Unbeknownst to them & many others, apparently it's a musical.  

 

That would tic me off too.

I have seen a lot of commercials and not a single one makes it out to be a musical. Not only that musicals typically do not advertise themselves as that. I watched wonka on accident. Had I known for a second going in it was a musical I would not have went. Probably how a lot of people feel about Joker2.

I also haven’t seen it advertised as a musical.

Apparently Fleck dies at the end of the movie and it is revealed that he was never really The Joker.  He was just a mentally ill murderer and people of Gotham started calling him The Joker?  This is what the director has said now.  And Harley dumps him.

Probably not a good sign for your movie when the director has to ex post facto explain it to people.

Looked ghay enough without it being a musical.  I had no intention of going.
