I dont think its that hard to believe.  Tons of these people aren't gutted over ability to vote.  If you handed thrm all an ID for free and a lollipop, many arent going to vote without being carried there and told what to do.  

Should everyone have the right to vote?  Sure.  Do we need to coddle and hold the hand of every bum who doesn't try in life themselves?  No.  

Many of these non ID people don't give a shlt about what they need to do in life to survive or succeed.   But they are distraught that they can't place a vote at a place they won't even go unless carried there and given free stuff?  Doubt it. 

Voting in big cities isn't sincere.   Its how many people can we get to the polls or mail in that we can just tell what to do.  

This whole "right to vote" is really hilarious when you consider what they do in these cities to get these votes in.

Yup, if you can't be bothered to get an ID, I doubt voting is high up the priorities list.

It's a silly argument to suggest that anybody would be truly disenfranchised by requiring ID.

But there are problems: 

1. Everytime there is an incident involving white police and young black males, conservatives side with the police. Every. Damn. Time. No matter what the circumstances most conservatives blame the black youth. In this forum the murderer of George Floyd, who was convicted by a unanimous jury, is regarded as a political prisoner. 
 

2. The leader of the Republican Party is proposing that police be allowed to act any way they choose without consequence. 
 

There are plenty of other issues with regard to economics, voting and justice that would cause most black voters to stay alighned to the Democratic Party. But the above are, I believe the main reason that they will.

You can get ID without it being a DL.  My daughter thought about doing it when she moved to NY recently since she doesn't drive there, but I convinced her to get the DL for times like this week when she is back home.

There are 258M adults in the US; 36M would be 14%.  I cannot believe that that many people don't have ID.

Also I looked up ID requirements for SNAP; the internet varies on answers.  One site claimed you can do it without ID but it is a pain in the ass, and also may vary by state.  The AZ site for assistance provides no such alternatives -- you need ID.

yeah, 14% does seem a little high. the 7m # does seem low to me. I would more tend to believe people without a DL do not have a different ID. some but not many.

This is where I will sometimes drift.  How might you setup a system that would pointedly harm a specific set of people.  I look at Chicago, New York and Baltimore and the outcomes they face and think.....well, that is one way to treat people you hate......

As far as schools go, you can’t expect better results without real accountability. And that’s just not going to happen in an employee controlled structure, and with parents that can’t be held accountable. So it will continue. You gotta break up the giant school districts. It’s crazy to think that a monster like the NYC schools can be controlled by one central authority, that in turn is controlled by the people they are supposed to be holding to account.

I am less critical when it comes to schools.   Bad kids arise from bad parenting, and no matter how much money you throw at a school or how good those teachers are, overcoming bad parenting is as much luck as anything else.

I think school choice could help, but it might simply elevate the better kids out and just focus the worst kids together.  In terms of a solution it might not be the best.

Lowering standards is implicitly and acquiescence that the people simply cannot measure up, and I think that is also wrong.  

Fomenting improvements to the family is where we really need to start. But that will entail admitting the problem, and that is where I see the divergence....

I think the less kids in the shitty schools the better, even if it’s the good kids. It’s not like the good kids are lifting up the bad ones. It’s the opposite. Let the schools be less populated and more attention can be given to the students that need it most. Not perfect,  but it has to be better.

So out if 260 million voting age Americans, only 7 million or 2.7 percent do not have a valid government ID.  Since there are over 100 million who don't vote anyways, the 7 million are mostly people who don't care enough to vote.
