Ohio lawmaker proposes bill to make ‘flag planting’ in Ohio State stadium a felony

Days after the postgame melee between The Ohio State University (OSU) and University of Michigan football teams, an Ohio state lawmaker has introduced a new bill that would make “flag planting” within Ohio Stadium a felony criminal offense.

The bill, dubbed the O.H.I.O. Sportsmanship Act, was introduced on Tuesday by state Rep. Josh Williams, a Republican who represents a district bordering Michigan, north of Toledo.

The charge would be labeled a “fifth-degree felony,” which is the lowest level felony offense in Ohio. However, the maximum sentence is up to 12 months in prison, a fine of up to $2,500, and up to five years of probation.

Someone needs to introduce a federal amendment that if you are an elected politician, paid by tax payers and you come up with garbage bills like this, you can be fined and imprisoned.

It's a shame one needs to be written.  You would think current law could handle the situation by fining or imprisionment.

You know what's funny, the vast majority of Ohioans would absolutely support this bill.  If it were put up for the public to vote on it, I'd go out on a limb and say 80% of the votes would be a "YES"... 19% would say "NO - penalty isn't harsh enough", and 1% would say no... those would be the Michigan fans/transplants.

He should propose a bill that says THE Ohio State University should stop sucking against Michigan.

Only at Ohio State?  What about Ohio U, Cincinnati, etc?

You'd think that would matter, but I don't think it does.  LOL

I have 3 cousins who went to colleges in Ohio... 1 to Ohio State, one to Toledo, and the other to Dayton.  One of those cousins married a dude who went to Cincinnati.  All 4 of them root for Ohio State in all sports, even when they play the school that they went to.

Is "flag planting" defined.  What, for instance, would be the prohibition against urinating on the goal post or leaving a turd on the field if one did so shilded from public view, say in the injury tent.  if not in public view it would nto be public urination.  I suppose it could be a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct or altering or befouling property.

What about the turd OU left on its own field against Michigan, do they cahrge the team, the coaches, who?

Imagine what people on this forum would be saying if a Dem wrote this bill…

Huh?  That would require a Dem to love his country and state.  That' doesn't even exist.  You're better of getting a Unicorn to write this bill.

Good point.  I bet some of the players plant their flags into some of the cheerleaders as well.

Wtf does loving the country have to do with saying it should be a crime to plant a flag?  If a Dem wrote this bill he’d be a cuck, sore loser, got too many participation trophies growing up, etc

I had no clue which party he was affiliated with.   I'm just a fan & Alum of Wisconsin, living in Michigan and have learned to mock everything about THE University of Ohio.

Tough year for Bucky.  Maybe Men's basketball and Women's volleyball will clear some of the sour taste from our mouths.  For now Packers and Bucks wins this weekend will be very sustaining.
