The Beginning of the End

Recommended Posts

I’ve been following the NFL since 1965. Yeah I’m old. Been playing FF since 1994.

The past couple years the amount of injuries and DNP, questionable for this week, doubtful for this week, IR for four weeks, is, well, forbodding.

Back in the day there were at most a handful of players who lost the season due to injuries. Running backs carried it 30 times on a light day. Wide receivers never got hurt. They just didn’t. Now?

No more two a days. No more starters playing in exhibition games. Ridiculous money paid to a bunch of illiterate, stupid felons.

Sad but we’re witnessing the demise of a once great sport.

In our 14 team league we have a deep roster, with 4 IR spots.  My IR is full this week, with 2 other guys Out who I can’t even fit on IR.  Ridiculous.

Early 90es was when I started to find the very boring, and the leadership for of Hypocrites.  They talk about protecting the players , but add games, and now a lot more games played over seas.   One year a super bowl will be played in London. Opps.

Expect for ff, I do not watch nor follow the game, can’t even tell you who has the best record, I don’t care.

Been playing ff since 1988, I hope I can do so 36 more years,   Injures to my ff team don’t bother me,  the piss poor production on the field does, it’s just tecmo bowl.

In reased injury risk may be due to the increased size and speed of the players.

Medical knowledge along with size, speed and strength are all superior now. Players of yore had significantly lower life spans and quality of life post career. Training methods were inconsistent and skill differential within the game is narrower now. And it is a longer season.

i would prefer an 18 game schedule where teams get at least 2 byes and/or space out Thursday games so that there are no short weeks.

As someone who always believed special teams were a big part of the game, & rewarded players for those when I started my own league in 2005, I hated when they moved kick offs up to the 35 yard line from the 30. The kick off rules implemented this year are preposterous. Some of the roughing the passer penalties are ridiculous as well. Might as well say no one can even breathe on the QB.

In all seriousness, my prediction is within 10 years or less, the qb will be wearing a flag... maybe all the offensive scoring positions as well.

I'm not that optimistic. I'll try to avoid bringing politics into the FF area, & only say that 10 years from now, fantasy football will be the least of our worries.

This week is  beast … in a large league with deep bench and four IR spots have 9 players already unavailable for one reason or another.

on the spirit of the games, it’s also the wrap around technology that makes it less fun to me … too many calls reversed, analytics reports, updates on player availability… there was something special about having to rely on the inaccuracy and opinions of fellow viewers about the worth of a third string QB or random fill-in player just signed to your team.  #getoffmylawn

Ten years? Not sure we have 10 weeks.

You're right. I should have been more specific. The nation will be nothing more than a smoldering pile of rubble in 10 years.

I fear you're correct. Never thought this country would be crash and burn from within.

The amount of injuries the Saints have is insane. I think they are on their 5th center.  I think they have 12-15 starters out

Yeah, I got you beat by a couple of years. Started playing fantasy in 1988 when we used the USA TODAY sports page for stays & scoring. And YES, I know injuries happen every year bit it just seems/feels like there,xs more injuries this year than in recent year. So that shows how important it is tk have plenty of depth at all positions in teal football AND fantasy. Since the rash of jnjurirs lately next year I won't be playing in any leagues that don't have some IR spots. Tough to field a lineup with 2,3 or 4 players on your roster injured.

Yes, the good USA Today paper, that was the scoring system, and it was so tough to find injury reports. I was raised in SLT so I knew a lot of people that worked in the sports book at Harris Tahoe, so I would go there to gather info.  Great times.
