Watching Stand By Me For The Umteenth Time

Recommended Posts

And every time I watch it I learn something new. Like now. When  Gordy Is telling the story about Lard Ass, at the end of the story, one of them asks what is the ending. Which is a direct answer to Kings criticism that he writes great stories but his endings aren’t well written . Great movie.

Does it hold up to the test of time? I watched goonies with my 10 year old recently. I have watched that probably 50 times in my life. It was one of our favorites as kids and we would just replay that over and over.  I was horrified to discover it was in fact a giant steaming pile of shitt after watching it again with him.

Video series I watch on movies(special effects, stunts...) had a discussion about a technique called Introvision, which was used on Stand By Me to do the train sequence.

Video starts off with what Introvision is and the Stand By Me stuff is at 6:13 if you want to skip ahead.

Never watched either film and I've tried. Just didn't capture my attention.

Before you criticize, ask yourself how many times have you watched Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club or Pretty in Pink?

WHAT?!?!  The Goonies absolutely holds up.  The Sandlot is also a childhood favorite that holds up for me.

Those are also classics.  Seen them a lot, but not as much as the others.

As an adult the goonies is focking awful. Go watch it again. It is soooooo sooo bad it is cringeworthy. Do not watch it with 8 year old  you eyes. Watch it with your eyes NOW. NOW it is just a terrible movie.

That is so hard for me to believe you still think it is good. I have rewatched a lot of the classics from my youth and most of them are OK. THIS is the one that threw me because I loved it so much as a kid. It is just very unrealistic even for a movie.

I never really took a long break from the movie.  I bet I've seen it at least once every two years since high school.  We watched it all the time in college as well.

Ok. I think that if you took a big enough break from it you would start to see. When I watched it as a kid I thought it was literally the best movies of all time. I wanted to be a focking goonie man. They never say die. I was so hyped to show my kid this movie and I was embarrassed at what I saw. He thought I was nuts because I hyped it up so much only for it to be an arguably pretty bad movie.

King wrote some brilliant classics, dramas were his best work in my opinion . Stand By Me , Shawshank Redemption, Dolores Claiborne, and Green Mile.

I’ve never seen Jerry Maguire, never saw it, never wanted to see it. Due to this thread, I’ve decided to watch it.

I wrote that I never watched Stand By Me or the Goonies. I thought since I never gave those movies a chance, I’d give Jerry Maguire a chance as I’d never wanted to see it. It looked overrated. It is overrated but entertaining especially since so much in the world has changed since it was filmed.

ahh ok kinda makes sense, you would have been better if you tied Jerry Oconnell to Goonies and Jerry Magwire though
