Has there been another time in NFL history where a team gave a large contract to a free agent QB and then a couple months later used a top 10 draft pick to get his replacement? Asking for a friend...

If you think Cousins will be productive for all 4 years of his contract, then yes, you might be right.

personally I think Cousins will be productive for 2 (maybe 3) years and then his production likely falls off a cliff.  There is an out in the contract for the team after 2026 I think.    This is the succession plan.   I dont mind it.   I'm sure Cousins hates it but I dont care about his feelings about it.

I only want him to produce when hes on my fantasy team.

He ain't going anywhere with those cap hits.

spotrac confirms there is a potential out after the 2026 season.   12.5 M dead cap hit.   so at that point they could exit if that was their desire.   granted the cost is high but in reality reasonable given the annual cap hit of 57 Mil that last year.

Imagine that? Penix will be a 27 year old rookie at least, before his first snap as a starter.

Kyle Pitts is younger than Penix 😂

Yes, and 24 is the breakout age for a QB. He won't even be starting till he's at least 27 years old.

And even then nobody's going to know if he can play QB in the NFL.

It's the worst pick in NFL history, say it.

You guys have learned nothing.  The very fact that you're so sure Penix won't play ensures Cousins will have a concussion by week 4.

I'm confused, so they paid Cousins knowing he would get hurt and that Penix would be the QB?

Soooooo, why did they sign Cousins?

No.  All the whining about Penix getting drafted at 8 like the Falcons are supposed to assume Cousins is indestructible and a defensive lineman was going to be the difference in them making the super bowl will induce a Cousins injury since when the vast majority of people all agree and are overly confident in a future they can't predict are always wrong. It's simple cause and effect.

Even the owner was pissed. Look at the video in the War room. The owner had his hands up like "WTF are we doing".

They will finish dead last in the NFC north this year. Lions, Bears, Packers, Vikes.

possible.

Lions are really good, Bears will be better than last year, Pack are a solid, young team on the rise.

as a whole, this could potentially be the best division in nfl

They say he's having a hard time making good reads and is under throwing balls.

He's having a hard time making NFL throws, which was the concern all along. Tape doesn't lie

Which blows my mind based on how it looked last year. They were all in shambles other than the lions. The lions play 14 of their 15 first games indoors this year. Goff had 23 tds last year indoors to 7 outdoors. Unless the bears can shred through their schedule they are coming in second.Williams is being set up to succeed though like no other rookie qb in the history of the league. The pack should be good but I think they will fall victim  to  both the lions and bears being better.  The vikes will likely struggle under their rookie.

"JJ McCarthy has been "struggling" in practice. The coaches gave him an earful as his ball protection has been very poor".

I think Darnold can be beaten in camp, I’m not a fan of Darnold, but I think he’s going to do enough to be the opening day starter, but I don’t think it will last long.

ok thats the sort of thing that keeps a QB on the bench.

but it is early in pre season.   Lets see if this is still the case later in the pre season.    sometimes that adjustment to the pro game can be rough.

if hes still doing this when they start the pre season games, then I think he will sit as a rookie until late in the season.

And he's currently 3rd on the depth chart. Not good for the #10 pick who's competing with dogs. He looks bad right now

lots of first round QB's start at #3 on the depth chart.   quite often coach wants them to earn their spot on the roster.

at this point in the pre season, this is a nothingburger.

if hes still #3 on the depth chart once they get beyond game 1 of the pre season then I'd be concerned he wont play this year.

either way, its too early to panic.    Personally I dont care either way.  I did like his scouting report and watched the tape posted by doug earlier.   he looked like he had some potential but may not be a day one starter.    so as far as I'm concerned hes not really that far behind where I thought he'd be at this point.

Very difficult ranking Jefferson, Addison.

I'm not too worried about Jefferson. I think he'll be a fine based on volume alone. We could certainly see a drop off in big plays/TDs. I'd probably rank him just behind or around Amon Ra at this point.

Kirk Cousins Reveals Where He's At With Injury Rehab (msn.com)

Achilles tendon recovery times are somewhat similar to ACL's... the process is a bit different.  With ACL's, you kinda have to wait until the swelling goes down and surgery may take place 2 to 3 months after the injury.  With Achilles tendon's, surgery is usually a.s.a.p.  After that though, it's still 6 to 9 months before you're back on the field and 9 to 12 to full strength.

With Cousins getting hurt at the end of October, I don't expect him to actually be participating in full pads this offseason, at all.  I expect him to throw a little here and there, standing still... no drop backs at all, during mini-camp.  By the time training camp opens at the end of July, he'll be pretty much 9 full months post surgery, so I expect a lot more at that point in time.  Where he's at after training camp is the real marker, not right now.

Because Rodgers tore his in Week 1, I expect him to be a full participant throughout training camp, where as with Cousins, I expect him... to be there and practicing a bit.  I can see Rodgers playing a bit during the pre-season, I expect nothing from Cousins until Week 1.

I kinda figured the timeline was close to the same.   I got the impression an achilles injury affects a RB different than it does a QB.   though I wasnt 100% sure that the timeline for a QB is substantially different.     with a RB you need to run with a burst and make cuts while a QB rarely has to do that.    but there is still the throwing motion to consider  and depending on which leg had the injury it may or may not affect his throwing motion to a great degree.

I fully acknowledge the injury will affect Cousins ability to scramble, but he was never much of a running QB to begin with.    he plays out of the pocket and the Line he has on his new team is far better than the line he played behind last year, so I dont think he will have a ton of pressure to scramble either.

unfortunately I dont know enough about the injury to say more.   Usually I'm pretty diligent about doing research on these things, but its still early and I have not done any digging yet.

Behind, Cousins was a better Qb than either one of the two they currently roster, that’s going to impact Jefferson overall production, he’s still a low wr1 to me.

If I had a nickel for every cornerback drafted by the Vikings in the 2020s to die in a car crash, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

  • Haha 1
  • Sad 2
