This would be a legitimate argument for conservatives except that when they get into power they never cut any spending and consistently increase the debt worse than liberals do. So it’s not a question of too much spending, it’s only a question of what spending is preferred.

I am not making the argument on behalf of republicans who have never truely stood as conservatives anyhow, not as the term once was understood before the shift of meanings the last twenty years.  Being a constitutionalist (the philosophy, not the party) andbeing  fiscally responsible I have no party. I spend marginally more time railing against the party currently in power and the idiots that wholeheartedly support them, but when the pendulum swings I rail against the other side as well.

I assume you are talking about his 2017 numbers.   Which is before allowing the highest spike in a decade, leading to the policies that people are touting around here like Title 42 and Remain in Mexico, then the numbers dropped again.    Then they were back down to what they had been for most of the decade.

Just think it's odd to take credit for that low number, but not admitting it was before he allowed that spike that led to policies I assume you like.   Also it's odd that those policies and drop also came right before an election, but that never seems to be honestly admitted by his followers either.   Yes, the border under Biden is way worse and the border is a sh1t show now.   I just think it's funny that people tout Trump as a one of a kind border hawk when after his policies he didn't even have as low as numbers as the previous administration.

Trump started implementing Remain in Mexico in 2018.  The spike in 2019 is from when the Dems held it up in court causing a rush as the injunction allowed asylum seekers to remain in the US.  You remember the migrant caravans?  This is common knowledge, try reading wiki or something.

Why did he stop? 🛑

He didn't want to steal money from other sources to pay for it anymore.

He has since resumed building the wall and has pledged support for a bill to dedicate money to build more wall, but Trump directed his minions to kill the bill.

Fair enough.

But your argument remains problematic to me. You’re warning me about spending pennies while ignoring the hundred dollar bills going out the door. You know damn well that if doubled or quadrupled the amount we spend on undocumented immigrants, or, conversely, eliminated spending on them altogether, it wouldn’t make a significant impact on the debt or deficit either way. It’s all too big.

Are you looking in the mirror?

Numbers don't lie.  Miles of wall per president:

Clinton - 75

Bush - 505

Obama - 649

Trump - 452

Biden  - 🤡

Trump ran as a border hawk. Democrats fought him at every turn. On wall funding, on family separation, screamed about "concentration camps", lied about "kids in cages!". Remain in Mexico is racist! Many Dem city and states declared as sanctuaries. Called to eliminate ICE, & defund BP. They sued when he signed asylum proclamation. Scoffed when Trump warned of caravans.

The left are garbage people.

Your first point is absolutely true. The Democratic reaction to Trump's border policies were in many cases knee jerk, "Trump supports it, therefore we cannot" sorts of reactions that ultimately prevented real solutions from being enacted.

Your second statement is untrue and counterproductive. I really hope that all the jagoffs that say similar things don't really believe that, and are just participating in partisan mudslinging. And I mean that for those in every location along the political spectrum.

So throw up our hands?

You make that argument again and again when you like the status quo but you rail against it when you do not. Your moral compass is expediaency for what you want, like a child.

Watch your pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.

I don't think he can help it.  He's incapable of learning or changing.  It's got to be some sort of mental disorder above just the normal TDS.

Oh yeah.  It predates Trump for sure.  Remember, this is the guy who to this day thinks it's ok to rape 13 year olds if they "look" older.

Looks like the Democrat is going to win to replace Santos. That might be a message that this whole panic over immigration is not going to be the issue that Republicans hope that it’s going to be.

If that is the case, then after Biden’s re-election and the House changes hands there will be some kind of deal reached regarding immigration but it will be much friendlier to what Dems want than the current deal that Trump blew up. In other words, the Republicans really screwed up here and they will regret killing this bill.

Not really. It’s a traditional democrat area that Biden won handily. Santos winning was the anomaly, not  a brand name like Suozzi winning.

In order to win the House in 2022 Republicans had to win a lot of districts like this one, traditionally Democrat. If 2022 was an anomaly like you say then Democrats will win the House back (and Biden will likely be re-elected.)

Yep. Clownzo today tried to take credit for how much money Taylor Swift has made due to a music-industry law he signed but had nothing to do with, not to mention Swift has done just fine financially without him, and he's jealous of how much money she makes, so it should be easy for him to try to take credit for his "influence" on the new immigration bill and then brag during his campaign about it.

Many interviewed last night who voted for the Democrat said that immigration was their #1 issue and they didn’t vote for the Republican because they don’t trust Republicans to secure the border after they blew up the recent bill to help Trump.

Link!

if you took all the illegal immigrants and put them in one area, they would be the seventh largest state in the country and they are growing more rapidly than any other state in the country.

Interesting.

✅ Trump says we had a border crisis in 2019 under his watch.

✅ Trump says in order to fix it we need congress to take action to secure the border

✅ Trump calls for humanitarian assistance

5 years later the talking points are that you don't need congress to close the border, it was great under Trump, crisis now, and the illegals are poising the blood of Americans.  Crazy how the message changed so much in 5 years.  5 years ago he sounded just like Biden does today.

So support the bipartisan bill to address the issue. If you don't support this, you don't care about addressing the immigration problem.

Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see.

This is not a border control Bill. It is a built to subsidize the Ukrainian war. Hiring more judges, and processing agents will only increase the problems on the border.

This crisis is beyond belief and it would not be happening under Trump. Or pretty much anyone else, Democrats included. This is on Biden, 100 pct.

The numbers are not the same, they're much worse now.  It was a crisis that needed support from Congress in 2019.  It's much worse now.  It's nothing new.  We need to take Trump's advice and urge Congress to act to fix it.  Biden is trying.
