El Salvador went from one of the most dangerous places on earth to a much safer country. Saints could care less about the people. Only the prisoners.

BREAKING:

A federal judge says the Trump admin deported a two-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras with "no meaningful process" — even as the child's father was frantically petitioning the courts to keep her in the country.

This is strange to me. Conservatives argued - rightly - that the child's needs and right to live in freedom and democracy predominated. They were right.

I disagree. The kid was brought here, illegally, by his mother. Unfortunately, she died on the way but they shouldn't have been allowed to stay here even if she hadn't.

After she died, his father was the only parent he had left and Elian was rightfully returned to him.

The only issue I had at the time was using a SWAT team to raid the house and remove him. It didn't have to go down that way but his father deserved to have custody of his child.

That SWAT raid to get Elian Gonzalez provided us with one of the dumbest, most absurd pictures we've ever seen published.

A refresher for those that were living under a rock at the time: https://imgs.search.brave.com/49hpb2OXPM2lcPqM_O6rkzraToNKQlyEAMmnQJAve88/rs:fit:860:0:0:0/g:ce/aHR0cHM6Ly9zLmFi/Y25ld3MuY29tL2lt/YWdlcy9JbnRlcm5h/dGlvbmFsL0FQX2Vs/aWFuX2dvbnphbGVz/X3JhaWRfMDFfamVm/XzE1MDQyMV8xNng5/Xzk5Mi5qcGc_dz05/OTI

Why they went this route rather than choose to send a smiling little old 98 pound social worker lady who speaks Spanish to do this, I have no idea.

How Elián Gonzalez, once deported from Florida, became Cuba’s newest politician

IMO we sent the kid back to be a communist drone & propaganda tool. He had a chance at freedom in America - where btw he had family. His mother died trying to get him here.

Looks to me like this country got rid of communist who's mother tried to plant him here. Screw that. She deserved what she got and now "he gone".

We were the bulwark against communism, & we tore it down for the most part by doing the opposite. GBA.

My point is that, for all of squishy's pearl clutching and hand wringing over Trump sending kids back home, I'm sure he had no issue when his hero Bill Clinton did it.

I was extremely upset when Elian Gonzalez, whose mom gave up her life trying to escape slavery, was forcibly sent back to it. What the Clinton administration did enrages me to this day. Unforgivable. So is what the Trump people are doing now. We are not behaving as our founders intended.

You were in your early/ mid twenties. I doubt you were “extremely “ upset. What did you being “extremely “ upset manifest itself in?

Thanks. No doubt I argued with him about it myself at one point or another. But IMO it’s just another of a score of examples of how maga isn’t really conservative or traditionally Republican. Because that used to mean defending American as a beacon for liberty for the rest of the world.

I was 34.

My views were the same then as they are now. I sympathize with all immigrants to this country, especially refugees, because that’s how my own father came here as a Holocaust survivor. Members of my family were turned away and put to death by the Nazis, others by the Communists.

Elian Gonzalez lived in a slave Communist state ruled by a thug, the murderer Fidel Castro, His mother escaped with him fleeing north much as our own slaves did before the Civil War. She drowned along the way. Elian’s dad was used by the slave dictatorship as a pawn to demand his return and we gave into that. We actually used force to wrest this kid away from his family and sent him back to that hellhole. Man did that piss me off; still does.

What were your thoughts on Obama having friendly relations with the murderous Castro regime?

That I’m OK with. We need to have friendly relations, and free trade, with everyone. That’s the best way to liberate these countries from their dictatorships. I have no problem with being friendly with Cuba, or Iran, China or North Korea. Personally I could never shake the hand of a murderer but I’m not a politician and glad that Im not.

But we should never turn our back on refugees from these countries.

Lots of kids live in Cuba. I think their parents are entitled to raise them. Call me nuts.

No you couldn't have argued with me, as I didn't join the FFA until 2003 (3-4 years after the Elian matter was in the news)

I honestly can't remember what I was saying at the time. I believe I felt that his "family" here was exploiting him for their own gain and returning him to his father seemed the right thing to do.

In any event, I don't feel the Elian Gonzalez situation (which was a one-off outlier) is analogous to Trump deporting a 2 year old and breaking up families.

Dude our founding fathers would think wtf if they saw what you people have done to the country. The founding fathers wouldn’t have liked you at all.

Cuba under Fidel didn’t allow parents to raise their kids. As with all Communist countries the children were raised mostly by the state and indoctrinated with ideology.
