LIBERATION DAY: US economy now in reverse

No, that's an opinion based upon erroneous premises which apparently you agree with.

Yeah, I do think non-union low wage manufacturing jobs aren’t going to be highly coveted by your average American. Wacky idea I know.

Don't worry though: Trump will strike a deal soon and we can all move on from pretending the goal of his trade war is to bring back the jobs China “stole” from us.

no they will cut their profits to sell cars

a NEW car is ALWAYS a luxury and a STUPID purchase

that being said, I can afford it and don't worry about it, but if you don't have that luxury goto carmax

Companies will not cut profits to make things better for the consumer. There’s no way to get around cheaper labor outside the country without messing with it with things like tariffs that ultimately will hurt the product IMO.

But you don’t want the government to insert these artificial means into the private sector to “help”?

Nah, just smoke and mirrors so far.

1.) Most of these minerals are in Russian hands, and we won't see the benefits from this deal for many years.

2.) We've got a concept of a deal with the United Kingdom, one of the few trading partners that imports more from us than we do from them.

I'm sure your "rave reviews" are from your far-right nutjob podcasters with chins that have Trump's balls bouncing off them 24-7.

NO, No, & NO.  Make a go of it or don't.  No bailouts ever.

These tariffs are being applied in manner that does just that. Attempting to force businesses to change how they operate to meet a political goal.

If new car prices go up, so will used car prices.

But, even though tariffs or moving factories would increase costs, there could be less demand because people may not want to drop $30K+ if they fear they may lose their job in a time of uncertainty, so I’m not sure total prices will actually increase.   But of course if demand goes down then that could also lead to entire plants closing.

You do realize this is a far-leftist position, right? It's not an entitlement. It's a right. It's private property.

Yes people should be able to buy what they want, when they want, how they want it, so long as they can afford it, and even then they have the right. And all government has to do when it comes to the market, so long as safety is not affected, is stay out the way.

Earlier this week, Trump appeared testy when asked by reporters about his trade negotiations.

"Everyone says, 'When, when, when are you going to sign deals?'" he said. "I wish they'd ... stop asking."

I said truck drivers will be ok.  Not trucking overall.  Trucking, in general, is a very tough business.  Trucking companies fold all the time, but the drivers carry on fine.  There are lots of open truck driving jobs.

Thought i was clear i was referencing drivers earlier

Seems on point.

Yeah, it's not happening. She is right, it's exactly what Mike was saying, "it's not happening." It is like Covid. The same crazy one--man-show daily TV circuses, only this time with whackadoo cabinet secretaries.

So we make a "big deal" with a country with whom the trade deficit goes in the other direction, and it has been framed as a nothingburger gussied up as theater.

UK's tariff went from 1% to 0.8%. UK is 3% of US trade. And US has a trade surplus with the UK.

FAGAs won't look at the chart I posted showing that. They'll just cling to Trump theatrics.

They outsource engine manufacturing to Mexico. The Big 3 can build in the US or pay the price.

They are manufacturing according to the trade agreement that Trump negotiated 5 years ago.  Now Trump changes his deal.  Lil unfair huh?

The Alpha has caved again to the Chinese.  Posts that an 80% tariff is good, folding on his previous 145% tariff.

Doesn't matter though as 80% is still a de facto embargo.

The trade deal is subject to review. You didn’t know that? You seem to know everything about it.

So he’s not changing the deal.   Both sides agreed it could be reviewed, as part of the deal.
