A week ago I didn’t know who Tim Walz was. From what I’ve read he sure seems like a guy filled with honor and great integrity. His actions as governor regarding transgenders in particular tell me that he’s a brave guy willing to stand up to his convictions. I really like and admire that. I also really like his stances on gays and undocumented immigrants, on Covid and the George Floyd protests. All of this makes he think he is a stand up guy. Perhaps like other politicians he stretches the truth about himself from time to time. That would be unfortunate. Still like him though. 

He didn’t exactly say he carried a weapon in war. They’re sorta twisting it but it could work. He basically made a comment that these school shooters killing a bunch of little kids are carrying the same weapons he did in war. Obviously the point was they’ve got access to weapons you maybe shouldn’t have unless you’re in an actual uniform, but eye liner guy thinks he can twist it. We’ll see

BTW this was at the Philly speech, not some secret tape he was trying to hide

If this video is it then yeah is easy to explain. That this would be an issue when the other ticket has a guy who said McCain was only a hero because he got captured kind of rings hollow.

I would like to see Walz answer this question though to see how he responds.

Like most I am really just seeing this guy for first time past couple weeks. He does seem quick on his feet, well spoken, and gives good answers. But this is next level.

I posted an interview somewhere in here he gave at some point after his Gov run where some of these issues were raised by his opponent. He answered there very well.

I should have known about the video as soon as I saw @Strike’s name that it would be misleading as hell. What a crock of sh!t. 
 

So let me get this straight, there are three accusations made against Walz regarding his military service:  

1. He left his National Guard unit, after 24 years of service, two months before it was deployed. At the time he left he didn’t know it would be deployed. MAGA has turned this into “he ran away from combat and abandoned his buddies!” 

2. Shortly before he quit he was promoted to Sgt. Command Major, which is a very hard position to reach. He never actually served in that position having not completed the formalities, yet his bio for office reads he retired in that position. MAGA had turned this into “he lied about his rank!” 

3. In a speech promoting gun control, Walz made the point that civilians were using weapons of war that Walz used during his time in the service; he said “weapons that I used in war”. MAGA has turned this into “he lied about being in combat”. 
 

Sorry guys all three of these are nothingburgers. I suppose the last one could be seen as slightly problematic but it’s pretty clear that his overall point was about the weapons in question and not some sort of brag that he was in a war he wasn’t. If he’s pressed on it I’m sure he’ll say he misspoke and shouldn’t have said that. But I don’t think any of this rises to anything the public is going to care about. It certainly doesn’t change my mind about the guy.

As the military has protocols for such things the second in command's assertion would certainly be verifiable. MAGA has turned this into “he ran away from combat and abandoned his buddies!” 

2. Shortly before he quit he was promoted to Sgt. Command Major, which is a very hard position to reach. He never actually served in that position having not completed the formalities, yet his bio for office reads he retired in that position. MAGA had turned this into “he lied about his rank!” The formalities of obtaining a rank are taken pretty seriously in the military.  He should have been fully aware of this.  As it is his bio, touted by him, and he knew, formality or not that it was not true that would make it a lie.

3. In a speech promoting gun control, Walz made the point that civilians were using weapons of war that Walz used during his time in the service; he said “weapons that I used in war”. MAGA has turned this into “he lied about being in combat”.  Another lie.  he was looking to create an untrue impression of valor and service.  He could have and should have said weapons that soldiers have carried in war.  Guardsmen are keenly aware of whether or not they are in a war zone.  Pay and service ribbons depend on such matters.  There was and is no mistaking this. H.e puffed his service to inflate his importance. Do I care, not particularly but I never served and watched buddies die in service.  To those that have this may be important.  I comment, as I generally do, not on being bothered by the issue but becasue I am bothered by the twisting of language and by poor logic.
