Something is burrowing in my roof!

Not sure where you live, if it's cold there or not.  Could be a squirrel, but squirrels don't like to live in attics.  Could be mice or rats.  Could also be a bird or birds on the roof or in the gutters which can sound like they are on the ceiling sometimes.  If you went up there and didn't see anything alarming then maybe wait it out.  You would have to call pest control.  Be alert for scams.  A pest control person would charge around $100 to look around, and even if they don't find something they will likely suggest trap setting and a complete critter proof package for several hundred dollars which is probably unnecessary.

As a new homeowner you have to be alert for people looking to scam you.  Like the duct cleaning, it's a complete waste of money unless you're suffering from allergies or asthma in the house.

You don't get your ducts cleaned? You filthy animal

Seriously?

The only significant thing we found when we cleaned our ducts was a dead mouse.  But, you really want to be breathing in a rotting mouse corpse?  Not to mention the previous owner's dead skin, pet hair.  What if you have mold.  When done right it also helps find any leaks in the system.   I'm not saying you have to do it routinely, but, when buying a new home I want a full inspection and that includes the inside the ducts.  Feel free to live in other's squalor if you want.

Dude an idiot. You should get your ducts cleaned every 6-9 months. Not to mention it helps your AC unit last longer.

No, it's at best unnecessary.  At worst a scam.  Just ask any honest HVAC guy.  But you keep donating if it makes you feel cleaner.

What's with all the germaphobes here?

Your ducts should be clean if you have an effective filter. Aprilaire 413 filters are kickass.

Merv 13 filters, very good but very tight and could add stress to your unit.  Kinda overkill unless you have respiratory problems.

It’s making scratching sounds right now. It sounds like a squirrel 🐿️

I can’t see anything in my gutters from the lawn. I went into the attic and it’s all foam, no critters. But I can hear it. It’s like scratching, kind of loud.

Do I call pest control?
☹️😞😩

Just buy another house. worms and nobody and ron_artest and pimpledoosh and the white dumbass wonder say you'll instantly be worth 40x more than what you have right now.

Go to Home Depot and get a twelve pack of those green squares to kill rats. Throw half of them in all corners of your attic and the other two in the center. Make sure the water in your drip pan in the A/C unit up there is dry. When they eat the poison they get thirsty and need water. They found a way in and they will go outside to find wate. Which triggers the poison to kill their brain and neurology’s. You don’t want them rotting in your house,

I fawking hate squirrels. I’ll share later as to why,

Peenie, just burn your house down and go rent.  Then you won't have to breathe any previous owner's dead skin.  Also you'll be able to move and be worth 2.5M one day and nearly $2M the next because you're totally not lying to win the internet.

They're coming to check it out this Friday.

Before moving in the previous owner had the ducts in the home cleaned. In fact it had never been done in the entire time of the home's existence (since 1950's). The inspector told me to tell them to do it. I had trees removed and gutters cleaned since moving in. It greatly reduced the number of those horrendous big black roaches from coming in. In fact, twice, I captured lizards in my home. Geezus. Luckily, I'm an animal lover. I don't kill those big tree roaches, spiders or lizards. I carry them outside.

Your point is that you don't want to breath in the former owners dead skin.  That's very strange.

What if the former owner was a 28 year old Catherine Zeta Jones?

And you should spend 3 to 6 months salary on an engagement ring.
