Let’s say Zelensky refuses to agree to a deal because he knows Trump is negotiating in bad faith and the US cuts him off.

Any chance Europe would commit ground troops? They have more at stake here than the US.

Does China step in to try to broker a fairer deal?

I'm not concerned and neither is Trump. It's just good to know where European leaders stand on the matter of Ukraine.

Out of politeness he kept his mouth shut for the most part, disagreeing only when Trump argued that we should trust Putin. And he wasn’t rude or disrespectful about it.

During the meeting Zelensky called Putin a "murderer and terrorist", which Trump of course didn't acknowledge.  Afterwards Trump told reporters... "He doesn't have to stand there saying 'Putin this and Putin that' and all negative things..."  Meanwhile, every other western leader in the entire world calls out Putin for what he is.

I'm the last guy to buy into conspiracy theories (heck I believe Oswald acted alone)... but I'm slowly starting to believe the idea that Trump truly is a Russian asset. His friendship (and protection) with one of the worst dictators on the planet is so perplexing that it's becoming the only logical explanation.

Yeah I'm not sure how you walk away from watching the entire video without more respect for Trump.

At this point you have to be anti-American if you believe that somehow zielinski was innocent victim here. That ungrateful bastard has the gall to say what he said after we've given him like 200 billion f****** dollars or more. F*** him. He literally acted like we have given him nothing.

And we have far left posters in here cheering for the failure of America.

Ukraine was invaded by a country led by an evil man. Russia is completely responsible and has murdered thousands of innocent people. Of course I will continue to root for Ukraine and Zelensky. I firmly believe they are the good guys in this struggle.

I actually agree with you.  I think Zelensky made a mistake today though.  Some people like the prickly edge Trump has, others like you despise it.  But we should both acknowledge it exists.  Zelensky had to know that as well.  While it may or may not be a bad look for Trump and the U.S. depending on who you ask, it's not a make or break event for Trump or the U.S.  Zelensky has the future of his country in the balance.  He's not in a position to take on Trump in a combative way because he needs a security guarantee, which Trump is tacitly implying by a minerals deal.  He made a mistake today that was unforced.  Likely I think this gets fixed behind closed doors but someone is going to have to swallow their pride to make it happen.  Given what Ukraine has to lose and President Trump's personality, I think we both know who that is going to be.  That's just the reality regardless of the side of the political aisle.

Zelenskyy needs to clarify that he's OK with a ceasefire and that his overall goal is long term peace. He can get a clear security deal from European countries, not the United States, although letting the U.S. inside Ukraine to extract minerals gives us a clear objective to not allow any future Russian invasion.

You know there’s another mineral rights deal on the table for Ukraine, right? He knows Trump can’t be trusted and was right to walk from the deal.

Unless that alternate deal is with China, it's worthless.  I do know there are only two militaries in the world that would give Putin pause.  This has always been the best possible outcome for Ukraine.  They've done an amazing job to stall the Russians as long as they have.  But on manpower alone, they cannot prevail in a war of attrition against Russia.  It's simple math.  At some point, there has to be a deal.  If they fight to the last man, Ukraine will be ground down to nothing.

Trump has never been untrustworthy. Zelenskyy doesn't think that about Trump either. Zelenskyy didn't walk away from the deal, Trump told him to leave the White House. Zelenskyy focked up campaigning for more directly to the media and the American people while sitting next to Trump in the Oval Office. Zelenskyy came to the United States to make the deal.

The date of the Cato article is 2021. That’s prior to the invasion. I don’t think it’s relevant to the situation after the invasion.

So we can erase all of Putin’s authoritarian transgressions prior to the invasion as well?  Good Lord, your logic is so focking twisted.

This.

It's clear that Europe is lost with its open borders and move to the far left. The UK is actually jailing citizens for making posts on social media.

Unless they make a dramatic turnaround, they're lost. We might as well prepare for eur ope to go the way of North Korea and China.

At some point, the US is going to be alone as the only bastion of light and freedom in a world of far left darkness. South America, Mexico. They're all headed the same way.

Are you saying you expect Zelensky might be willing to put his fate in the military might and fortitude of the EU?  I give him more credit than that.  Honestly it would be nice if they had that backbone and power, and maybe we can help them get there, but for right now it's a fantasy.

Good.  As it should be.  Europe is completely capable of defending Ukraine if they want.  I don’t want any more of my tax dollars supporting that ungrateful, entitled, little prikk.

He can get a clear security deal from European countries

From the very start of the war, I've been surprised at Europe's approach of waiting to see what the US does in providing weapons and authorizing long-range use, before slowly doing the same.

Russia's GDP ranked 11th in the world (who knows after the oil/gas embargo), just above SOUTH KOREA and below BRAZIL.  How is it Germany (3rd), UK (6th), France (7th) and Italy (8th) can't mount a defense against Russia on their own? Not to mention Spain, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, etc. What is this lap-dog mentality among Europe? I get that none of them had spent nearly enough on defense, but collectively they could squash Russia like a bug.  Particularly now that Russia's army has been exposed, has nearly a million causalities and their economy is teetering on collapse.

You'd think Europe could easily take it upon themselves to help Ukraine kick Russian ass, with or without Trump.  No doubt it's nice to have the biggest military in the world backing ya up, but ... wouldn't think they really need the US at this point.

It's fascinating how hell bent Democrats are on protecting Ukraine. Did they forget what Ukraine really is?

This is NOT an allie, they're one of the most corrupt places on the planet and leaders in human/child trafficking.

Perhaps that's why the support Zelensky. @TrailGuy

Zelensky played chess, and Trump played checkers and fell right into his hands, with Zelensky knowing Trump would explode into an unhinged rant that would embarrass himself.

It's all so clear now. Zelensky wasn't going to kiss the ring, cave in to a Putin lover and sell out his country.

Trump got owned!

I generally agree with this. Though I don’t think Zelensky will apologize, they will ultimately get together IMO and work out some sort of deal.
