LOL, as a receptionist.

You're response tells me you think that Barrett was more qualified than Kagan, is that correct?

The Solicitor General of the United States is not a receptionist, they argue cases before SCOTUS.

Didn’t read the thread.

Term Limits are fine. However can we not start in Congress?  I find it incredibe  that a man whose spent 50 years in office all the sudden wants term limits when he’s finally to damn senile and his own party has to step in.

Anyone with an IQ over 90 knows an “Ethics Code” will simply be changed / abused by whomever is in power of such a  subjective thing at that time.

It’s all just a waste of time anyway.  The President just can’t deem things so.  We have a Constitution and separation of powers.  Once again the left gaslighting about “authoritarianism” and “threat to democracy”.

Focking Amen. 🙏

If Democrats were getting their way, if the court were ruling in their favor.....we would not be talking about this.

Because Democrats are not getting their way, they want to break it down....change it....make sure they only ever get their way.....

The intent of no term limits for SCOTUS was a purposeful action on the part of the framers to ensure the court was insulated from political influence, and I agree with their design.  As it pertains to SCOTUS, I do not agree with term limits.

Yeah, I get the idea, just not sure about the right decision. I would say, for awhile now, the court has not been insulated from political influence.

I see your point.  Given the way politicians grill candidate to the court in a political manner, it would seem they are aware of the concern. And we do see judges behaving in political ways instead of judicial ones.  I think it would be of use if judges were selected who have never demonstrated any political tilt at all, instead of the ongoing placement of activitsts.

How many terms do you think a justice should be able to serve?

I think something like five 3 year terms is appropriate. That would give someone 15 years on the bench. I'd say we could go to 20.

I also think there should be term limits on Congress. there is no reason that people Pelosi and McConnell are in Congress as long as they are.

I do not agree with term limits for SCOTUS.  I do believe in age limits, no ruling Justices after they reach 72 years of age.  After that they may stay on as Emeritus Justices advising the Chief Justice as to judicial codes of ethics for the Supremes and all federal courts, and advising court personnel and the many law clerks. They would also be a resource to the Chief Justice and the Associate Justices.

KJP admitting today that these changes are being proposed simply because Biden doesn't like recent decisions from the court.  That's not how it's supposed to work.

Waste of hot air, none of this is happening on Biden's watch.

Don't be so sure. We have a dead duck president, who is so brain-dead he will sign ANYTHING his handlers put in front of him.

This is a very dangerous time for us.

This data is a little dated, but Barrett is the 3rd most centrist of the justices.  Only Roberts and Cavanaugh are closer to center.  The other 6, including the 3 liberals, are more biased.

Quote
  • Most liberal: Sonia Sotomayor (-4.09)
  • Elena Kagan (-2.067)
  • Ketanji Brown Jackson (-1.704)
  • John Roberts (0.42)
  • Brett Kavanaugh (0.446)
  • Amy Coney Barrett (0.821)
  • Neil Gorsuch (1.077)
  • Clarence Thomas (2.358)
  • Most conservative: Samuel Alito (2.568)
