. Congrats? —————- really ugly comment by you

I would love to see poverty a thing of the past but unfortunately this isn’t how the world works

No, really, it’s helpful. Thank you.

I would have assumed that if we could completely solve our energy and emissions problems, that everyone would immediately jump for joy regardless of political parties or beliefs.

But that was naive of me, and this thread has brought that home. The challenge is always so much greater than you appreciate, so thanks for reminding me of that

Why would anyone be against renewable energy?

You don't even understand what the technology is.  You think people are going to have fusion reactors in their homes.

It's crazy how you perceive things in your mind that you THINK are happening but actually aren't happening in reality at all.  Almost as if you were TOLD to support a specific narrative despite facts and reality.

He also thinks men can become women by simply declaring it too.  So, yeah, he (and his party) don't even believe in science and biology so technology would be off the list completely.

Not only do you believe that, you vote for people who do and belong to a party that also believes that.  Sure, you tell us you don't believe that. Go ahead. Tell us with a straight face.

We may not need wires.

Something in Tesla's work I missed.  I am a big fan of him having powered up lights in Colorado Springs without wires but as far as i know that was never reproduced.

Guess that just makes you a liar then :(

Renewables seem to lack the fundamental oomph to be the primary source of power for large metro areas.  Complimentary, sure.  Of course, technologies advance, but it would take some revolutionary development to make it happen.

Nuclear has that power and more, even current fission power.  I have often said here that the lack of embracing nuclear is a sure reason to believe that the climate alarmists don't really want to solve the climate problem.  Because if they did, we could pretty much do it with nuclear today.

They’ve always been afraid of nuclear waste and possible nuclear accidents. And that’s a reasonable concern. But fusion doesn’t create any waste.
