I was one of those people.  I didn't anticipate them changing it from a debate to a reading of policy positions in an empty room.

I’m good with the rule changes.

Audiences were treating these things like WWE events rather than serious political discussions. I’ll admit it can be entertaining but it hardly leads to meaningful discussion of the issues.

Talking over your opponent became way too commonplace as well. The occasional well placed quip was one thing but it devolved into simply shouting each other down.

I’d rather the rule changes weren’t necessary, but I think they probably are

The rules for this debate have designed to show us who is more mentally alert, more competent, more knowledgeable, and most important who has better ideas for leading the country. I think many of you realize that Joe Biden is going to prove superior in every one of these categories and that is why we are already hearing excuses. When the debate is over expect to hear from Trump and his supporters that it was all fixed just like the trial.

Not having people in the crowd doing the wave I could go either way on but is fine, this isn’t “America’s Got Talent”.

This is the crux of.its "unfairness." Donald will be prevented from shouting Biden down, from trying to be intimidating, from talking over him constantly.

Those are the main ones I know of.  The lack of a crowd is IMO the biggest advantage for Biden -- he was never particularly good at reading a crowd, reacting to it, motivating it, even before his dementia.  He would have been utterly lost if the crowd was in any way responsive.

Considering the mic shut off as a benefit to Donald is a pretty partisan take.  Objectively, Biden has a tenuous hold on coherence at best, and 100% Trump would have rattled him.

No crowd, no noise, no bright lights, just a sterile serene environment for Biden to read his prepared statements.  You may or may not have noticed, but reading prepared statements is not where Trump shines.

I don’t know why you keep repeating this reading stuff. There’s no teleprompter, no reading cards. They may be repeating some memorized material.

One of the better moments was him reacting to Congress when the rubes were heckling him during SoTU IMO.

A laugh track would be more like the current format -- sterile and controlled.  A live audience during a sitcom can be great, and allows the actors to feed off of it.
