I’ve always viewed my stance on immigration issues as an essentially moral one. I don’t believe we should forcibly deport millions of people. I don’t believe we should round up families or separate parents from children. I don’t believe the vast majority of those who come here without documents are criminals or bad people or mean us harm or are a source of any of our major problems. I think there’s a lot of ugly scapegoating going on, its source is bigotry, and it saddens me that so many good Americans and otherwise very bright people have fallen for this crap.
