That was my take-away from college economics. They create production inefficiencies and leave everyone - nations and consumers, poorer.

I wondered if Trump was just threatening tariffs as a diplomatic bargaining chip, but wouldn't actually employ them unless necessary. Guess not. I'd like to believe Trump knows what he's doing and it'll be good for America, but yeah...  we know that ain't right.

It is a big deal, but it didn't happen because of tariffs.

1) Trump never announced any tariffs on Taiwan.  

2) TSMC already began a huge investment in US manufacturing in 2022 thanks to incentives by Biden's Chip Act.  This current investment builds on that.
