We can agree to disagree, but this thread would be dead IMO.

I'm not saying that Trump was intentionally playing some 4D chess move to keep it in the public discussion, but... he has a way of doing that.  :dunno:

Without the cats, this is a nothing story.

An illegal could kill a family of four and it would pretty much go unnoticed.

An illegal could take two young school girls into the woods and rape them and you wouldnt really hear squat.

There have been multiple reports about it long before Trump mentioned it. Those are facts. Now that Trump mentioned it. Cats look like chickens

All those reports have been proven false.  Those are facts.  Trump repeated known lies.  You defend this behavior.

Trump Supporter Who Blamed Haitians for Stealing Cat Finds Pet in Basement

Trump supporter in Springfield, Ohio, who filed a police report accusing Haitian migrants of stealing her cat, recently discovered her pet hiding in her own basement.

Anna Kilgore gained national attention after filing a police report in which she accused her Haitian neighbors of being responsible for her cat's disappearance in late August, claiming they had eaten the cat.

However, it was later discovered that her cat, Miss Sassy, had been hiding in Kilgore's basement the entire time. After realizing her mistake, Kilgore used a translation app to apologize to her neighbors, according to The Wall Street Journal.

It is amusing that a cat with the name of "Miss Sassy" might cost Trump the election. 😁

And “Venezuelans taking over apartment complexes!!”

Of all in the interviews I’ve seen on Springfield, violent crime is almost never mentioned.

its illegal to kill and eat domestic animals, you know your team has PETA on it and they would be absolutely against this I thought

as far as Trump/Vance, the gloves are off, its been nonstop rhetoric since 2015, I don't really give a fock what either of them say at this point

It's illegal to speed, double park, carry drugs and unlicensed firearms, distill your own whiskey, etc. Lots of "illegal" things go on everywhere every day and nobody raises an eyebrow. People kill and eat squirrels, rabbits, birds, and other small game regularly, especially farmers and rural citizens. Nobody cares. If the domestic animals aren't someone's pet, does it matter?

Trying to associate me with PETA is desperate and funny. IDGAF what PETA does or says. HTH.

Not to mention that these people aren’t undocumented either. They’re here legally.

The fact that the MAGA folks keep calling them “illegal”, and conflating them with those who come across our borders, is a huge tell. It completely makes a lie of the folks who always argue “I’m for immigration so long as it’s legal.”

And it also makes a lie of the talking point that "It's not about race" - of course it is, it's all about race.

Thanks.  I don't care about Boyo TrailGuy,, but I think he's worried they might ship Haitian migrants to his city, train them for a week on Excel, and take his job away from him.  :(

OK. Can you discuss in detail the “significant impact” you speak of here? Putting aside the pet myth, how have the people already living there been negatively affected?

My assumption is that they haven’t been negatively affected, and that this whole supposed issue is rooted in fear, xenophobia, and racism. But feel free to prove me wrong.

Multiple links have been provided in this thread containing the info you requested.

In summary tho, it has been taxing to social services, hospitals, schools, all from both the sheer numbers and the translation services.  Housing prices are stressed.  They can't drive well or read road signs, and have caused some bad accidents.  They've likely taken some jobs from locals who would work them (although not all workers want them).

Vance just relayed what the lady reported; is that his fault?  Is he supposed to knock on this lady's door himself to check on the status of Miss Sassy?  :dunno:

If Trump wins, will rising house prices be a good thing again?

Yeah. He might want to spend a bit more time rather than relaying what he read on Facebook.

Do you have any evidence for any of this? I can accept the argument that social services have been taxed but I’m skeptical that anyone already there has been directly affected. The part about them not driving well and causing accidents sounds like total bullsh!t and I doubt you have anything but anecdotes loosely offered. Same for taking jobs away.

I suspect that since these folks were invited there to fulfill a real economic need, that it’s the opposite of your assertions: they’re actually a boon to the economy of the region. And the antipathy to them is based on xenophobia and racism.

Actually he did. According to the Wall Street Journal he sent his people to investigate; they were told by the lady that the cat had been found. JD learned this and decided to publicly double down on the lie anyhow.

It really isn’t. Unfortunately @jerryskids is repeating xenophobic falsehoods here. Here is an article from Reuters which contradicts his assertions:

From your own link, which you obviously didn't read:

Quote
Enrollment in Medicaid and federal food assistance and welfare programs surged. So did rents and vehicle accidents, including a collision last year when a Haitian without a U.S. driver's license drove into a school bus, killing 11-year-old Aiden Clark and injuring 26 other children.
The number of affordable housing vouchers fell as landlords moved to market-based rents that were rising in the face of higher demand, a blow to existing residents relying on them.

Like I said, you aren't a serious person.

PR Tip for JD….if you get caught falling for a Twitter hoax. When you next go to present your evidence you probably want to make sure the lady’s cat wasn’t actually in the basement.

I did. I just posted a comprehensive article . While it does discuss some growing pains on the community like more car accidents (without the bigoted explanation you offered) it refutes your main points and discusses the net economic benefits.

No I read it. You’re cherry picking. You avoided quoting the rest of the article which refutes your overall point. Sure there are growing pains which happens whenever there is an increase in population. But overall these folks are a benefit and most of the crap you wrote isn’t happening. Which of us isn’t serious again?

I meant "reasonable" in that he gave his opinion (which may be wrong) but he gave it in a way that wasn't TRUMP IS AMAZING AND IMMIGRANTS ARE BAD!  I can see his thought process and argument but also not agree with it.

I think you’re wrong on this issue and Trump’s hysteria doesn’t lead to serious discussion about immigration. If anything, his Chicken Little routine makes it easier for Dems to dismiss legitimate concerns.

But I don’t think you’re low IQ or a cultist, even when I don’t agree with you.
