LIBERATION DAY: US economy now in reverse

Just bought a Toro lawnmower, made in the formerly great state of Minnesota.  Not a fan, but it’s better than Mexico. Is that technology outdated too?

Good job. Minnesota is like a lot of other states. The liberals in the big cities like Minneapolis, St Paul, Duluth, Rochester, etc. make it look as if the entire state is whacked, but it's better once you get away from those areas. My gut tells me people are finally figuring out what the DFL is all about. In 2017, we had huge fraud with the Somali population in the daycare industry. In 2020, that same group of people committed the largest fraud in the nation relating to feeding our future. The DFL blocked a Republican-backed bill to increase transparency in the attorney general’s office by making more information about business conducted by the attorney general available to the public. The attorney generals name is Keith Ellison, he's a Muslim & many figure he was intentionally asleep at the wheel when the feeding our future fraud was taking place.

Pretty good article explaining why, no matter what happens now, the last two disastrous weeks have screwed our economy for a long time to come:

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2025/04/trump-tariff-chaos-unfixable/682419/

Simply put nobody trusts our word anymore: New supply chains are going to be developed and the world will trade without us.

It's The Atlantic, but yeah, this is a valid concern.

Nobody in the world trusts Donald Trump is more accurate, but the rest is true: they will forge new deals without us. Also, they’re right not to trust him. If only the gullible supporters would have had one brain cell, anyone could have seen this coming.

Countdown to why “this is actually good” incoming.

You must really have smartz, given how often you disparage all Trump voters as idiots.

The Atlantic is bad enough without the DEI opinion writer from Vox who's only experience is working for liberal campaigns.

This is why Tim lives in his own reality. He gives credit to losers like her.

There are no greater group of parasites on the American system than the Somalis. Thanks Obama.

I remember those finger traps.  Good times.

Hopefully trump keeps caving on these tariffs.  He's very weak.

Licknut said this morning that the electronics exemption from Friday night is just temporary now and there will be a new round of tariffs for these products in another month or two.

Then says that he's confident that a deal will be made before that

They have no idea what they are doing.

Not really. I just don’t worship anyone, and call out BS stupidity when I see it. Especially when it’s dangerous to the country, which it is with Trump.

This economic nonsense is bad enough. Wait until this traitor tries to run for President again. The simps for Trump need to wake up.  This is America. We don’t do kings and dictators.

Having said all that, I can acknowledge not every Trump voter blindly supports him and generalize less often about that.

So, on the topic of BS stupidity, I presume you called out the people who defended and supported a brain-dead president for the better part of his term?  That's kinda dangerous, I'm sure a smart guy like you will agree.

Funny, I don't recall your posts on that subject though.  Or anything against the Left.  Or any posts period until Trump took over.  It's a conundrum wrapped in an enigma.  :dunno:

Maybe Biden was indeed brain dead. Maybe he wasn’t. It doesn’t matter at this point and in any event he was worth defending IMO because his policies and actions were good for the country, while Trump’s are not. If that makes me guilty of a double standard, so be it. I really don’t care about double standards.

None of this has anything to do with the issue at hand: we have a current President who has put up tariffs based on a wrong-headed and old fashioned view of where this country is heading. He has already done tremendous long lasting damage to the nation and every day he persists it’s going to get worse. At the same time he seeking authoritarian solutions on a whole bunch of other areas. Nearly everything he does is damaging. He needs to be prevented from doing more damage. The first way to do that is to convince reasonable conservatives like you that this not a game in which if liberals win then conservatives lose. I get that you have a large number of issues in which you disagree with liberalism and want to see it defeated. Put those aside, we can fight about them later. Right now we need to unite in fighting against this existential threat to all of our freedoms which is Donald Trump.

The term Existential Threat is interesting, especially when applied to Trump given there is an opposing party only narrowly out of power (just a handful of congress and senate seats away) and Courts which are constently checking his actions.  How he is a very threat to the contibnuance of democracy eludes me.  He was freely elected in the face of the opposing party attempting to jail him when he was out of power and to keep him off of the ballot.  His administration is in Court everyday where his powers, policies, and authority are called into evaluation by our system of checks and balances.  Democracy strikes me as remaining more or less robust.

If one truly believes him to be an existential threat to that which we hold dear ought one not take drastic action to prevent our demise?  Note- drastic action would amount to more than being a keyboard blowhard on a message board?

Of course the problem with your challenge is that there will be no way for me to prove that Trump is an existential threat unless and until it’s already too late to respond to. Therefore I would much rather nothing of the sort happens and you continue to think me an idiotic foolish boy crying wolf fearmonger. That would work better for both of us.

As for the second part of your post: nice try. Trump needs to be defeated, yes, but only through democratic, peaceful means. Any alternative would be as bad as the threat he represents. So despite your poor attempts at logic I will stick to being a keyboard blowhard (in your eyes.)

Few statement amuse me more than when you challenge my logic.

Inciudentally, I did not address you in my post, though it is fine with me if you took it as though I was,

I love the intensive modifier of "existential"  Progressive use it the same way young girls do on tic tok when they say :"literally".  They have no idea waht it means, but they believe it imparts gravitas to their statements.

I do agree that the haphazard, ill-thought out, and eradic manner in which this tariff rollout has been conducted is damaging to our world standing.  As is always the case with Trump even when I agree with his goals I disagree with his methods and I do not always agree with his goals, which is why some right leaning posters here consider me a leftist worthy of criticism while several left leaning posters consider me far right.  The nice thing is few consider me an ideologue.

Tim loves intensive modifiers.  "vast majority" is a favorite of his, such as "the vast majority of doctors support transing the kids."  He typically has no supporting data for such assertions.

Many people here consider ME an ideologue. Even more here consider me a dishonest fool.
Personally, if I ever achieved majority approval or affirmation of my views in this forum I would have to question myself deeply as there would clearly be something wrong with me.

Nobody is 100% accurate all of the time. But when I use the term “vast majority” I am pretty confident of my assertions. Still am, especially about the subject you just raised.

Of course you are confident, that's why you use them.  On the topic I just raised, I'm confident as well that you are wrong.  Political lobbying organizations are not the "vast majority" of anything.

Enough on this topic, back to your existential Trump threat.

Predictions mean nothing. Let us know when something bad actually happens. Stock Market has already been corrected, although it's still overpriced with or without any tariff changes.
