That's brutal, the dude'll live the rest of his life knowing his kid died due to his own negligence. But hey, at least he has $75 as consolation.

Todays society is so weird.  Kids died in pools when I was a kid too due to parents getting distracted but no one called for them to be arrested.  it did result in laws requiring fences around pools to prevent cases like this though.

Exactly. Accidents happen, that's why they're called accidents. @TimHauck isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed.

If the dad was actually outside, I’d be OK with no charges.  But being inside watching and betting on basketball while your 3 year old is outside with a pool that doesn’t have a fence, is more than just being distracted.

You're actually opining of the days where parents were allowed to neglect their kids without consequence?

I don't consider it neglect.  That's the problem with you libs.  You want to micromanage everyone else's life.  I guaranfockingtee you there was a 9 minute time frame where you weren't watching your 3 year old kid and something bad COULD HAVE HAPPENED.  Thank God it didnt but in this case it did.  I'm not making excuses for the dad but he's gonna have to live with this for the rest of his life.  That's punishment enough.

Not when there was a pool easily accessible and they didn’t know how to swim.  HTH

My kids all grew up with a pool. It has a fence. They were never allowed within the pool area unsupervised until they passed their green band test.  It's called being a responsible parent.  We as a society should want more responsible parents.

Excusing irresponsible behavior does not make society better.

Having a pool is a huge responsibility, not just for your kids but for any kid visiting.  Too many sh1t bag parents got pools the last 5 years that don't take the responsibility seriously.

Would never hold up. He thought the kid was in the other room. That's an accident, not negligible.

You defend rapists and criminals of color but want to lock this man up?

I do think it’s a potential example of white privilege.

”MAGA” was a joke about Strike reminiscing about a time when negligence wasn’t punished.

Drownings are a big deal here in Phoenix, since so many houses/apartment complexes have pools, so it's always front of mind.  I would never leave a young kid unsupervised for a second, but perhaps in other areas, some people might not realize the danger?

I'm not excusing the behavior, just wondering how people can let something like that happen.  :(

There was a story awhile back about a father that fell asleep and his kids started playing in his truck and locked themselves inside.  At first they were saying he left them in there, but some neighbor's ring camera caught the kids crawling through the back window from the truck bed.  No charges.

Can't police everything.

Did it? I didn't read the link. No, I hadn't heard about it.  Unfortunately, as i stated, we have a lot of drownings.
