easilyscan 857 Posted March 15 Had to bury a loved one Thursday. Last time I bought a suit was in 2010, but because I could barely fit into that, decided to go the sports coat & dress shirt route. Went to a local establishment and was asked if I wanted coffee or a beer ? Should have walked out right then. Tried on 4 different sport jackets before deciding on a Enzo Tovare $595 less 20% discount = $476.00 Also tried on 4 different dress shirts before deciding on a Emanuel Berg: At this time I told him to wrap it up. He took the jacket to another area to remove the tags. That's when I noticed the price tag. I'll stop here & say that the jacket was attractive & high-quality, so I had no problem with the price of $476 Now let's see some guesses as to how much the dress shirt cost. Hardcore troubadour 14,915 Posted March 15 I don’t know. I’m a wedding and funeral/ job interview suit wearer myself. All I know is about 10 years ago I bought 2 Joseph Abboud dress shirts. I remember they were expensive but I don’t regret it. They have held up very well.
MDC 7,120 Posted March 15 I don’t know. I’ll wear Club Room or Van Heussen from Macys and they typically run under $50.
lickin_starfish 1,889 Posted March 15 I'm guessing that the shirt was $70. I would be willing to pay up to $30 for a dress shirt.
jerryskids 6,553 Posted March 15 I don't recognize the brand but based on your post I'd guess at least $150. I recently bought this shirt for a few scheduled weddings and other future dressy events: https://www.paulfredrick.com/products/comfort-stretch-non-iron-solid-dress-shirt-with-contrast-trim-dmu03b-white-black?_fid=7c2f24b47&_pos=8&_ss=c&variant=46129371873450 I love Paul Frederick stuff. Since my laryngectomy I can't wear a tie, and I feel like the black trim and buttons give the effect of a tux shirt and open bow tie, without the tie. Nice material with a tight weave, wrinkle free. Prior to this, I had one white dress shirt that was paper thin, and another white tux shirt that felt like sandpaper. I'm not sure why I owned them, as I usually will pay more for nicer things that should last a long time.
easilyscan 857 Posted March 16 $298.00 When he got back I said “please tell me that isn't the right price for this shirt” he said it was the correct price and asked if I wanted to try something different. It's on me because I should've insisted on something cheaper, but it had been a really busy/crappy week & I wanted nothing more than to get home & have a couple drinks. Lesson learned. https://bestmastertailor.com/products/emanuel-berg-blue-stripe-luxury-poplin-dress-shirt?variant=46242636071134&country=US&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2020-01-04&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADrmbvToYAzfpCyTbC2gB14oln1pQ
KSB2424 3,148 Posted March 16 There is no telling as there is a wide range. From a department store to a boutique menswear establishment. If you ONLY wear a suit to weddings and funerals.....I'd go department store route. Just make sure you get it dry cleaned properly first to get the department store look (creases) out. If you think you wont gain or lose to much weight, will wear it more than a couple times a year, I'd recommend going and getting properly fitted and spending more. Also, while I'm sure that's a nice dress shirt in your link, unless you are a multi-millionaire you can find comparable for half that.
BunnysBastatrds 2,308 Posted March 16 My ex-wife worked at Saks 5th Ave. She would get double discounts three times a year. She would get me three hundred dollar shifts for a hundred Dolores.she got me tucked in shirts for when I wore suits, and shirts that you don’t tuck. We got incredibly great deals. And the sunglasses that were three hundred, she’d get them for a hundred. I buy my suits at Jos A Banks along with my ties.

jonmx 2,424 Posted March 16 Brooks Brothere makes great dress shirts in the $60-$200 range. Used to have an outlet I would pick them up for $35-40, but that is gone.
