Glad I saw it on the big screen. Saw it this afternoon. Agreed that it wasn't as good as Fury Road, but still very enjoyable. Didnt see it in IMAX but instead saw it on AMC's Dolby Cinema fancy schmancy option. Great for the sound of those engines.
gas 157 Posted May 28, 2024 Just saw it, thought it was very good. That said, Charlize Theron could have been in this, and it would have been a better movie with her.

The Real timschochet 6,764 Posted May 28, 2024 Haven’t seen it and don’t want to. But a couple of other things occurred to me: 1. The title. If you haven’t seen the trailer, the title sounds like an Italian art film. If you called it “Fury Road Something” or “Mad Max something” then I know what it is. But I’m guessing a lot of people don’t: 2. Anna Joy is a growing star but she’s covered in a lot of makeup and you don’t recognize her. So the star power attraction is lost. Little mistakes like this can make all the difference at the box office I think…

Little mistakes like this can make all the difference at the box office I think… The full movie title is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga i guess they could have called It Mad Max: Furiosa but the Furiosa name should be familiar to fans. If you see any sort of imagery, commercial or trailer and hear Furiosa, you know what it is because its clearly a similar setting. You'd have to see just a list of movie names to not immediately put it together. I still have no clue who Anna Taylor Joy is looking at her pictures I recognize her from a few seasons of Peaky Blinders but had to google anything else shes been in. So I'm not sure where the star power is, makeup or not.
TheNewGirl 1,491 Posted May 28, 2024 We were going to go see it this weekend but it didn't work out with our schedule. Probably still go see it this week despite terrible reviews. Right and the Northman looks interesting but have not seen it. And she was in Split but that was 2016. Not saying she isn't a good actress but if anyone thinks there is an issue with lack of star power or thinks star pawer is lost because of makeup and costumes I would argue shes hardly a star and more people would be seeing it for Hemsworth. jerryskids 6,797 Posted May 28, 2024 The important thing that I learned from this thread was that Fury Road was a good movie. I figured at the time it was yet another sad attempt to reboot an old franchise, with a woke attempt to make a woman (Charlize Theron) a gritty action hero. Although I do respect Theron as an actress... anyway, I'll put that on the list to watch, then maybe check out Furiosa.

You'd likely describe it as "the toy story spinoff" not "the most recent toy story movie" I had no idea wtf you were talking about and I wasn't arguing it just for the sake of arguing, I was genuinely curious if I missed one. Most impressive thing about Fury Road is that vast majority of action shots are performed by stunt people and practical effects. Very limited use of CGI. By the time he was in Fury Road he had already been in inception, lawless, warrior, dark knight rises, and the drop to name a few. Even the tolerable 'This means war'... and the same year as Fury Road he starred in Legend and Revenant and was a recurring character on Peaky Blinders. both leading roles were stars. I also never saw the old movies .
