Harrison Butker releases a statement responding to the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

It’s an absolutely worthless exercise arguing this stuff with Leftists.  Pointless.  The two main characters in the skit are on record saying that the scene was a take on The Last Supper.  Yet the Leftist trolls continue to say it wasn’t.

There’s always evidence to the contrary, if you look really really hard. 😆

I dunno. I think I prefer to take his word for it over something I can’t read in French or a social media account. But that’s just me.

Excuses, after the fact, which try to negate responsibility are, to me, less than believable.  Symbolic speech is always open to some interpretation so anything is possible, but it is not probable to believe these folks had no idea the representation they presented would be interpreted as it was.  The Last supper is iconic and recognized across nearly all ncultures.  It is part of basic culteralnliteracy.  to pretend they did not know that, or intend the association is unbelievable.

One of those didn’t really.

And to confirm, the guy who created it is “looking really really hard”?

Let’s go with it’s the last supper.  Other than the exposed testicle which no one noticed at first, where is the “mockery”?

For the record I thought the Opening Ceremony sucked.  The performances were mostly lackluster, although I’m sure the pouring rain didn’t help.  I watched almost the whole thing and I didn’t even notice this Last Supper thing until all the righties got all outraged about it.  I have previously stated the weird threesome they showed earlier on was much more inappropriate.

No he didn’t, liar.

You can claim he was lying, you are welcome to your opinion, but he specifically said it was not inspired by the last supper

So not gonna answer?  Even the one dude in the skit that thought it was the last supper said it was not a mockery

If there was such a supper, which Christians firmly believe, it was undoubtedly a solemn occassion, not a frivolous one with and the participants each vying for attention with outrageous garb and exposed testicles.

Fokks often try to evade responsibility when they are called out, or caught out.  They do so by grasping at any lie which will absolve them of culpability.  Parents know this.  Teachers know this, and cops know this.

We’ll, there’s reporting that the Producers of the event have said clearly that it was based on The Last Supper:

Paris Olympics Producers Say ‘The Last Supper’ Inspired That Opening Ceremony Scene: ‘Many Have Done It Before’

“For the ‘Festivities’ segment, Thomas Jolly took inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting to create the setting,” producers said in the statement. “Clearly, there was never an intention to show disrespect towards any religious group or belief … [Jolly] is not the first artist to make a reference to what is a world-famous work of art. From Andy Warhol to ‘The Simpsons,’ many have done it before him.”

Even if it is depicting the last supper, why is it upsetting?  Because Christians think LGBT folks are sinners?

I'm putting what Phil posted because I could not have put it better:

You really need this explained to you?  It’s Jesus’ last supper with his apostles, the night before he was crucified.  For believers, it’s one of the most significant, holy moments in Christianity.  I don’t care who mocks it, either.  But yeah, a guy with his nuts hanging out in front of a child makes it even more of an insult.

And Leftists defend the weirdest shitt.  A LOT of people disliked the Segment and found it offensive.  If the goal was to “unite and be inclusive” they failed miserably.  My sister is a hardcore Liberal and she was even offended by the show.  Your team is going to lose this Culture War, and in the process undo a lot of the positive changes that the reasonable Left brought about in the last 30 years.  Congrats?

Get the f*** out of here, you liar.  Trying to distract and make stuff up to cover your support of degeneracy and perversion.

Tim finds none of this weird, it's all normal to him? WTF is going on in his household? I hope he has no kids because he's obviously a perv if this isn't weird to him.

This is projection as you admit, but thank you for the reasonable response at least.

So safe to assume if there were no drag performers involved but wearing the same outfits we would have seen the same outrage then?  I doubt that, personally.

And as I responded to him, the testicle thing is a red herring as that’s not why people were first outraged about it.  I agree that is inappropriate, we also don’t know if it was even intentional.  As for the rest of the argument, see my response to Engorgeous George above.

Okay so you disagree with @Engorgeous George then, you think it’s a mockery because it’s being portrayed by drag queens?

You know it never occurred to me before, but Da Vinci’s painting is quite similar to Greek depictions of Dionysus’ revelries. Which might have been a little subtle mockery on his part. Perhaps the real complaint here should be with Leonardo?

Hey Tim , stop mocking my religion . You think you’re being funny , think you’re being clever, you’re not. I would never mock Judaism, I  expect the same from you

I don’t think I’ve written anything in this thread, or in this forum, or in any forum, that has mocked Christianity. I wrote earlier that I felt that all of the  major religions could use a little mocking, but I haven’t done it myself to the best of my knowledge and certainly not in the post you responded to. That was about renaissance art, and had nothing to do with the actual Christian religion.

Amazing how you project. What you wrote doesn’t apply to me at all, but substitute ABC and CNN for right wing media and it fits you to a tee.

It absolutely applies and you keep getting dumber.  I don't even watch or follow the MSM because they've been caught lying so often.  You literally have no ability to think for yourself.

If you read the entire article it suggests that there is a disagreement about what the scene was about. Some say The Last Supper, but the designer insists Dionysus.

I honestly have no dog in this hunt. Dionysus makes some sense to me and I gave my reasons why. I also think that the designer would know. But he could be lying. Again I have no idea. I can only offer an opinion same as everyone else here.
